The street is a major driver of domestic tourism in Erbil, the capital of the Region, drawing visitors from across Iraq and foreign residents eager to experience its festive charm. It offers a variety of activities, from food stalls serving traditional dishes like kebabs, shawarma, falafel, and popular sweets such as zalabiya, baklava, and shakarlama, making it a favorite hangout spot for young people.
Local business owners say the holiday season brings a surge in sales, providing a vital boost to the local economy through seasonal job opportunities and small-scale investments. 'Eid means sweets, and this year, demand has been even higher than in previous years,' said Aram, a confectionery shop owner.
Hassan, a visitor from Baghdad, described Iskan Street as a social hub that brings people together. 'We come here every night during Eid. The atmosphere is amazing—it's full of joy,' he told Shafaq News.
On Thursday, the Spokesperson for the Kurdistan Regional Tourism Board, revealed to Shafaq News that the Region's tourism sector has expanded significantly, attracting more than $7.5 billion in investments over five years.

Shafaq News/ On Sunday, gold prices fell in Baghdad while inching up in Erbil. According to a Shafaq News survey, prices in Baghdad's wholesale markets on Al-Nahr Street registered a selling price for a 21-carat per mithqal (equivalent to 4.25 grams) of Gulf, Turkish, and European gold of 653,000 IQD, and a buying price of 649,000 IQD—down from 658,000 IQD recorded Saturday. Iraqi 21-carat gold was selling for 623,000 IQD per mithqal and buying for 619,000 IQD. In local jewelry shops, the price of a 21-carat mithqal of Gulf gold ranged between 655,000 and 666,000 IQD, while the price of Iraqi gold ranged from 625,000 to 635,000 IQD.

US dollar sheds value in Baghdad, Erbil
Shafaq News/ On Sunday, the US dollar exchange rate fell against the Iraqi dinar in Baghdad and Erbil. According to a Shafaq News survey, Al-Kifah and Al-Harithiyah central exchanges registered a rate of 141,000 IQD for $100, down from 141,550 IQD on Saturday. In local currency exchange shops in Baghdad, the selling rate fell to 142,000 IQD per $100, while the buying rate was 140,000 IQD. In Erbil, the selling rate stood at 141,000 IQD and the buying rate at 140,850 IQD.

Iraq 5th among top Turkish export markets in early 2025
Shafaq News/ Iraq emerged as the fifth-largest importer of Turkish products in the first third of 2025, according to data released Saturday by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT). Turkiye's exports between January and March reached $86.1B, marking a 3.7% increase compared to the same period last year. Imports also rose by 6.6%, totaling $120.7B. Germany retained its position as Turkiye's top export market, receiving $7.1B in goods. The UK followed with $5.38B, the US with $5.13B, Italy with $4.35B, and Iraq with $3.76B. Iraq remains heavily reliant on imports from neighboring countries—particularly Turkiye and Iran—with additional goods sourced from Gulf states and Jordan in smaller volumes.
