Tamil Nadu government opens help desk for the Tamils stranded in Jammu and Kashmir
In view of the rising tensions and hostilities in Jammu and Kashmir after Operation Sindoor was launched, the Tamil Nadu government has opened a help desk in the Tamil Nadu House in New Delhi to offer the Tamils information, help, and rescue. This is in line with the instructions of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin.
Meanwhile, 52 Tamil Nadu students, studying at educational institutions in Jammu and Kashmir, and four others on a trip to the region have requested the government for help in returning home. Minister S.M. Nasar and Non-Resident Tamils Welfare Board chairperson Karthikeya Sivasenapathy have spoken to these students on the phone.
As the flight services have been cancelled and it is considered unsafe to travel by road in Jammu and Kashmir, 'a majority of the students have felt that they will return to Tamil Nadu once the flight services resume,' the government said a release.
'The government has been continuously monitoring the situation. Once the situation became safe, the students would be brought to Tamil Nadu,' it said. Another four students, who were on an educational tour to Jammu and Kashmir, would reach Delhi by road on Friday evening, and they would be brought to Tamil Nadu in the early hours of Saturday, the release said.

The Non-Resident Tamils Welfare Board was coordinating with the institutional authorities and local officials to ensure prompt action, he said. 'We have spoken to the Director and Assistant Director of NIFT, Srinagar, and to Thiru Aftab, IAS, a native of Kashmir and official of the Tamil Nadu cadre now overseeing development efforts in the region. He has assured us that once the situation stabilises, students will be brought back safely and at the earliest,' he said.

Business of politics after busyness of war
After the immensely successful and strategically path-breaking 'Operation Sindoor,' it is back to business as usual in India that is Bharat. By business, I mean politics. Because politics isn't just about gaining and retaining power, whether at the Centre or the states, it is also India's biggest business. Of course, going back to its original meaning, by 'business', I also mean whatever keeps us busy. Nothing preoccupies the nation, as we know only too well, as much as politics. It is so ubiquitous and pervasive that it obsessively involves us in almost all aspects of our lives—from the family to the nation. That is why I rate it higher than Bollywood, cricket or, for that matter, even religion, as both our national passion and pastime. Not to speak of our topmost source of information and entertainment. And given the wartime—or now post-war but still hostile—environment, the distinction between information and entertainment could not be more blurred. 'Operation Sindoor' was a series of strikes so precise, so restrained, yet so audacious that the world paused to take notice, albeit grudgingly. The whole country, on the other hand, was agog as the Indian armed forces, with their deadly resolve and impeccable aim, delivered a resounding slap to the face of 'rogue nation' Pakistan. The result? Mission accomplished. A masterclass in military might. However, throughout the conflict, we were also embroiled in a deafening, at times sickening, misinformation battle. Not only with our enemy but with ourselves. With political parties jockeying to position themselves as adversarial beneficiaries. Did we forget that we were at war with Pakistan, not with each other? The result? A masterclass in political theatrics, starring none other than Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the main, if not sole and singular, protagonist of this blockbuster. And why not? The nation is no longer at war. Therefore, we must revert to our favourite melodrama, national politics.

If elected, NDA government will turn Tamil Nadu into another Manipur: R.S. Bharathi
Reacting to Union Home Minister Amit Shah's comments on Sunday that the NDA will come to power in Tamil Nadu in 2026, the DMK organisation secretary, R.S. Bharathi, said if that happened, they (BJP) will turn the State into another Manipur (which has witnessed ethnic violence). In a statement, Mr. Bharathi said Mr Shah has been stating the same thing whenever he comes to Tamil Nadu for a visit. 'Mr Shah's love for Tamil and Tamils is akin to lion wearing a cow's skin. He has said the BJP (and AIADMK alliance) will come to power in Tamil Nadu like they did in Odisha, Haryana, Maharashtra and Delhi. How can Tamils forget the Odisha state assembly elections?' he asked. He recalled that Mr Amit Shah had in May last year said: 'How can a Tamil (an IAS officer named Pandian was a close aide of former CM Naveen Patnaik) be allowed to rule Odisha?'. 'Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said the keys to the treasury of Puri Jagannath temple was in Tamil Nadu and portrayed Tamils like they are thieves. Now, Mr Shah talks about Tamils and Tamil Nadu in Madurai. BJP even released a campaign video where they lampooned a man wearing a shirt and a dhoti and serving old food on a banana leaf,' he said. According to Mr. Bharathi, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has entered every home through the welfare schemes of the Tamil Nadu government. 'This is not the first time that Mr Shah has said that BJP-AIADMK alliance will win. He said the same thing during 2021 Assembly elections. He said the BJP will win more seats in 2019 and 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Nothing happened. NDA has only faced defeats in Tamil Nadu,' the DMK leader said.
