A 10-year-old boy who had both legs amputated after being abused as a baby has been gifted a signed football shirt by David Beckham.Tony Hudgell was given an Inter Miami shirt from Beckham, who co-owns the US club, with Tony's mother Paula saying the England legend had been "quietly following his journey".Mrs Hudgell, from West Malling in Kent, said the gesture was "really lovely" and Tony was "absolutely blown away" having received the shirt. She added: "There was a little card as well which said 'keep doing what you are doing'".
Mrs Hudgell said Tony was "absolutely over the moon" and described Beckham as "such a lovely guy and really generous".The Tony Hudgell Foundation said on X the gift had come after a "tough week" where the parole board confirmed Tony's birth mother Jody Simpson would be released from prison.
Simpson was given a 10 year prison sentence in 2018 alongside Anthony Smith having been found guilty of causing Tony's near-fatal injuries. The pair were found to have hurt him so badly at six-weeks-old that his legs had to be amputated.Tony was later adopted by Paula and Mark Hudgell and has since raised millions of pounds for charity and received the British Empire Medal for services to the prevention of child abuse. In 2024, he underwent surgery to be fitted for new prosthetics to allow him to walk without crutches.Beckham, who is also a co-owner of Salford City, is set to be knighted in King Charles' birthday honours.

Cristiano Ronaldo's Club World Cup refusal still a victory for Gianni Infantino

Ignore the fact players are openly admitting they do not want to be there. Take no notice of Premier League managers saying they will not even watch on TV. Or that ticket prices have been cut by 85 percent because thousands of seats remain unsold. Gianni Infantino, forever modest, is promising that the FIFA Club World Cup will be football's PINNACLE thanks to the shiny golden trophy featuring his own signature and eye-watering $1bn prize pot. Or at least that is what you might think if you have been absorbing his propaganda on YouTube. Infantino has long proven himself more contentman than footballman with no tradition or structure safe from the claws of financial growth. So the sight of FIFA's president stirring the pot by claiming Cristiano Ronaldo could still sign for one of the 32 clubs participating in this yawning mess when appearing on shock jock iShowSpeed's channel will have come as no surprise. 'There are discussions,' Infantino said in a bizarre livestream from his bedroom. 'There are discussions with some clubs, so if any club is watching and is interested in hiring Ronaldo for the Club World Cup... who knows, who knows." Except anyone who did know knew that speculative attention-seekers suggesting he could team up with great foe Lionel Messi at Inter Miami was far-flung nonsense. There were 'talks, contacts,' Ronaldo said, but he will not be in the US with the 40-yearr-old confirming he is set to remain at Al Nassr, the Saudi side paying him handsomely, for another season. "You have to think about short, medium and long term," he said. Which might initially come across as a major blow to Infantino's aspirations for this competition. How can it be the pinnacle if one of the two players to have defined football so far this millennium is not involved? Except really this media circus, a story with little substance, can easily be flipped into a success for Infantino for the simple reason that it has brought more attention to the Club World Cup. Heck, this piece itself is contributing for a caricature who seems to win even when he loses. Because rather than the potential of lop-sided games or, worse, disinterested UEFA teams, you can guarantee FIFA's breathless PR when this expensive, unloved roadshow ends in New Jersey next month will focus on other flimsy metrics that have little relation to actual football. Who needs top quality play from motivated players in a competition full of meaning and history when there are online impressions to quantify, brand deals to shout about and increasingly peculiar appearances with influencers to cultivate. The FIFA Club World Cup will see 32 of the world's best club teams including Man City, Chelsea, Real Madrid, PSG and Bayern Munich play across 63 games from June 14-July 13. Tube pervert, 30, who targeted lone women to sexually assault them on the Underground is jailed for just 27 weeks

A man who sexually assaulted three women on various train services across the capital, including the London Underground, has been jailed for just 27 weeks. Ahmad Ahmedzai, 30, of Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, reportedly targeted lone women on trains in London on three separate occasions last year. British Transport Police (BTP) said Ahmedzai was on a train from Bushey to London Euston when he sexually assaulted a 28-year-old woman multiple times on September 10. The train was very busy so the victim was unable to move away from the man, the force added. Ahmedzai was then on a Jubilee line train on November 2 from Bermondsey when he sexually assaulted another 28-year-old woman on a busy train service. The man then sexually assaulted a 22-year-old woman on November 25 while on a very busy train from Watford Junction to London Euston. The three victims reported the assaults to BTP and provided descriptions of Ahmedzai. Oficers were then able to obtain CCTV and the man was identified through facial recognition. The individual was sentenced on Friday, May 30 at Inner London Crown Court to 27 weeks in prison following a BTP investigation. He pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual assault. He was also handed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) for seven years, which could result in further custodial time if he breaches it. He will remain on the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years and pay costs of £687. The SHPO means Ahmedzai can only travel on the Transport for London (TfL) network when using an oyster card, a contactless debit or credit card linked to an account in his name. When travelling outside the TfL network he has to book any ticket in advance and notify the police in advance of travel. Investigating officer Detective Constable Jack Leach said: 'Ahmedzai is a dangerous predator who targeted women on busy services in order to hide his sick antics, but due to the brave actions of those he targeted, by reporting the crimes to us we were able to catch him. 'There is zero-tolerance for sexual offences on the rail network and we will do everything in our power to bring offenders to justice.' He added: 'If you are the victim of a crime on the rail network, you can report by texting 61016 discreetly or calling 0800 405040. Always call 999 in an emergency.'

England vs West Indies: Score and latest updates from third T20

6:51PM OVER 4: ENG 51/0 (Smith 28 Duckett 23) Smith retreats to leg, clears the front leg and thumps a lofted drive off Shepherd over cover for four. He goes for it again but doesn't connect properly and pops it over cover for two off the toe. He has been moving horizontally across his crease but now Smith moves vertically as well, dropping back and over to off to mow Shepherd over midwicket for six and ends the over by picking the slower ball and lofting it straight back on the drive for four. 6:47PM OVER 3: ENG 33/0 (Smith 11 Duckett 22) West Indies post a point sweeper and a deep backward square to stop Duckett's orthodox and reverse sweep so he simply clumps a slog sweep over midwicket for four. He comes down the track to Hosein's next delivery and spoons it back over the bowler's head without middling it. Nonetheless it clears the retreating mid-on and they run two. The left-hander leans across to fetch one Hosein tries to hide outside off-stump and clears the sweeper at backward square for a steepling six then hammers a straight drive on the charge for four more. By trying to stifle his reverse-sweep, they opened up midwicket and he punished them. The challenge here is very different to diddy Bristol. The playing area is vast, possibly the largest of England's home venues. At various others, that plink down the ground from Duckett would have gone for six. I suspect that a big score will be achieved by a steady cruising speed throughout the innings rather than a big, six-fuelled acceleration like the West Indies had the other night. Anyway, very good start from Duckett and England. 6:40PM OVER 2: ENG 16/0 (Smith 10 Duckett 6) Jason Holder opens the bowling from the Pavilion End. Smith drives crisply through the covers for two and the opens the face to smear a single through point. Duckett flicks Holder behind square for a single though the initial call was for two. The ball rifled across the grass too quickly for that to be feasible. Smith chances his arm with an expansive shot, driving on the up over mid-on for four but then splices his pull over midwicket for a single when the bat speed and intent suggested a boundary all the way. 6:35PM OVER 1: ENG 7/0 (Smith 2 Duckett 5) The slow left-armer starts round the wicket to Smith who uses the curve to drive through mid-on for a single. A wee breeze gives the spinner some drift in to the right-hander, and away from Duckett who works a single away between mid-on and midwicket. Smith shuffles back in his crease to clip the arm-ball through mid-on for another before Duckett ends the over with a clumping reverse-sweep, picking the ball off off-stump square for four. Good evening from the Utilita Bowl. Warm evening here. It's been a sorry trip for the West Indies – the women were whitewashed, and now the men might be too. On another note, I wondered if England might rest Brydon Carse, given his importance to the Test team in 10 days' time. But he's a key ally of Brook and a big part of this team. 6:30PM The teams are out And Akeal Hosein, the left-arm spinner, has the new ball. 6:29PM Longest boundaries in the series Aaron Finch is the only player to make a hundred in a T20I at Southampton, 156 vs England in 2013. In that match Joe Root made an unbeaten 90, the next highest score in the 12 T20Is played at the Rose Bowl. 6:08PM Harry Brook speaks 'We want to start nailing teams down into the ground. Come out and play the same way, try to have a dominant finish to the series.' He goes on to say they are unchanged because he wants the players to get used to the feeling of winning. 'People say winning is a habit. That's something we have to get going towards that World Cup in February next year. We want to keep on motoring the way we have done.' 6:06PM Team news England are unchanged. West Indies bring in Shimron Hetmyer for Roston Chase. England Smith, Duckett, Buttler (wk), Brook (capt), Banton, Bethell, Jacks, Dawson, Carse, Rashid, Wood. West Indies Lewis, Charles, Hetmyer, Hope (capt/wk), Rutherford, Powell, Shepherd, Holder, Motie, A Joseph, Hosein. 6:03PM West Indies win the toss And have put England in to bat. Shai Hope: 'We're going to back ourselves chasing here.' Harry Brook says he would have bowled first, too 'but what will be will be'.
