TUPELO – A Lee County man has been jailed on a $10 million bond after being accused of killing a Shannon area couple Friday.
Lee County deputy sheriffs responded to a 911 call regarding a possible incident at a residence on County Road 295 in the Shannon area around 3:30 p.m. on Friday May 23. After contacting the property owner and the resident of the address, deputies conducted a search and discovered the bodies of two individuals.
The resident was taken into custody without incident.
The Lee County Coroner Carolyn Green identified the victims as Frank West, 43, and Cambre Dean, 39, both of the Shannon area. They both died of gunshot wounds.
Their bodies will be transported to Pearl for autopsy at the State Medical Examiner's Office. The deaths are being treated as a double homicide.
Jonathan A. Kelly, 39, of Shannon, was interviewed as a person of interest in the suspected homicides. Based on the evidence gathered and the outcome of the interview, Kelly has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
During his initial appearance in Lee County Justice Court, a judge set Kelly's bond at $10,000,000. He remains incarcerated in the Lee County Adult Jail.
Lee Country Sheriff Jim Johnson said the assistance of the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks was key in locating crucial evidence that has been instrumental to this case.

Live updates: Trump to welcome German chancellor amid controversies over travel ban, tariffs

President Donald Trump plans to welcome German Chancellor Friedrich Merz to the White House on Thursday for a meeting that is certain to touch upon Trump's tariffs policy, which has a major impact on German exports. It is the first of a blitz of scheduled encounters in coming weeks with leaders of Washington's historic allies. On Wednesday, Trump issued a proclamation restricting the entry of travelers to the United States from more than a dozen countries, resurrecting and expanding sweeping restrictions from his first term that are expected to draw swift legal challenges. Later Thursday, Trump has a meeting scheduled with police officers. David Jolly, a former Republican congressman from Florida, announced Thursday that's he running for governor of the state as a Democrat. Jolly, 52, represented the St. Petersburg-area 13th Congressional District from 2014 to 2017 and was considered to be a GOP moderate. He became a prominent critic of Donald Trump during Trump's first term in the White House and later changed his party registration. President Donald Trump on Wednesday ordered a broad investigation into whether Joe Biden covered up a cognitive decline while in the White House and was incapable of executing presidential decisions — an unprecedented request that in theory could undermine thousands of Biden's executive actions and pardons. President Donald Trump on Wednesday restricted the entry of travelers to the United States from more than a dozen countries, resurrecting and expanding sweeping restrictions from his first term that are expected to draw swift legal challenges. President Donald Trump on Wednesday evening sought to restrict international students and scholars from entering the country to attend, conduct research or teach at Harvard University, further escalating the administration's strong-armed attempts to force change in higher education.
