Auburn's Johni Broome named to Wooden All-American team Now that Broome is a Wooden All-American, he is one step closer to grabbing college basketball's top honor.
Auburn star Johni Broome has added another accolade to his shelf, bringing him one step closer to winning college basketball's highest individual honor.
The John R. Wooden Award revealed its All-American team on Wednesday, which included Broome. Because of his All-America honor, Broome is now in a prime position to win the John R. Wooden Award, which is given to college basketball's best player at season's end. He is a top-five finalist to win the award alongside Alabama's Mark Sears, Florida's Walter Clayton Jr., Duke's Cooper Flagg, and Purdue's Braden Smith.
Broome is having his best season as an Auburn Tiger by averaging 18.7 points, 10.9 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game for the Tigers. He also played a major role in Auburn winning the SEC regular season championship and the top overall seed in the NCAA Tournament. His 21 double-doubles rank No. 5 nationally, and he has 19 games of 20-or-more points, including his last two NCAA Tournament games.
According to Auburn athletics, Broome is the third Auburn Tiger to earn a spot on the Wooden All-American team, joining Jabari Smith in 2022 and Chris Porter in 1999. Broome will be honored during the John R. Wooden Awards Show on Friday, April 11, at the Los Angeles Athletic Club. The event will be streamed by ESPN+.

GALLOWAY, N.J. -- Elizabeth Szokol birdied the first five holes and shot an 8-under 62 on Friday for a share of the first-round lead with Ilhee Lee in the ShopRite LPGA Classic. Playing in the afternoon on Seaview's Bay Course, Szokol followed her opening birdie run with a bogey on No. 6, then added birdies on Nos. 8, 9, 13 and 16. 'Happy to get off to a great start and really looking forward to the weekend,' Szokol said. 'Lots of golf left. Really excited to see good golf and hard work paying off today.' The 30-year-old American teamed with Cheyenne Knight to win the 2023 Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational for her only tour victory. AJ Singer's 10th-inning single gives Oregon State 5-4 win over FSU after trailing by 3 in the ninth
CORVALLIS, Ore. -- AJ Singer's 10th-inning single lifted Oregon State to a come-from-behind 5-4 victory over Florida State on Friday in the opening game of the Corvallis Super Regional. The Beavers (46-13-1) were down to their last strike in the ninth inning before Jacob Krieg's two-run single tied it up at 4-4, capping a three-run rally. Earlier, Wilson Weber doubled leading off the ninth and later scored on a wild pitch. In the bottom of the 10th, Aiva Arquette led off with a double and took third on a single by Gavin Turley. After an intentional walk loaded the bases, still with nobody out, Arquette was forced out at home by the catcher for the first out. Singer then drove the first pitch into center field and Turley scored the winning run. Myles Bailey's go-ahead solo home run in the sixth cleared the bleachers and left the ballpark, giving the Seminoles a 2-1 lead. Florida State (41-15) added a run on a single by Max Williams in the seventh and another on Brody DeLamielleure's two-out single in the eighth for a 4-1 lead. Oregon State starter Dax Whitney struck out 10 in 4 2/3 innings but left after throwing 97 pitches and allowing one run. He has 22 strikeouts over two NCAA Tournament starts.
