Your Tarot Reading for the Week of May 19

Your Tarot Reading for the Week of May 19

Cosmopolitan19-05-2025

You don't need to know the difference between a three-card and a Celtic cross spread, to get the most out of a tarot card reading. All you need: your Sun sign! Here's what I do: Shuffle my tarot deck and pull out the cards in order from Aries to Pisces plus one general card for everyone so that you can get specific advice around your personality. Let's go!
Gemini season comes prancing, dancing, and romancing into view this week which is cause for celebration. At the same time, however, because nothing with Gemini is ever one-sided or straightforward, the Eight of Swords asks you to take a long, hard look at yourself. Think about projection. Think about duality and hypocrisy and the things you dislike or criticize in others, which may actually be a reflection of something you suppress or hide in your own true nature. Look in the mirror. Do the work. Come to a new understanding. And then, like a Gemini, put on a happy mask and dance off the frolic and play. Move from the shade to the sunlight.
Have it all, do it all, get it all. Abundance is your theme tune this week, Aries, because the Two of Pentacles is bringing plenty of new opportunity your way and advises you to say "yes" to everything. The more you do, the more you will find you can do. The higher you aim, the better the outcome will be. Think big, act bold, talk bravely. Bite off a bit more than you can chew—you'll get it down no problem.
The Queen of Cups wants you to focus on self-care and your own emotional well-being. This doesn't mean it's open season on pure pampering and relaxing, because self care is also about building up your strength and self-esteem and that is best achieved by overcoming challenges and proving your resilience or courage to yourself. Creating belief that you can do stuff. And then comes the rest, reward, and congratulations. So, make the first half of the week all about getting something difficult done. And then you can rest and treat yourself.
Your season is your best time of the year because it's your birthday and you love a celebration, a social event, and a chance to turn the page to a new age and write a new story. See this week as the prequel to your new age. How would you round off and narrate the story of the year that just passed? What have you learned? What do you wish to do next? The Ace of Wands invites you to invent a new activity, goal, ritual, or purpose that feels like the ideal way to kickstart the year ahead. Travel, education, creativity, career, or self development. What inspires you?
All Cancerians are enamored with their love life and romantic opportunity. Good news this week then as the loving Two of Cups comes into town. This is like Cupid being by your side all week long, firing his potently tipped love arrows wherever you ask him to. True romance, instant chemistry, deepening commitments and bonds, powerful intimacy, and natural alliances are all in play this week so focus on your closest or most desired relationships and invest your time and energy in shaping them up to be what you wish for. All is possible.
Work hard, be shrewd, and practice diligence and determination and you will reap the right rewards. Don't even consider quitting, lapsing, or taking short cuts this week. It's time to graft. The Knight of Pentacles will bring you all of the resilience, fortitude, energy, and imagination you need to get the job done, and get it done faster and easier than you thought. Go for it with great gusto. Once you've hit the finish line, you will start seeing the rewards you've longed for. The Universe will be pleased with your efforts.
The Magician is linked to Mercury, your ruling planet, so it's a very special card for you and reflects some of your best qualities: intelligence, commercial smarts, passion for travel and exploration, creativity. It's also an invitation to activate something that links to one of these strengths, like a trip, a course, a career shift, a new business, or a creative project. It'll be something that you think about, plan for, begin this June and bring to fruition by your own birthday in late summer. What will it be? Let your imagination roam free this week. Follow your interests.
Ready for a change, Libra? The Wheel of Fortune is the tarot's totem of transformation and means that change is going to sweep through your realm this week, in all kinds of ways. The best way to work with this card, for the best outcome, is to make a change yourself. Start the ball rolling. Initiate the action in an area you want to be different. Be brave. Whatever you begin will create a momentum, a chain reaction of events, and this can mount up to produce a wonderful turn of events that, right here right now, you don't see coming!
People shouldn't underestimate your ability to play the long game. Many folks just think of you as being vengeance-thirsty and taking your time to exact revenge on those who wronged you, but you can use that famed patience and diligence for positive reasons too! The Ten of Pentacles sees you making robust future plans about your career, home, and wealth that you are going to stick to and experience great success with. Consistency wins over talent and luck, in the end. You are a consistent person and when you've got a strong plan to match, you're unstoppable. Get to it. Build your empire.
If you won't deal with it yourself then eventually the Universe will step in and do it for you, though her methods are often more direct and dramatic. And I think you know what I'm talking about because The Tower is kinda difficult to ignore. Something has happened, something big, although you know deep down that this was a long time coming and maybe you should've done something proactively. Well, now it's all out of the bag and you can let it all go. Whatever has blown up or ended was meant to, and the rebuild will be on much firmer foundations. Don't dwell in regret, don't look back. Get on and be grateful that this issue has now been cleared up for you, albeit a bit messily.
Independence and self-sufficiency come very naturally to you, and always have. Even as a child, you liked to do things for yourself, and often by yourself. The Queen of Swords mimics that trait and reinforces it this week. This is a great time for solitude, solo projects and adventures, lone travels and explorations, self awareness and personal development. Get back in touch with YOU. Spend time alone, happy in your own skin, pursuing things which truly fascinate you. Who knows where this solo pathway will lead. Find out!
If you've got a nagging hunch or gut instinct about someone or something potentially being shady, then listen to it and act on it. The Seven of Swords is a reminder that not everyone is as pure and honest as you are, Aquarius. Other folk can carry jealousy, chaos, and even spite. Don't fall prey to it. Batten down the hatches, practice caution, withdraw from exposure, and be prudent about what you say and to whom. Let this dark cloud pass you by and then come back out to play; you'll feel when it's safe again.
The Hanged Man is actually associated with Neptune, your ruling planet, so it's a little-known relevant tarot card for you. The connection is about seeing things from other angles and perspective, maybe even psychic ones (which is your super power). Surrender to life as it is this week. Don't try and control or influence matters, just let them play out as they are, and observe. Discuss with other folk. Try to get a new angle on things. Whatever it is that you unlock will prove to the most powerful leverage. You just need to find it. And it's not what you think it is.

The Summer Shoes To Wear, According To Your Horoscope

Which shoe trend to try this summer is a conundrum plenty of us at the ELLE UK office are navigating. 'Am I a boat or a mesh shoe wearer?', 'Would a wedge or flip flop heel be more "me"?' and, 'Do I dare don toe-separating shoes?' - these are just some of the questions we've been positing each other, largely in vain. To answer them, we're turning our attention from our navels to the stars. That's right, we're looking to our horoscopes to help inspire our summer 2025 footwear and we think you should too. While you should, of course, try any trend that speaks to you, why not take a steer on your purchases according to your zodiac sign? For the believers in the crowd what better tool to bring out your truly personal style? And for the non-believers, no harm, no foul. What better shoe style could you consider for the truly visionary Aquarians than some toe-separating shoes? This marmite style is really made for a star sign intent on forever leading the pack (think Harry Styles and Alicia Keys), plus, their ergonomic credentials make sense for such an intellectual and open-minded crew. We love Vibram's Fivefinger styles that look too cool with midi dresses and vest tops. As the most adaptable of the water signs it figures that Piscians should try a shoe meant for nautical pursuits, but enjoyed on terra firma's front row. Thanks to Piscians' creativity, they are likely style stars, the most famous being one of the world's best dressed, Rihanna. And we know the best dressed out there are wearing boat shoes aplenty. We're wearing our Miu Miu deck shoes with oversized denim and teeny, tiny shorts. Self-confident Aries women can pull off one of this season's trickiest trends: the heeled flip-flop. Pairing particularly well with the similarly divisive capris pant, the Y2K heels demand an ever present pedicure - ideal for the perfectionist Aries. The high street is thankfully awash with takes on the trend, and Zara have both brown and black iterations for an Aries to be a boss in. The adventurous and beauty-craving Taureans should consider bungee cord sandals. Reliable and comfort-focused is how you could describe both these strappy sandals and a Taurus woman - think Gigi Hadid. Miu Miu, of course, is the originator of this style, that work as well on the beach with board shorts and a T-shirt, as they do with a silk slip maxi dress. The multifaceted Gemini woman are nothing if not sneakerinas personified. Geminis should bring their adaptable, outgoing and flexible nature to their shoedrobe and try the hybrid style. Our favourite iterations of the ballet trainer hybrid have to be the Puma Speedcat ballet trainers and the Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 TGRS with mini dresses and cargo style trousers for maximum cuteness. Classic homebodies with a nurturing and traditional nature, Cancerians should be all about the clog for the summer of 2025 (and beyond). You can imagine one of our favourite Cancers, Pamela Anderson, pottering around her garden in some clogs, or even taking them front row too. With everyone from Prada to Penelope Chilvers selling a pair this season, the only question is if you wear with socks or without (we say both). Forever the lead character, Leos deserve nothing less than the glamorous wedge sandal. Recently repopularised by Chloé, there's something about wedge sandals that scream self-confidence and risk-taking - two of the Leo woman's strongest assets. You could dress down your wedge sandals with denim, but we think a Leo woman would go all out in Boho beauty. With the care and attention delicate, pretty, professional and classic ballet shoes need, there's no star sign better suited than Virgos. The perfectionism in Virgos (Beyoncé is a Virgo) will keep ballet flats polished, while their creative side will keep from styling them too primly with some vintage denim and a beat up Birkin. While Chanel ballets flats are, of course, the Holy Grail, we're partial to Mansur Gavriel's styles too. Known for their great sense of humour, Libras should try pair of cheeky and youthful jelly sandals. Jelly sandals' nostalgic vibe are perfect for Libras' charming and romantic nature, with just enough quirk to pull off this off-kilter style. We love Loeffler Randall's Ryhs design, which are bejewelled and look particularly adorable with ankle socks and a midi dress. Intense and magnetic Scorpios have no better footwear match then Tabi shoes. Be it in boot, ballet, Mary-Jane or loafer styles, the weird and wonderful split-toe Tabis offer the same level of mystery the Scorpio does herself. Margiela has the most iconic offerings, but Tabis styles exist outside of the label's realm. Try pairing with suiting for work to bring your witchy side to all parts of your life. If Miley Cyrus, Zoë Kravitz and Janelle Monáe - all famous Sagittarius women - were a shoe, they would likely be mesh flats. Beloved for their free-spirited and adventurous ethos, Sagittarians can handle the daring naked-but-not shoe trend. Best worn with floor-grazing trousers, Dear Frances and The Row have the mesh flats we've got on our wishlists. A Capricorn will take you places, as will a pair of perfectly sculpted skinny trainers. Supportive and realistic, this star sign is best represented by the reigning trainer style of this season - with one eye on style and the other on practicality. Skinny trainers are everywhere, with our favourite styles coming from Puma, Nike and Dries Van Noten. Pair with shorts for maximum get up and go. How Your Zodiac Sign Influences Your Behavior In A Relationship

We've all read the generic horoscopes: Aries is bold, Pisces is sensitive, Scorpio is intense. But when it comes to how you actually behave in relationships, your sign reveals some surprisingly deep-rooted emotional patterns—ones you may not even be conscious of. These aren't just traits—they're survival strategies, love languages, and quiet vulnerabilities that shape how you connect, detach, or stay stuck. If you've ever wondered why you crave constant reassurance, avoid confrontation, or love too hard too fast, your zodiac sign might hold the emotional blueprint. This isn't about who you're 'compatible' with—it's about the unconscious behaviors you bring into love, loyalty, sabotage, and self-protection. Here's how each sign really acts in relationships, and what it might say about what you're still healing. You come in hot—intense, passionate, all-in from day one. But deep down, you're afraid love will dull you, tame you, or worse—trap you. So you pick emotional fights to feel alive again. According to Allure, Aries often approach relationships with fiery intensity and a need to keep things exciting. What looks like impulsiveness is often just fear of emotional stagnation. You mistake peace for boredom. And sometimes you destroy intimacy just to feel like you still have power. You crave comfort, but not just for yourself—you want to shape your partner's habits, moods, and rhythms to match yours. You call it loyalty, but it often becomes quiet domination. When someone disrupts your emotional routine, you shut down instead of adjusting. As described by Elle, Taurus seeks stability and can become possessive when their sense of security is threatened. You fear change because it threatens your sense of safety. But love isn't a garden you can just plant and forget. You have to let it grow wild sometimes, even when it scares you. You're dazzling, attentive, curious—but part of you is always outside the moment, narrating it. You flirt with connection but hesitate to go all the way in. Your mind is miles ahead of your heart, and that emotional lag makes things feel temporary. You chase stimulation over stability. But deep down, you want to be known beneath the wit and charm. Love won't stick until you stop performing and start revealing. You anticipate needs before they're voiced, creating a cocoon of emotional care. But your nurturing often comes with invisible strings: 'Don't leave. Don't grow away from me.' When they do, you feel betrayed—like your love wasn't enough. As Allure points out, Cancer's deep need to nurture and protect sometimes leads to over-involvement. You use caretaking as control. It feels generous, but it's secretly transactional. Letting go of that grip could be the most loving thing you do. You love boldly and want your partner to see you as irreplaceable. But sometimes you mistake admiration for intimacy. You want to be the center, but you struggle when someone else's needs take up space. You aren't shallow—you're scared of being invisible. You crave impact, not just affection. Real connection happens when you let yourself be ordinary, too. You spot what's broken in the relationship—and try to solve it before it gets worse. But underneath your logic is a deep fear that you're not lovable unless you're useful. You hustle for emotional safety instead of letting someone show up for you. Your perfectionism is a shield. You correct because you care, but it can feel cold. Vulnerability, not vigilance, is your missing piece. You're the diplomat, the harmonizer, the one who makes it all look effortless. But sometimes you vanish so the relationship can survive. You say yes when you want to scream. As discussed by Self, Libras tend to prioritize harmony and avoid conflict, sometimes losing themselves in the process. You confuse peace with passivity. You think love means sacrificing your truth for someone else's comfort. But real love asks you to show up, even when it makes things messy. You connect on soul-level intensity, but when hurt, you withdraw, plot, or subtly retaliate. You think vulnerability is a liability, so you keep emotional receipts. Love becomes a power game where no one wins. You want loyalty, but your tests can break the very trust you crave. Intimacy scares you because it softens you. But softness is not surrender—it's where real connection begins. You value independence, adventure, and space—but sometimes it's a smokescreen. You keep things casual not because you don't care, but because you care too much and don't want to get trapped. Love threatens your identity, and that makes you run. You fear intimacy will limit your joy. But the right relationship will never cage you. It will expand what freedom means. You show love through responsibility, loyalty, and long-term planning. But you often bypass emotional presence because you're focused on 'building' something solid. You're dependable, but emotionally distant. You fear being vulnerable because it feels inefficient. But love isn't a goal—it's a process. And your partner needs you to feel with them, not just provide for them. You analyze, explain, detach—because staying in your head feels safer than being in your heart. You fear getting swallowed by emotions, so you mask them in philosophy or rebellion. That distance keeps people intrigued—but also alone. You long for connection on your own terms. But emotional closeness doesn't come with logic. It asks you to stay even when things stop making sense. You fall hard, dissolve boundaries, and romanticize pain as part of the bond. You think being all-in means erasing yourself. But then you wake up feeling lost and resentful. You confuse intensity with intimacy. You don't need to bleed to prove your love. The real magic is when you stay rooted and connected.
