Bristol Bears second row Hollie Cunningham will complete her switch from England to Scotland after being handed her debut in Bryan Easson's side for their Women's Six Nations opener at home to Wales on Saturday.Clubmate Ellianne Clarke and fellow prop Anne Young, of Loughborough Lightning, will make their first Six Nations starts.Edinburgh Rugby/Corstorphine Cougars second row Adelle Ferrie should make her debut after being named among the replacements.And, after recovering from a cruciate ligament injury, Leicester Tigers fly-half Evie Wills is in line for her first international appearance in three years after also being listed on the bench.
Cunningham has represented England at Under-18 and Under-20 levels but qualifies for Scotland through her grandmother and Easson revealed: "We have had our eye on her for a little while. "It is great to see somebody new coming in who drives standards."She is experienced, she has been involved with England at Under-20, she was involved in their Six Nations squad last year as well, but as soon as I spoke to her, she has been desperate, she has been really excited to be involved in the group and she has fitted in really well."Scotland and Wales have been drawn in the same pool for this summer's World Cup and Saturday's game is a bit of a step into the unknown given that the visitors have a new head coach after recruiting Sean Lynn from Gloucester-Hartpury."There is always a new coach bounce, there is always the excitement of a new coach coming in, but I will be honest, there is a big difference between club rugby and international rugby," Easson said."Sean is a good guy, he has done really well at Gloucester and congratulations on that, but this week has been important for us to concentrate more on ourselves than it is the opposition."Easson is rejecting any suggestion it is a chance to lay down a bit of marker, or gain a psychological edge, over the Welsh for the World Cup."I think you have got to respect the Six Nations as the tournament that it is," he said. "It is the best tournament in the world annually and you have to respect Wales in this game because they have got a new coach and they have got new players as well."So three, four, five month's time, whatever it is, it could be a different team you are looking at, different styles."Easson has opted for a split of six forwards and just two backs on the bench."I think the 6-2 split for us is exciting to be able to do it - we have got the players to be able to do it now," he added.

Scotland's Angus Gunn keen to find right club to give him World Cup launchpad
The 29-year-old, who was Steve Clarke's number one at Euro 2024, is currently a free agent after Norwich opted not to extend his four-year stint at Carrow Road. Gunn is weighing up his options for the season ahead and he knows the importance of making the right decision about his future given that Scotland will be aiming to qualify for the World Cup in USA, Mexico and Canada in just over a year. 'Obviously, the transfer window has just opened, so that's just started,' he said, speaking at a media conference after joining up with the Scotland squad for the friendlies against Iceland and Liechtenstein. 'There are a few conversations happening, but I don't want to rush into anything. 'First and foremost, I want to come away and focus on this camp first. Then, I think after that, decisions will be made. 'Obviously, it's definitely a big factor that there's a qualifying campaign coming up for the World Cup in America. That's definitely a big focus for me. It's something that will be in the back of my mind when I make the decision. That's definitely in my thinking. 'There's a lot of factors. Obviously, I'm a bit older now, a bit more experienced and I know the game. I've got a young family as well and I want to look after them. 'At the same time, I've got aspirations in my career and the World Cup is definitely one of them. To reach that would definitely be the pinnacle.' Gunn expressed sadness last month over the nature of his Norwich departure, but he insisted he is now looking ahead with excitement. 'Yes, I'm over it,' he said. 'It was something that I felt personally they could have handled better. But ultimately, I think the decision was probably the right one from both sides for me to move on and go somewhere else in my career. I'm really excited for it.' Gunn was number one throughout the Euro 2024 campaign before a minor injury sustained in October paved the way for 42-year-old Craig Gordon to reclaim the gloves for the last six Scotland matches. The Hearts keeper picked up an injury himself towards the end of the season, meaning Gunn – whose last cap came in September – has a chance to re-establish himself. 'Last season I had a few injuries which kept me out of the squad, so that was frustrating,' he said. 'Obviously it's good to see Craig back playing at Hearts. He picked the injury up in the last part of the season, but he had a good spell in the team. Things change quickly in football, so you never really know. Hopefully I can get the two caps this week and keep moving forward.' Gordon recently extended his contract with Hearts and looks set to continue vying with Gunn for the gloves as he approaches his 43rd birthday. 'It's unbelievable really,' he said of his rival's longevity. 'You don't see many players going that long. It's testament to him and how he's looked after himself and how much hunger he's got to carry on because as you're getting older, the body's going to feel it. 'For him to still have that hunger to keep going, hopefully I've got that in my head going into the latter part of my career.'

A dream come true – Euro 2022 winner Fran Kirby retires from England duty
The 31-year-old retires on the eve of the Lionesses' upcoming European Championship campaign – which begins in July – and finishes her career with 77 caps and 19 goals. Kirby made her senior debut in August 2014 against Sweden and went on to represent England at four major tournaments, as well as featuring for Team GB at the Tokyo Olympics. She claimed bronze at the 2015 World Cup and started in all of England's games at Euro 2022, scoring two goals along the way as the Lionesses lifted their first major trophy on home soil with victory over Germany in the final at Wembley. Her last outing for England came from the bench during their 6-0 win over Portgual on Friday and she announced her decision following the team's 2-1 defeat by Spain on Tuesday. 'After being in the England team since I was 21, it's time to close that chapter of my life,' Kirby wrote on social media. 'I didn't ever want this day to come, but I cannot tell you how proud I am it happened. It's been the biggest honour to represent my country, one that I had only dreamt about as a young girl. 'I've played with incredible players, worked with some incredible managers, played in some amazing tournaments and have some irreplaceable memories. 'My journey has been full of ups and downs, setbacks and achievements. Enough has been said and written about those, but regardless of whatever was thrown at me, I want you all to know that every time I put on that England badge I gave 100 per cent. 'Every single call-up, I accepted my role and did whatever was needed for the team. I wanted England to win. I've always been there to help England win. I have loved working with her, she is an amazing player and a great person. 'I fully understand her decision to say goodbye at this point in her wonderful career, and we will always be grateful for her incredible contribution to the team.'
