Laika's ‘ParaNorman' Is Coming Back to Theaters

If you liked ParaNorman back in the day and wished to see it on the big screen again, you're in luck. Laika's stop-motion horror movie is getting a one-week theatrical re-release in 2D and remastered RealD3D on October 23 internationally and October 25 in the U.S. The film's return marks Laika's second movie to come to back to theatres following Coraline in 2024 for its 15th birthday, and this will be part of the studio's 20th anniversary celebration. Screenings will also come with The Thrifting, a CG short starring Stranger Things' Finn Wolfhard and Anna Kendrick reprising her role as Norman's sister Courtney. ParaNorman released in 2012 and was Laika's second feature film. It earned solid reviews at the time, made $107 million, and racked up several nominations between the Oscars, Golden Globes, and animation-focused Annie Awards. Laika's chief marketing officer David Burke called the film 'a breakthrough… bringing it back to theaters in stunning remastered 3D, paired with a brand-new short film, is an invitation for audiences to rediscover the heart and humor of Norman's world—or experience it for the first time.' 'Today, horror has become a shared family ritual, and ParaNorman sits right at the intersection of spooky and meaningful. It's the perfect 'starter horror'—a gateway into genre storytelling that's as thoughtful as it is thrilling.' Tickets for ParaNorman aren't on sale yet, but when they are, you can get an alert for when to snag 'em here.

Laika Teams Up with CORPSE BRIDE Writer John August For a Haunting New Stop-Motion Movie — GeekTyrant

Laika, the stop-motion powerhouse behind Coraline and Kubo and the Two Strings , is developing another beautifully bizarre film project, this time with screenwriter John August ( Corpse Bride , Frankenweenie ) joining forces with director Pete Candeland. The movie is inspired by an original idea from Candeland and "the story revolves around 'a theatre-loving high school student who is lured into a mystifying never-ending bacchanal in search of her missing mother.' The project was announced at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival by Laika President and CEO Travis Knight, who directed Kubo and the Two Strings and upcoming Wildwood . 'I'm thrilled to be back in the world of stop-motion animation working with a team of incredible artisans telling stories one frame at a time,' said August. 'Truly everything about stop-motion is time-consuming and difficult, but the results have a texture and authenticity that can't be replicated. You can feel the fingerprints of everyone who touched it.' August's projects span animation, live-action, and even podcasting and they include Big Fish. Charlie's Angels , Titan A.E. , Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle , and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005). Beyond the screen, he's also known as co-host of the Scriptnotes podcast with Craig Mazin, where they dissect screenwriting craft for a dedicated following. Candeland in known for his work on Gorillaz music videos, cinematic trailers for Rock Band , and those gorgeously evocative BBC promos. With 2025 marking Laika's 20th anniversary, the studio is making it clear that the future is packed with strange, stylized, and soulful storytelling. Source: Deadline
