Brentford identify highly rated coach as first-choice Thomas Frank replacement
Brentford want first-team assistant coach Justin Cochrane to replace Thomas Frank, if he remains at the club.
Frank is set to be appointed by Tottenham Hotspur and is trying to persuade the highly rated Cochrane to join him in north London.
Cochrane, 43, arrived at Brentford in 2022 to become their head of coaching, and in March joined Thomas Tuchel's backroom staff at England.
Brentford, who also looked at Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna, believe Cochrane is ready to take the next step in his coaching career and succeed Frank - in what would be his first lead role at a senior side.
The former England youth international was previously head of player development at Manchester United and has held numerous coaching roles within youth development at England.
Frank is set to replace Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham after the club moved to dismiss the Australian after he won the Europa League but finished 17th in the Premier League.
Frank, 51, has been at Brentford for seven years, taking the club from the Championship and establishing themselves as a Premier League side.
Brentford had considered a move for McKenna after Ipswich's relegation from the Premier League but they believe the 39-year-old has bigger aspirations within the Premier League.

Tommy Fury forgot basic football rule during Soccer Aid - 'Worst I've seen'
With Tyson Fury set to feature at this year's Soccer Aid - he will be hoping not to embarrass himself on the field, unlike his younger brother Tommy Fury was brutally mocked after the Brit attempted an underarm throw-in during last year's Soccer Aid charity match. The professional boxer and reality TV star was part of a World XI managed by ex-Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino at Stamford Bridge. The exhibition match - which helped raise more than £15million for Unicef - went the way of opponents England in a nine-goal thriller. However, the most viral moment came at 2-2. Fury, 26, shaped to take an orthodox throw-in before opting for the underarm delivery. Play was stopped moments later - with the boxer allowing a team-mate to take the throw as they were supposed to. The cameras quickly cut to Pochettino after the incident. Rather than remaining focused on the task at hand, the 53-year-old burst out laughing while gesturing towards the field of play. Needless to say that was probably as good as it got for Fury - who struggled to make an impact on the pitch. At one point, he completely missed the ball after attempting to smash it up the pitch. "It's a throw in Tommy, not bowling," one social media user wrote after watching the footage. "Hasn't been the same since the Jake Paul fight," joked another, referring to Fury's split decision victory over the YouTuber when the pair met in the boxing ring in 2023. His rival KSI quickly posted: " Tommy Fury should stick to boxing lmao, he's terrible at football," he tweeted. Another user posted: "Tommy Fury might be the worst footballer I've ever seen live." Another tweeted: "Tommy Fury is absolutely a** as footballer." A fifth fan commented: "I don't know if this makes sense but Tommy Fury plays football exactly how you'd imagine a boxer how to play football." Fury's partner Molly-Mae Hague was also quick to share her thoughts Fury's comical underarm throw-in. She very much saw the funny side of it as she took to her Instagram story to write: "Iconcic x," alongside a picture of Fury holding the ball. Despite being born and raised in Manchester, 'TNT' chose to play for the Rest of the World, as he was eligible through his mother Chantal, who is of Mauritian descent. On Sunday evening, Fury's older brother Tyson is set to co-manage England alongside Wayne Rooney at Old Trafford. 'ENGLAND MANAGER! Who would ever have thought it!? Arsenal sent Foden transfer message as Man City accept defeat on Grealish exit
Former Premier League striker Tony Cascarino believes Arsenal should try and sign Manchester City star Phil Foden this summer, while Jack Grealish could depart on loan Arsenal have been urged to sign Phil Foden this summer, with Pep Guardiola revamping his Manchester City squad. City spent big in the January transfer window on the likes of Omar Marmoush, Nico Gonzalez and Abdukodir Khusanov, while Kevin De Bruyne has been released. Guardiola has also signed four new players already this summer, with Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Cherki, Rayan Ait-Nouri all joining City. Jack Grealish is among those expected to leave City, having been left out of their squad for the Club World Cup. However, City are struggling to find buyers for the 29-year-old, who is earning £300,000-a-week at the Etihad and it has been reported that they are now willing to send him out on loan and pay a percentage of his salary. The likes of Newcastle and Napoli have both been mooted as potential destinations for Grealish, but one club that have been told not to sign him are Arsenal. Former Premier League striker Tony Cascarino believes the Gunners should make a move for Foden instead. When asked if Grealish would be a good signing for Arsenal, Casarino told talkSPORT: "No, I think Foden's way more likely. Obviously Arteta worked at Man City with Phil Foden and for whatever reason, I'm sure we'll find out down the line, Phil Foden just hasn't been the player we know him to be this season. "From where he was the Football Writers' Player of the Year the season before, his performances this year have just not justified that. But all that's happening at City and all the spending that's gone on, I wouldn't be surprised if Foden is allowed to go somewhere. "Whether City let him go Arsenal, I don't know, but they let Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko go there. If Arsenal could get him, I think Arteta would really consider that, yeah. Foden is only 26, so he's still got a lot of football in him. "For whatever reason he's had a disappointing year, and I'm sure Arteta would know what's happened and gone on behind the scenes at City, absolutely. And I know some Arsenal fans will say, 'But he's had a poor year', but Phil Foden's a very gifted footballer. A terrific player. "He doesn't want to go into the next season being in and out of a team when there's a World Cup in the summer. Otherwise he won't play, no chance. And what have City spent in the last two windows? They must be close to £300million." Foden scored 27 goals and provided 13 assists in the 2023-24 campaign, but managed just 16 goal contributions the following season. And Foden revealed last month that he had been struggling throughout the campaign with personal issues and injuries. "It's been a frustrating season for me," said Foden. "I've had a lot of things going on off the pitch mentally. It's one of them, sometimes there's things in life that are bigger than football. This season I've struggled a little bit. "Hopefully come next year I can get my head mentally right and get back where I left off the season before, because I know what I'm capable of doing and the quality I have."
