Grant Dixon warms up for 2025 Inter Dominion with Albion Park domination
Premier trainer Grant Dixon has more string to his bow than just champion pacer Leap To Fame heading into a huge hometown Inter Dominion Carnival. Despite Leap To Fame having a night off, Dixon and wife, Trista, flexed their muscle with a feature treble at Albion Park last night. Leap To Fame, who is already two-from-two this campaign, will be back to cap his Inter Dominion preparation at Albion Park next Saturday night. Team Dixon snared the quinella in last night's feature, the Flashing Red Discretionary, when Aroda led throughout with Trista aboard to bet Charge Ahead. Aroda's next target will be a title defence in the $106,070 Group 2 Redcliffe Cup on June 28 before the Inter Dominion starts at Albion Park a week later. Earlier, Dixon's exciting three-year-old Path To Greatness landed a huge plunge ($5.50 into $1.70) to lead throughout and easily win the Queensland Sun. The win secured the gelding a start in the $350,000 Group 1 Rising Sun at Albion Park on July 5. Path To Greatness, who boasts seven wins from just 13 starts, beat stablemate Charge Ahead to give Team Dixon another quinella. The most exciting win of the night came from Team Dixon's recent stable addition, Captains Mistress. The glamour Kiwi filly toyed with older rivals to win by 9.1m in a slick 1min53.1sec mile rate for 1660m. Her major target is the Group 1 Queensland Oaks. The couple have also shared snaps of their post-nuptials photo shoot with Gorry showing off her athlete's physique in a plunging, revealing outfit. As reported by Code Sports, Gorry is the second Matildas' player to marry this week with Ellie Carpenter marrying Danielle van de Donk last weekend at an elaborate celebration in France. The couple, who went with public with their relationship in 2023, announced their engagement in January 2024. Carpenter, 25, took personal leave from the last Matildas window to put the finishing touches on the wedding. Matildas teammate Teagan Micah was part of the wedding party - making a quick trip to France after helping the Matildas beat Argentina earlier this month. Carpenter took to Instagram on Wednesday night to share two photos of the happy couple with the caption 'I choose you. I always choose you.' Both wore traditional white gowns. But his coach Chris Scott felt like it should be viewed in a positive light and nothing to generate negative talk. 'I don't think (Smith) felt like there was focus on him,' Scott said. 'I understand that there were questions around it, but I thought it was more the interest in something that's a bit unusual, like a conversation around the fire that didn't really light very well. 'It's rare for an AFL CEO to do that with a young player. 'We appreciated it, it was a step in the right direction, but maybe I misread it and I don't follow much of that stuff, but I didn't feel like it was a negative that would've put pressure on him. As is always the case with the 24-year-old Smith, he drew a wide range of comments online after his latest impressive display on the field. A third agreed, saying: 'Bailey Smith might actually be a lock for the Brownlow.'
