Is the Last of Us Making Fun of Isabela Merced's Time as Dora the Explorer?

Geek Feed08-05-2025

Isabela Merced is a great actress in her own right, but before she was an unsuspecting pregnant girl being hunted by sci-fi monsters, she was the live-action Dora the Explorer in 2019's Dora and the Lost City of Gold .
A lot of people don't really remember that about Merced, but some fans think that her new hit show The Last of Us , is actually poking fun at Merced's time as the 'super cool exploradora' . As a fan on Reddit had pointed out, Merced's character Dina is kind of surrounded by things that remind people of Dora.
I personally love that Dora the Explorer was extra prepared for the trip. pic.twitter.com/X39Ak0dYJy

First off, when she meets Ellie before they go off to Seattle, Dina brings a map and a backpack (Map and Backpack are Dora's sentient friends who she travels with). She also makes mention of Ellie's boots (Boots is Dora's monkey friend), and they have Seth help them 'swipe' some items for their trip (there is a recurring thief character in Dora named Swiper the Fox that likes to steal); you can even argue that Seth is a 'Silver Fox' regarding his age.
Admittedly, this is all just fun and games, and maybe fans are just connecting dots that are purely a coincidence. But at this point, fans are convinced that these are cheeky references to Merced's short run as a teenage Dora the Explorer.
We don't know what other references to expect in The Last of Us Season 2, but just like the first season, the series is expanding on the story with more characters and shake-ups in the timeline.

Street Fighter: Walton Goggins Allegedly In Talks to Play M. Bison

Walton Goggins had played the villain in a video game movie way back when Alicia Vikander was Tomb Raider , but he could be getting physical in another video game property from Legendary. According to The InSneider, Goggins is currently in talks to play M. Bison for the Street Fighter movie. For context, Bison is considered one of the main villains in the franchise, and was also the main antagonist in the 1993 Street Fighter movie where he was played by Raul Julia. Though that movie is considered terrible by general audiences, it actually has cult status to cinephiles, and Raul Julia's portrayal of Bison was considered one of the best video game villain performances of all time. Going back to Goggins though, we know he can play a great villain, but it does feel like Bison should be able to have the physical chops as well if he's going to be a Street Fighter. If all he has to do is shoot Psycho Crushers at people though, I think it would be fun to just have Goggins just be as ridiculous of a villain as he can be. Heck, he can just do Uncle Baby Billy again from The Righteous Gemstones and I wouldn't complain: Should Goggins get the part, he would be joining a cast which includes Jason Momoa (Blanka), Andrew Koji (Ryu), Noah Centineo (Ken), and Roman Reigns (Akuma). Who knows, maybe they can get his Fallout co-star Ella Purnell to be the new Cammy; or should she be a British pop-star as well? No official release date has been set for Street Fighter , but it's expected to come to cinemas on 2026.

No, You Don't Have to be Worried about Tom Felton for Reprising Draco Malfoy for Broadway

Ever since the Harry Potter movies had ended, main stars Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson have distanced themselves from the franchise, taking on different roles in all kinds of projects. There are some that are still clinging to the fame of their Potter days, and a lot seem to think that Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) is one of those actors. The announcement that he would be reprising the part of an older Draco for The Cursed Child on Broadway was met with some criticism about how he's still holding on to the past: he has maybe the most depressing career of all time — oscar (@_onthewayjay) June 5, 2025 Admittedly, I was kind of on the same boat when the announcement was made, but there were a lot of fans in the comments defending Felton and saying that he's actually been consistently working ever since the franchise ended. @FrancisConnor had pointed out: ' Went to his wiki expecting like 4 roles outside of Harry Potter and no he's just been consistently working since like 2000 what r u talking about.' And yeah, they have a point. After Deathly Hallows Part II , Felton has pretty much been steadily working in multiple projects over the years, even having an appearance in The CW's Flash series. But no doubt, one of his most memorable roles of all time was being witness to this: If you have to be worried about something, it's probably this: Quick reminder on Draco Malfoy actor Tom Felton from the Harry Potter movies: — Wizarding News™ (@wizardingnews) June 5, 2025 Felton will only be in Cursed Child for a limited engagement and will start his 19-week run on Nov. 11.

Marvel Tokon: Is It Game Over for Marvel vs. Capcom?

Marvel Rivals had been a huge win for Marvel Games, and ever since the release of the collection, fans have been hoping for a reveal of the next Marvel vs. Capcom game. As it turns out, we're getting a Marvel-themed fighting game in the same vein as MvC , but it will be a completely new series. Check out Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls : For context Arc System Works is behind fighting game titles like Guilty Gear and Dragon Ball FighterZ. By the looks of it, they've given the Marvel heroes of Tokon their own special anime spin, and we have fresh looks for characters like Captain America, Iron Man, and even Ms. Marvel. We don't know who else could be coming to the roster, but characters spotted in the background include Thor and Daredevil. The way previous Arc System games have also worked, it's possible that they could be releasing characters regularly in the form of DLC. A lot of fans have been wondering why Marvel vs. Capcom hasn't made any announcements despite the fan demand, but some speculate that it has something to do with Capcom not being pleased with the results of their latest MvC title Infinite which came out back in 2017. "it looks like Marvel Vs. Capcom 4, but due to international copyright laws, it's not." — Meester (@GoofTesticles) June 4, 2025 While some fans think that there's a chance for MvC in the future, it does look like Arc Sys has this in the bag. There's already a lot of hype for it, and I can't imagine anything Capcom could do at this point besides just do some crossover DLC with Tokon . Who knows, maybe MvC5 could happen, but Tokon is definitely going to have some implications on what happens with it. No specific release date has been announced for Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls , but we should expect the title to release sometime in 2026 for PC and PS5.
