Parades, concerts and heat warnings will mark Fête nationale in Quebec
Quebecers will be decked out in blue and white today as the Fête nationale holiday is marked by parades, celebrations, and heat warnings.
The festivities are coinciding with some extreme weather conditions this year.
Quebec City announced this week it is opening air-conditioned community centres and libraries and extending hours at splash pads due to an Environment Canada heat warning covering much of the province.
Montreal will be hosting a parade beginning at 2 p.m., followed by an evening concert at Parc Maisonneuve featuring artists such as Robert Charlebois and Sara Dufour.
This year's celebrations will commemorate the 50-year anniversary of the first performance of Gilles Vigneault's song "Gens du pays," which is often considered the province's unofficial anthem.
Quebec says nearly 650 events are happening across the province to mark the holiday also known as St-Jean-Baptiste Day.

It might've been the first official weekend of summer, but some communities in Saskatchewan saw temperatures drop close to and below freezing overnight on Sunday. According to a weather summary from Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), Maple Creek dropped to 1.8 C, breaking a record of 2.8 C set in 1997. Further north, both Spiritwood and Collins Bay slipped below the freezing mark. Spiritwood dropped to -1.1 C, breaking the record of 0.3 C set in 2004. Collins Bay dipped to -1.9 C breaking the record of -1.2 C set in 2015. The summer solstice was officially at 8:42 p.m. on June 20. According to ECCC, the normal overnight low for Maple Creek and Spiritwood this time of year is about 10 C, for Collins Bay it's about 8 C. Overnight lows near or in double digits are expected for all three communities this week. Meanwhile, parts of B.C. and Alberta saw significant snowfall over the weekend. Precipitation was limited to heavy rainfall for much of Saskatchewan.

Severe thunderstorm warning in effect for Windsor-Essex
Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Windsor-Essex. Meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing very strong wind gusts. Hazard: 90 km/h wind gusts. Locations impacted: Windsor, Tecumseh, Belle River, Lakeshore, South Windsor, Windsor Airport, Maidstone, Essex and Stoney Point. Environment Canada says local utility outages are likely. Damage to roofs, fences, soft shelters or trees is likely. There is a risk of injury. Take immediate cover if a thunderstorm approaches. If outside, protect yourself from flying debris and hail. Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are expected to produce damaging hail, wind or rain.

The province is also facing other extreme weather as it celebrates its national holiday.
