Dispersal order in place to stop illegal car meet in Bedfordshire

A dispersal order has been put in place on two roads in a county to try and stop an unlicensed car meet taking place. Bedfordshire Police said the action had been taken to stop antisocial behaviour after a meeting was posted online, with the order covering the Woodside Link in Houghton Regis and the A6 Barton-le-Clay bypass. It would be in place until 20:00 BST on Sunday. The force said there would be a "heightened police presence within Bedfordshire, as well as coordination with local CCTV operators, to deal with those who wish to cause unnecessary disruption".
It comes after there were calls for speed cameras to be installed in the area to deter car meets. The force said: "If any vehicles are used in a manner causing alarm, distress, annoyance to members of the public or likely to endanger the safety to members of the public, we will deal with the driver/car accordingly and robustly."Dispersal orders give officers the power to order a group of two or more people to leave an area if they are suspected of committing, or likely to commit, a criminal offence or antisocial behaviour.

An arson investigation has been launched after a tent which had a dog inside of it was set on fire. Police say the dog was rescued unharmed from the tent which was set alight outside Tesco Express on High Street, Cheltenham on 30 March between 03:15 and 03:30 crews believe the blaze, which was put out by members of the public, was started Police have released a CCTV image of a man who might have witnessed what happened. Passers-by helped extinguish the fire and moved it away from buildings to prevent it spreading, the force said. They believe a man who was seen wearing a white top and dark trousers in new CCTV footage could help them. "He was seen talking to a man who was dressed in dark clothing with his hood up prior to the blaze", police also want to hear from anyone else who might have interacted with the man in dark have also urged anyone with any CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage to get in contact.

One arrest after two teenagers stabbed in Luton park

One person has been arrested after two teenage boys were seriously injured in a stabbing in a town park. Bedfordshire Police officers were called to Stockwood Park in Luton, by the Farley Hill entrance, at about 18:30 BST on Friday, following reports of two people with stab wounds. Emergency services attended and the boys were taken to hospital. The force said it believed it was "an isolated incident without further risk to the public". It added "a strong police presence" would remain at the scene. Stockwood Park is hosting an Eid al-Adha festival that started on Friday afternoon and is due to take place from 13:00 until 21:00 on Saturday.
