Minerals policy to be unveiled at PMIF25
The government is set to unveil its National Minerals Harmonisation Framework 2025 at the Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum 2025 (PMIF25), scheduled for April 8-9.
The framework aims to streamline mining regulations across provinces, ensuring a structured and investor-friendly mineral policy to attract both domestic and foreign investments said a news release.
The federal government, in collaboration with provinces, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), has devised the framework to create a uniform regulatory structure. It focuses on safety, environmental sustainability, and efficient resource extraction while fostering strategic international partnerships in the mining sector.
The framework has been developed through extensive consultation with key stakeholders to ensure inclusivity and effectiveness.
Provincial governments have played an active role in the process. Briefings have been provided to chief secretaries and chief ministers to keep them informed and involved in decision-making.
Their input has been essential in shaping the framework to align with regional needs and priorities.

Two labourers inaugurate four-star restaurant, championing dignity for the working class
Listen to article In a heartwarming gesture that has stirred the community, two labourers were given the honour of inaugurating a newly launched four-star restaurant here on Thursday marking a symbolic step towards acknowledging the dignity and value of the working class in the society. A cobbler Shakeel Ahmad and a baker Ahmad Din cut the ribbon among the hundreds of local businessmen opened the first four-star hotel at Upper Ada in the commercial nerve of the capital city of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). 'People invite government officials and ministers to inaugurate the business centres but we have established this hotel to serve labour class people to get first class meals at special discount at any time,' said Syed Salahud-Din Andrabi the owner of the hotel. Andrabi said though we all know that there is tension on the Line of Control (LoC) between Pakistan and India, but in AJK people do business in tourism and hotel industry from June to September. Hotel and restaurant rooted in the spirit of inclusivity and cultural pride aims to challenge societal norms by offering due respect to those who form the backbone of daily life the labourers. The inauguration saw emotional scenes as the two men cut the ribbon amid applause from guests and dignitaries. 'This is our tribute to the unsung heroes of our society,' said the restaurant's founder Dr Haleem Khan. 'By letting labourers lead this inauguration we want to set an example that every person deserves dignity regardless of their profession,' Khan added. General manager of the hotel, Ahtisham Qurashi, said that the restaurant will serve authentic traditional Kashmiri cuisine, including the much-loved pink salt tea and the multi-layered ghee-rich bread known as 'Bakarkhani'. Qurashi emphasised that the menu reflects the cultural richness of Kashmir and the ambience is designed to evoke a sense of home and heritage. The move has been widely appreciated by social activists and citizens alike, calling it a progressive and thoughtful initiative in a time when inclusivity is more important than ever. Politicians, journalists, businessmen and members of civil society who were present during the inauguration appreciated the hotel management's decision for inaugurating it by labourers to set a lovely example in the society that must be appreciated and encouraged in future.

Article 370 & 35 A: MoFA directed to submit revised diplomatic strategy post-abrogation by next month
ISLAMABAD: The Parliamentary Committee on Kashmir has directed Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) to submit revised diplomatic strategy post-abrogation (Article 370 & 35 A) by next month, well informed sources told Business Recorder. The Committee headed by Rana Qasim Noon, in its previous meeting directed Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Information to submit progress report on Kashmir Desk reactivation and international legal engagements by next month. Prime Minister and Chief Secretary AJK and Board of Investment (BoI) will hold coordination meeting on investment strategy and development roadmap by June 1, 2025. Ministry of Water Resources, Planning Division and AJK Government have been asked to submit progress report on Mangla Dam affected compensation and resettlement by May 23, 2025. The Parliamentary Committee directed Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis, Ministry of Law and Justice, NADRA, IG Punjab, Home Department, Punjab and IG and AJK Government to submit implementation plan and timelines for diaspora facilitation reforms including legislation for decision of overseas in 90 days, enhancement of AJ&K Police cell and immigration issues by June 30, 2025. Government AJK (S&GAD), MoFA, MoKA, PCoK has been asked that in coordination with MoFA, MoKA (Ministry of Kashmir Affairs) and Parliamentary Committee on Kashmir, to finalize list of recipients of AJK National Award for individuals who will be conferred medals by President AJK on October 24, 2025 for services to the Kashmir Cause. Director General Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) was tasked to ensure operationalization of Muzaffargarh Airport and to expedite Mirpur airport as directed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and feasibility of Rawalakot airport by June 30, 2025. The Committee Secretariat has also sent a formal request to Punjab C&W Department to expedite construction of Kashmir Interchange at Deena Bypass. The Committee has also issued notification extending Sub-Committees till July 31, 2025. New City Mirpur Project works along with 35 pictorial sheets to be completed with immediate effect. Pakistan, India talks in Saudi Arabia likely
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and India are expected to engage in high-level talks in Saudi Arabia with mediation from the United States and Saudi Arabia, diplomatic sources told Business Recorder on Wednesday. The talks are expected to centre on the disputed Kashmir issue and the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT), both key flashpoints between the nuclear-armed rivals. The initiative follows renewed diplomatic efforts by US President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who recently brokered a preliminary agreement to resume talks after the recent conflict between the two countries. Trump hopes Pakistan, India will uphold ceasefire Sources said Washington and Riyadh will lead the mediation. India has already stated that it will focus only on terrorism and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and will not discuss Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). Pakistan, however, is pushing for talks on the broader Kashmir issue and the IWT. 'We are optimistic that there will be some breakthrough on both the Kashmir issue and the IWT controversy which India has kept in abeyance in wake of Pahalgam attack,' a senior Pakistani official told Business Recorder, citing increased momentum for scheduling talks due to US and Saudi involvement. In wake of recent tensions, Washington offered to mediate the Kashmir issue – a long-standing dispute between India and Pakistan – and urged both New Delhi and Islamabad to resolve it through talks to prevent further escalation between the two nuclear-armed neighbours. In a move to increase pressure, the US also warned both countries that failure to engage meaningfully could result in suspension of trade relations.
