Watch: Moment man arrested after ramming police cars
A man who rammed three police cars while on a driving ban has been jailed for 22 weeks.
Footage shows Mohammed Shaheeb 'stopping at nothing' to get away from officers.
The 39-year-old's 'appalling' driving injured three police officers during the incident in Birmingham on Oct 5.
After admitting dangerous driving, being equipped for theft and several other driving offences, Shaheeb was sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court.
West Midlands Police said that he had been spotted asleep behind the wheel of his parked VW Scirocco with tape covering his number plate.
When officers approached him to try to wake him up, he reversed the vehicle and fled the scene.
Despite being threatened with a taser by two more officers who were blocking his path farther up the road in the centre of the city, Shaheeb again tried to evade capture.
One officer had to jump out of the way before he crashed into three police cars. A civilian's vehicle was also damaged.
'Extensive history of vehicle crime'
Video from officers' bodycams shows Shaheeb, already serving a driving ban until March 2027, eventually being apprehended by officers.
Two sets of pliers, a pair of scissors and a number of false registration plates were found in his vehicle, the force said.
At his sentencing, he was banned from driving for a further five years.
Ch Insp Colin Gallier, from the Guardian Taskforce, said: 'This was absolutely appalling driving from a man who appeared to want to stop at nothing to get away.
'Shaheeb has an extensive history of vehicle crime, and the fake number plates and pliers in his car at the time suggest he was out committing crime at the time our officers became suspicious of him.
'It's pure luck that no one was more seriously injured in this, and I commend the bravery of the officers who contained him and stopped him from getting away and causing more harm to the community.'
