CBS Sports doesn't think highly of Michigan football entering 2025
There were few teams last year in college football that had a stronger finish than Michigan football. The Wolverines won their last three games including against eventual national champion Ohio State and against an Alabama team many thought deserved to be in the College Football Playoff.
Yet, even with an intact, returning defense, revamped offense, and amenable schedule (opponent-wise), some have little faith.
You can count CBS Sports' Tom Fornelli among the doubters. Last week, Fornelli predicted each Big Ten team's wins and losses and despite the finish last year, he has the maize and blue losing four games.
Wins: New Mexico, Central Michigan, Wisconsin, Washington, at Michigan State, Purdue, at Northwestern, at MarylandLosses: at Oklahoma, at Nebraska, at USC, Ohio State
Analysis: Last year, I gave Michigan the benefit of the doubt coming off a national title. This year, I'm not. The wins over Ohio State and Alabama to end the season papered over some of the team's significant problems, and all the key players from that title team are gone now. Maybe Bryce Underwood is the Prince Who Was Promised right away, but I expect some growing pains. Pick: Under 8.5 (+148)
Michigan won eight (out of 13) games last year, despite having an offense that was essentially incapable of scoring, against a much more difficult schedule. Is it possible that the Wolverines will lose the four games mentioned? Sure. Especially with three of them being on the road. Oklahoma and Nebraska have been particularly aggressive in the transfer portal and have good quarterbacks, while USC is a bit of a question mark. Ohio State has fielded incredible teams and yet has lost to Michigan in the past four seasons.
Our thought is that Michigan is more likely to win 10 games -- especially considering that it finished last year beating two teams no one thought it could beat. Especially considering the Alabama game, where most of the productive players do return (unlike Fornelli's assumption), there's really nowhere to go but up.

Texas With Some Catching Up to Do in SEC Recruiting Rankings
Texas With Some Catching Up to Do in SEC Recruiting Rankings originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Texas Longhorns have played one season in the SEC, but they have already made their mark, appearing in the conference championship and the College Football Playoff. Advertisement While the results are happening on the field, recruiting could use some work. On3 Sports updated their SEC team recruiting rankings, and it looks like the Longhorns have some work to do. The updated rankings showed Texas at No. 6 among the SEC. Texas ended the regular season at 11-1, with its only loss coming at the hands of the Georgia Bulldogs, 30-15. The Longhorns reached the SEC Championship Game and lost in overtime to Georgia 22-19. Martinez/American-Statesman / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Texas' 2026 class is not lacking talent, with one five-star commit, six four-star commits and five three-star commits. The class is highlighted by five-star quarterback Dia Bell, four-star athlete Jermaine Bishop Jr., four-star defensive lineman Dylan Berymon and four-star receiver Chris Stewart. Advertisement One thing that can comfort Texas fans is knowing that Sarkisian is a talented recruiter. Dating back to 2022, the Longhorns have had a top-10 recruiting class on On3 Sports. The only time that Texas has not done so was Sarkisian's first year with the program in 2021, when the Longhorns finished No. 13 overall in that cycle. One of the recent additions to Sarkisian's 2026 class was four-star defensive lineman Corey Wells. The Longhorns also received some great news regarding five-star offensive tackle Felix Ojo. Ojo announced that he was canceling his official visit with the Oklahoma Sooners and that a decision would be coming soon. Texas' First Loss of 2025 College Football Season Predicted
Texas' First Loss of 2025 College Football Season Predicted originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Texas Longhorns are 38-17 under head coach Steve Sarkisian since he took the job in 2021. During that time, Sarkisian has taken Texas to one bowl game and appeared in the College Football Playoff twice. However, some are skeptical about Texas in 2025. Advertisement ESPN's Joe Fortenbaugh joined a recent episode of "Get Up" to discuss regular-season win totals for college football. He predicted Texas to lose its season opener against the Ohio State Buckeyes on August 30. Ohio State ended Texas' season, handing the Longhorns a 28-14 loss in the semifinal of the playoff. The Buckeyes went on to win the national title. Texas Longhorns Head Coach Steve Sarkisian. © Ricardo B. Brazziell/American-Statesman / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images "All we need are two losses," Fortenbaugh said. "I see them losing to Ohio State to open the season, and then as you work your way down, there are plenty of problems. Road game at Florida. Road game at Georgia. Fourth-toughest schedule in the nation. So yea, I think this is a team that's very overvalued." Advertisement Fortenbaugh even called Texas the most overvalued team in college football, referring to their 10.5 regular-season win total as reported by ESPN BET. The roster in Austin is going to look quite different in 2025. Texas lost players like quarterback Quinn Ewers, offensive tackle Kelvin Banks Jr., receiver Matthew Golden and defensive back Jahdae Barron to the 2025 NFL Draft. Former No. 1 overall recruit from the 2023 class, Arch Manning, will finally get his shot to win the quarterback job for the Longhorns. He played in 10 games last season, with two starts. Manning led his team to wins over UL Monroe and the Mississippi State Bulldogs. Advertisement Rarely is Manning not the topic of conversation regarding Texas. That was the case with Heisman sleeper predictions by college football analyst Michael Bratton. He picked running back Tre Wisner as a sleeper for the award. Texas and Ohio State have played each other four times, with the series split evenly at 2-2. The Longhorns have a chance for revenge on August 30 at noon ET on Fox.
