Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan has spoken for the first time in years and hit back at those questioning his commitment to the club, insisting he's determined to turn their fortunes around following a disastrous relegation to League One.
After a wretched season, the Bluebirds' fate was finally sealed courtesy of a 0-0 draw with West Bromwich Albion, with the club sinking to the third tier for the first time in 22 years.

Supporters have predictably reacted with sadness, and indeed frustration, much of which has been aimed at Tan and the rest of the board. Join the Cardiff City breaking news and top stories WhatsApp community.

The Cardiff City Supporters' Trust recently requested an urgent meeting with Tan "to discuss the failings which have culminated in our relegation to hear what fundamental changes are going to be put in place throughout the club from top to bottom to avoid further failings in future". Yesterday, WalesOnline penned an open letter to the owner urging communication with supporters.
In response to growing fan discontent, Tan said in a statement on Tuesday morning: "I wish to acknowledge the open letter that has been issued by our supporters' trust. We hear your words and I share your hurt and frustration. Not all decisions when it comes to the first team have worked as I had hoped for us.

"To lose our place in the Championship is upsetting. The important thing is that we regain it at the earliest opportunity and I would like to take this chance to tell you that I am committed to getting us back. A period of review is being undertaken; a permanent manager and management team will be appointed in the coming weeks. As a point of developing strategy, our board of directors have begun internal discussions with executive management and staff to strategise and plan for the summer and new season."
Tan also hit back at critics, many of whom have questioned his level of interest in the team's fortunes over the last few years.
"To say I don't care is wrong and I strongly push back on that," he added. "I watch every game and speak to the board and manager before and after each one. My family will tell you: I kick every ball!

"We have enjoyed good times together. I can tell all Cardiff City supporters that it is my intention to support correcting the situation we find ourselves in. I want us to all pull in the same direction.
"I will make every effort to be in Cardiff at the next opportunity that my scheduling allows. I am sorry that we are where we are this summer. It is now time to rebuild."
The club has also released as statement acknowledging the Trust's comments, and echoed Tan's insistence that a thorough review of all areas of the club would be undertaken in response to what's been a traumatic season for everyone in the capital.

"The club and its board of directors acknowledge the recent communication from Cardiff City Supporters' Trust and the overwhelming feeling of supporter sadness and frustration that accompanies us leaving the Championship for the 2025/26 season.
"We hear you.
"This will be the first time in 22 years that Cardiff City Football Club has not been a Premier League or Championship club and it's a reality that we are determined to address and correct at the earliest opportunity.

"To have the best chance of achieving this, there will be a thorough period of review across several structures and practices. This review has begun and involves the owner, board, executive management and stakeholders. It will culminate in the appointment and announcement of a new permanent manager and management team that can sculpt and coach a competitive squad through pre-season and into the 2025/26 campaign.
"This message has been internally communicated to club staff as the first point of a developing strategy. We commit to communicating further strategy points with you as the summer progresses; as appointments are made; as our revamped playing squad takes shape; and as we rebuild.
"Thank you for your support."

Next Brentford manager odds make little-known candidate favourite

The favourite to be Brentford's next manager would not only be taking his first role in charge of a Premier League club, but in charge of any club at all. Thomas Frank is the hot favourite to become the next Tottenham boss after the dismissal of Ange Postecoglou. The Dane has been in charge of the Bees since 2018 and done a fantastic job, leading them up from the Championship and establishing them as a consistent force in the Premier League. He now looks set to move on, with Spurs making him their number one target and Frank recognising the opportunity to take charge of the Europa League winners who will return to the Champions League next season. A deal is far from done, but if Frank does indeed move across London to take charge of Spurs, he will need to be replaced. The favourite with the bookmakers to be the next Bees boss is a well established coach, but will be a new name to many Premier League fans. Justin Cochrane has been on the coaching staff with the Brentford first team since July 2022 and took up a second role with the England senior team in February this year. On that appointment in February, he said: 'It's an honour to be asked to work for the senior men's national team,' said Cochrane. 'This is a really exciting opportunity for me and I'm extremely grateful to Brentford for allowing me to take on this role.' Cochrane had a 13-year playing career in the lower leagues but has stepped up a level after moving into coaching. He worked in the Tottenham academy, coached England up to Under-17 level, then became head of player development and coaching at Manchester United in 2021. Now after his time as Frank's assistant and working with Thomas Tuchel, he is being tipped to take over the top job at Brentford. Justin Cochrane 4/7 Kieran McKenna 7/2 Kjetil Knutsen 8/1 Danny Rohl 8/1 Michael Carrick 12/1 Edin Terzic 16/1 Steven Gerrard 16/1 Sean Dyche 16/1 Steve Copper 16/1 Gary O'Neil 16/1 Marco Rose 16/1 Odds courtesy of BetVictor BetVictor make Cochrane the runaway favourite, with other candidates lagging a long way behind in the betting. Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna is second-favourite, with Bodo/Glimt boss Kjetil Knutsen next in line. Other managers considered potential contenders include Danny Rohl and Michael Carrick, while the likes of Steve Cooper, Edin Terzic and Marco Rose are outsiders. Negotiations are ongoing between Spurs and Brentford over a deal for Frank. The BBC report that a compensation package could exceed £10m and will rise further if Frank wants to take members of his staff with him. A deal looks likely to be struck, though, with reports even suggesting that Frank is already trying to influence transfer policy at Tottenham. With Bryan Mbeumo a target for Manchester United this summer, Frank has reportedly told Spurs to do their best to beat the Red Devils to sign the Brentford forward. 'Manning will improve performances and results'

Liam Manning's ability to overachieve and improve both performances and results were key to his arrival at Norwich City, according to sporting director Ben former Bristol City boss has signed a four-year contract at Carrow Road having led the Robins to the Championship play-offs last season."With Liam we have someone who knows the league and has demonstrated an ability to overachieve consistently in his career so far and plays with the requisite flexibility which we lacked last year," said Knapper."We've followed his career and I've got some close connections to Liam as well so was aware of him before he took a head coach role but last year was a big step and drew us to him even more." Norwich finished 13th last season, 11 points adrift of the play-offs, and sacked Johannes Hoff Thorup in April after less than a year in leaving the role the Dane believed there were mixed messages on whether to prioritise player development over results and said he would have done some things differently. "Had the communication from the start been that we should reach the top six and be one of the play-off clubs, then we would probably have made some other decisions along the way," Thorup told Danish sports magazine is convinced the new boss can build a competitive squad while aligning with the club's ambitions."We've got big ambitions here at this club that the owners are clear about - we're all here to achieve some big things and the only way we're going to do that is with results," he said.
