
Eight boys arrested and stinger used to stop stolen cars
Eight boys were arrested following a managed containment operation after gardaí on patrol in Kilkenny saw two stolen cars being driven dangerously.
The cars were brought to a stop on the N25 at Grannagh roundabout near Waterford city yesterday evening after a stinger device was deployed by gardaí.
One of the stolen cars collided with a separate vehicle during the incident. No injuries were reported.
Gardaí said both cars were "were reported to have been subject to unauthorised taking in recent days".
The cars were observed by gardaí on patrol being driven dangerously shortly before 6pm yesterday in the Kilkenny area.
Gardaí said eight boys were arrested and detained at garda stations in the east of the country under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
However, all eight were released without charge pending further investigation and files are being prepared for the Garda Youth Diversion Office and investigations are ongoing.

Gardaí launch urgent search appeal for missing Dublin 13-year-old
Gardaí have launched an urgent search appeal for a missing teenager as concern grows for his welfare. Eoghan O'Reilly, 13, has been missing from the Springfield area of Tallaght, Dublin 24 since the evening of Sunday, June 8. He was last seen in the area at approximately 5pm. Eoghan is described as being approximately five feet in height with a slim build. He has brown hair and blue eyes. When last seen, Eoghan was wearing black and grey tracksuit bottoms, a black North Face jacket, and blue and black Nike Air Max shoes. It is believed that Eoghan may have travelled to the Coolock, Dublin 17 area. Gardaí and Eoghan's family are concerned for his wellbeing and have appealed for anyone with any information on his whereabouts to contact authorities. A Garda spokesperson said: 'Gardaí are seeking the public's assistance in tracing the whereabouts of 13-year-old Eoghan O'Reilly who is reported missing from the Springfield area of Tallaght, Dublin 24 since the evening of Sunday, 8 June'. They added: 'Anyone with any information on Eoghan's whereabouts are asked to contact Tallaght Garda Station on 01 666 6000 the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.'

Gardaí confirm theft of cattle trailer in Co. Cavan
Gardaí are investigating the theft of a cattle trailer, which was stolen from a yard in Mullagh, Co. Cavan. According to An Garda Síochána, trailers are one of the most commonly stolen items of farm machinery. They have also indicated that these type of thefts have an 'increased occurrence' in spring and autumn, potentially because of increased farming activity during these months. An Garda Síochána has confirmed that the Hamilton cattle trailer was stolen between 3:00pm on Saturday, June 7 and 10:00am on Monday, June 9. The investigation into the theft is ongoing. Gardaí An Garda Síochána continues to urge farmers to protect their property and farm machinery and has issued some key theft prevention advice including: Restrict access to your property; Consider appropriate signage such as private property; Install gates and fix them to a sturdy concrete or metal post; Illuminate areas which are overlooked from the dwelling; Consider installing CCTV for areas out of view of the farmhouse; Store tools and smaller machinery in a building, close to the farmhouse, with enhanced security features. Meanwhile last month gardaí reported a decrease in burglaries and robberies in the first quarter (Q1) of 2025, when compared to the same period last year. According to provisional crime statistics, the level of property crime has decreased across all crime types in Q1 2025. Gardaí said that aggravated burglaries were down by 29% and residential burglaries dropped by 17% in the period. The provisional data shows that March 2025 had the lowest level of recorded residential burglary since 2021. During Q1 2025, there was an average of approximately 15 residential burglaries per day across the 26 counties, or less than 1 residential burglary per day per county. In the 10 years of Operation Thor, recorded residential burglaries during the winter phase (October – March) have dropped by 75%. Operation Thor actively targets organised crime gangs and repeat offenders through co-ordinated crime prevention and enforcement activity based on intelligence and the latest burglary trends.

Two arrested after Limerick drive-by shooting last month
Gardaí investigating a drive-by shooting in Limerick city last month have made a number of arrests. Gardaí said they arrested two men as part of the ongoing investigation into an incident in which a firearm was discharged in the Hyde Avenue area of Ballinacurra Weston on 8 May 2025. During the course of the operation at a domestic residence, gardaí from the Limerick Crime Functional Area also seized suspected controlled drugs at a domestic residence with an estimated value of more than €28,000. The two men, aged in their 20s and late teens, are being questioned at garda stations in Co Limerick under the provisions of Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2007. The arrests follow an appeal by gardaí for people to contact them in relation to recent violent incidents in Limerick city and its suburbs. This included drive-by shootings and petrol bomb attacks in the Southill and Hyde Road areas. . Speaking on RTÉ's Drivetime, Mr Smart vowed to utilise organised crime legislation "to its fullest" to make people "accountable for the actions that they're taking bringing innocent people into fear". He said there has been "no loss of life" in relation to current activities in Co Limerick, but urged people to be "conscious of that" and "careful of what they're doing".
