Belgium closes its airspace due to malfunction in air traffic control service

Saba Yemen30-01-2025

Brussels - Saba:
Belgium has closed its airspace due to a technical malfunction in the air traffic control service.
The Belgian News Agency "Belga" said today, Thursday, on its account on the "X" platform: "Belgian airspace is currently closed due to a technical problem with the air traffic control service provider (Skeyes)."
For its part, the Belgian channel "RTL" reported that "all aircraft that were in Belgian airspace were diverted to neighboring countries due to a technical malfunction in the air traffic control service."
The spokesman for the air traffic control service, Kurt Verweiligen, told the channel: "All aircraft that were in the airspace within the Skeyes control range were diverted to neighboring countries... This was done safely using a backup system."
"RTL" suggested that the malfunction may have been caused by a malfunction in the computer system of the "Skeyes" company, but the cause of the malfunction has not yet been precisely determined, according to the channel.

Starbucks drive-thru and Sainsbury's plan unveiled for Kilmarnock

The huge retailers have drafted blueprints for a plot of land in the north of the town. Kilmarnock could be set for a retail double-whammy after plans for two new developments were announced. The town could welcome its first Starbucks and Sainsbury's if blueprints are approved by East Ayrshire Council planners. ‌ Proposals show that the coffee giant wants to bring a drive-thru to the north of the town between Glasgow Road and the Southcraig estate. ‌ Supermarket giant Sainsbury's plan to bring one of their local stores to the same spot in a bid to create a mini retail park. Both units could bring in up to 44 new jobs to the area with an estimated 8 full-time and 12 par-time roles at Starbucks and 20 to 24 part-time jobs at Sainsbury's. The site will have room for 32 standard car parking spaces, four disabled spots and 12 cycle parking spaces and 12 EV charging spaces. Access to the development is via Southcraig Avenue, not Glasgow Road. Sainsbury's would have a 260m squared sales area, according to documents. ‌ A design statement reads: "The proposed coffee unit would be occupied by Starbucks and comprises a single story unit with integrated roof totem. The building design and proposed materials have been evolved by Starbucks over the past few years to meet the specific visual and operational requirements of their brand. "As outlined above it's important to note that the building is designed to function and be seen 'in the round' so even the more functional areas line the service bin store are integrated into the building's design to minimize its impact. "The proposed Sainsbury's unit similarly has brand appropriate materials but the elevations have been amended to give as much frontage to the site while maintaining the functional requirements of the unit." East Ayrshire planners will rule on the blueprints at a future date.

Sharjah Guides Kuwait's Age-Friendly City Journey

The workshop reviewed the Emirate of Sharjah's experience in the field of age-friendly cities. The workshop supported Kuwait's efforts to join UNESCO's Global Network for Age-Friendly Cities, which Sharjah became the first Arab city to join in 2017. Enhancing Arab cooperation The initiative comes within SSSD commitment to spreading the culture of age-friendly cities and sharing its expertise with relevant regional and international bodies. The department was keen to organise this training meeting to enhance Arab cooperation and provide the necessary technical and knowledge support to enable sister countries to adopt international standards in elderly care. Asmaa Al-Khudari, Director of the Office of Age-Friendly Quality and Health Services at the department, explained that the Kuwaiti Ministry of Health has shown great interest in joining the network, based on its significant efforts to serve the elderly through various projects and programmes. Sharing Sharjah's pioneering experience The ministry is currently seeking to unify these efforts within a comprehensive framework that takes into account the requirements of the international network. Al-Khudari added that the meeting is the second of its kind to be organised at the official request of the ministry. It aims to help them implement the age-friendly city standards and share Sharjah's pioneering experience in this field. Al-Khudari confirmed that SSSD always welcomes providing technical and advisory support to any entity seeking to create a better environment for the elderly. Enhancing knowledge and exchanging experiences Al-Khudari indicated that organising such workshops is part of the department's strategy to enhance knowledge and exchange experiences, and to consolidate Sharjah's role as a knowledge centre and source of inspiration for Arab cities seeking to improve services for the elderly. Al-Khudari said she hopes to see soon see the State of Kuwait on the list of the global network member cities, alongside other Arab countries that embrace this shared humanitarian vision. The workshop was attended by a number of officials from the Kuwaiti Ministry of Health, including Dr. Fatima Bin Dhafari, Director of the Department of Health Services for the Elderly, and Dr. Amal Al Yahya, Director of the Healthy Cities Office. A number of coordinators from government and private institutions involved in serving the elderly also attended, along with a distinguished group of elderly Kuwaitis. This reflects the ministry's commitment to listening to their feedback and taking it into consideration when developing future policies and programmes.
