Mysterious Ford automobile found in hangar of USS-Yorktown shipwreck that sank during WWII
A crew exploring the USS-Yorktown shipwreck made an unexpected discovery when they located a mysterious Ford automobile among the wreckage over the weekend, officials said.
The faint outline of a suspected 1940-41 black Ford Super Deluxe 'Woody' was found Saturday by a remotely operated vehicle in the hangar deck of the historic World War II aircraft carrier that sank during the Battle of Midway in 1942, according to the NOAA Ocean Exploration.

Further exploration the following day showed the car upright with part of its license plate reading, 'SHIP SERVICE __ NAVY' and the windshield still intact about three miles below the surface.
'It's a car. That's a car,' a researcher was heard saying on a livestream of the expedition, the Miami Herald reported. 'That is a full car.'
'Why is there a car on this boat?' another researcher asked.
NOAA officials believe the car might have been used by Rear Admiral Jack Fletcher, Captain Elliott Buckmaster or another crew member while the USS Yorktown was docked at foreign ports.

The researchers questioned why the vehicle was left on the vessel as the crew desperately hurled heavy machinery off the sinking ship to lower its load after it was struck by a Japanese torpedo.
'Yorktown's salvage crew worked tirelessly to jettison anti-aircraft guns and aircraft to reduce its list [after the torpedo strike], but did they leave the car, something they could roll off the side?' NOAA officials said in an email to the Herald.
'Perhaps the car belonged to someone important on the ship or to the fleet: the captain or admiral.'
There are also questions about why the car remained on the ship after it briefly stopped off at Pearl Harbor for a 48-hour repair ahead of the planned battle, officials said.

A Dark Art: New Ford Territory flagship SUV arrives in SA
The new Ford Territory Dark Edition has the same turbocharged 1.8-litre petrol engine producing 138kW and 318Nm. It's available in Lustrous Crystal White, Grey, Panther Black, and Ruby Red. Unique to the Territory Dark Edition is a new 360-degree camera. A year after its launch, Ford South Africa has introduced its first update to the Territory range with the new Dark Edition, replacing the outgoing and former flagship Territory Titanium. The Dark Edition is a relatively mild update, altering the vehicle's main cosmetic focal points but not going beyond skin deep. As the name suggests, anything formerly chrome or mirror-finish has been replaced with high-gloss black. These include its satin black grille, high-gloss black treatment for the skid plate, fog light accents and mirror caps. It looks particularly striking in Crystal White but is available in other colours, such as Lustrous Grey, Panther Black, and Ruby Red. Inside, the polarising blue and black leather combination in the Titanium makes way for conventional black leather to match the Territory Dark Edition's charcoal black headliner, pillars, door trims, and instrument panel with Cyber Orange stitching. As the new flagship in the range, it inherits the Titanium's technological full house. Nice-to-haves such as the eight-speaker sound system, wireless charging and the 12.3-inch high-definition digital instrument cluster in combination with the 12.3-inch landscape infotainment touchscreen are all standard. Safety features are equally weighty and include Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) with Cross-Traffic Alert, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go, Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Warning and Lane Change Assist. The 1.8-litre turbocharged engine is unchanged, as are the four driving modes: Eco, Normal, Sport, and Mountain. In a fiercely competitive segment that seems to gain new, mostly Chinese, competitors almost weekly, the new Dark Edition will hope to shed a lot more light on the avalanche of SUVs. In addition, over-the-counter (OTC) parts and service parts warranty (SPW) are covered for two years or unlimited distance. The recommended service interval is 15 000km or annually, whichever occurs first.

Rad! 2026 Ford Mustang FX Package Remasters 1980s-Era Fox Body
The so-called "Fox body" Ford Mustangs, the third-generation cars built from 1979 through 1993, are enjoying a sort of nostalgia-driven renaissance in interest these days. Unsurprisingly, this is because those who were young when the Fox bodies were on sale are now older, maybe with some extra cash and spare garage space to start collecting these Mustangs off-lawn, so to speak. How "in" are Fox bodies these days? Ford is even getting in on the action with a new FX package that celebrates the Mustang defined by the 1980s. This isn't the first time Ford has dipped into Fox-body lore lately, either—when the current Mustang arrived for 2024, its digital gauge cluster even included a setting that recreates the Fox body's old-school analog gauge pack. The FX package takes the nostalgia a lot further, of course, with white badges, white wheels, retro "Mustang" lettering, and more. It's available only on the Mustang GT Premium trim level, on both the coupe and convertible, and with or without the Performance package. It Ain't Real If It Ain't Teal Ford doesn't choose just any white paint for the FX package; since all things Mustang must treat time like a flat circle, everything you see painted white is, specifically, painted Oxford White, a hue that was available on the original Mustang. It's used for the "GT" badges, wheels, retro "Mustang" sticker on the rear glass (coupe only), and the "nostrils" in the grille on Performance package variants. There are two wheel designs and both evoke classic Fox body designs, with the version you see here adopting a slick turbofan style. The other version—for non-Performance-pack cars—is a classic five-spoke. Both wear color-matched center caps bearing "Mustang GT" lettering in what Ford says is a new font (that happens to look like an old, Fox-body font, but who's keeping close track?). Oh, and speaking of paint, the FX package introduces a new-for-2026 paint color (which also will be available on other '26 Mustangs): Adriatic Blue Metallic. Put simply, it's a rad teal color (pictured here)—what could be more Fox-body-era than that? Another new paint color this year is Orange Fury Metallic. It has no specific history linked to the Fox body, it's just worth mentioning since it hasn't been offered on the Mustang since 2019. Pivotal Digital Setting aside how blown peoples' minds would have been if, in the 1980s, their Fox body Mustangs came with the sort of digitized dashboard that today's Mustang gets (FX package included), Ford has put some effort into backdating the FX's interior. Plaid-like seat inserts do a lot of the heavy lifting here, but remember, there's always that Fox body gauge cluster option. Less obvious is the Dark Alley interior trim borrowed from the Mustang Dark Horse model, as well as subtle blue stitching and a "Mustang GT" badge on the passenger-side dash. Ford hasn't outlined the FX package's price yet, but mentions that order books for the 2026 Mustang lineup overall open in later in June 2025. We'll surely find out then how much this retro FX package (and the Mustang overall) costs. But if you want to rock out with your 1980s out in a new-generation Mustang, you should definitely peep this one.
