B.C. Lions vs. Edmonton Elks Live Blog: Snoop Dogg gets the party started

We'll be providing updates on the rapper's pre-game concert ahead of the B.C. Lions opener against the Edmonton Elks tonight at B.C. Place. We'll be doing the same with the game, of course.
How much we will keep up with the rhyming is to be determined.
Mr. Dogg is slated to take to the stage at 5:45 p.m. The Lions and Elks are set to going at 7 p.m.
This is the fourth straight year that Lions owner Amar Doman has brought in a marquee musical artist for the opener. OneRepublic, LL Cool J and 50 Cent have performed in the past years.
The match-up between B.C. and Edmonton features a duel of Canadian quarterbacks, with Nathan Rourke (born in Victoria, raised in Oakville, Ont.) under centre for the home side and Tre Ford (Niagara Falls) at the controls for the Elks. This is the first time in league history that a Week 1 game has had two starting quarterbacks from Canada. It will be the 12th time since 1950 with a game featuring two Canadian starting quarterbacks.
The game also features two rookie head coaches in B.C.'s Buck Pierce and Edmonton's Mark Kilam. The last time two first-year coaches squared off against one another was in 2019, when the Hamillton Tiger-Cats' Orlando Steinauer and Saskatchewan Roughriders' Craig Dickenson were on the opposites sides.
The Lions will draw 50,000 fans for their home opener for the second straight year. The last team to do that was Montreal Alouettes in 1978 and 1979 at Olympic Stadium.

'What Amar is reliving to the fans of Vancouver is spectacular,' Johnston says. 'The investments he's making, the marketing he's putting behind it, the focus on youth and engaging them … I think what's he's done is spark something that had been simmering here for a long time.'

Summer McIntosh reclaims 400-meter freestyle world record from Ariarne Titmus at Canadian Trials
The 400-meter freestyle remains one of the most competitive races in the world, and Summer McIntosh just raised the bar again. The 18-year-old star reclaimed the world record in the event on Saturday at the Canadian Swimming Trials, posting a 3:54.18 while beating the other swimmers in the pool by more than 13 seconds. It took multiple seconds after McIntosh finished for any other competitors to enter the frame. Katie Ledecky was the owner of the 400-meter freestyle world record until 2022, when Australia's Ariarne Titmus broke the six-year-old mark at the Australian Championships. McIntosh claimed the record at 16 years old the next year, only for Titmus to respond a month later at worlds with 3:55.38, the record that stood until Saturday. Advertisement The triumvirate of McIntosh, Ledecky and Titmus has become one of swimming's highest-profile rivalries, with the trio making up the podium at the 2024 Olympics in Paris: Timus gold, McIntosh silver, Ledecky bronze. At 28 years old, it wouldn't be inconceivable that Ledecky could fall behind the teenage McIntosh and 24-year-old Titmus, but the nine-time Olympic gold medalist stunned the world last month with the second-best time of her career, in a race where she beat out McIntosh. However, McIntosh showed Saturday she still has plenty of runway left in her career to keep improving.

Canada's McIntosh crushes 400m freestyle world record
Summer McIntosh smashed the women's 400m freestyle world record in winning the title at the Canadian Swimming Trials in 3min 54.18sec on Saturday, sending a signal for this year's World Championships in Singapore. McIntosh, a three-time Olympic gold medallist and former world record-holder in the event, sliced more than a second off the previous world record of 3:55.38 set by Australian Ariarne Titmus at the 2023 World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan. Advertisement "Going into tonight I knew that my training has been really good these past few months, and I knew that I could do something special," the 18-year-old star said. "I mean, I didn't think my training would be 54.1, but I'm really happy with that overall." It was McIntosh's first race of the trials in Victoria, British Columbia, selection meet for the worlds in Singapore July 11-August 3. She's entered in seven events, including the 800m free, 400m individual medley, 200m individual medley, 200m free, 200m butterfly and 200m backstroke. She has indicated she aims to compete in five events at worlds. With Titmus taking a season off, she can expect her greatest challenge in the 400m free to come from Katie Ledecky, but after Saturday's showing McIntosh appeared more than up for a clash with the US great. "To be honest I didn't really feel a lot of pain in that," she said. "I just felt so strong throughout and that's never been the case in the 400 freestyle for me. "The last 100, I'm always really, really hurting, but I flipped up the 200 and I was just cruising, so I knew that I was having a strong swim. 'Sullivan's Crossing' Season 3: Chad Michael Murray, Morgan Kohan tackle relationship tension
In Sullivan's Crossing Season 3, Episode 6, things get heated between Cal (Chad Michael Murray) and Maggie (Morgan Kohan). After she told Cal that she didn't want to move in with him, the question is whether their relationship will last. Additionally, it's an uphill battle for Rob (Reid Price), who has to fix up the lodge in just two weeks when the health and safety officer returns. But additional snags make Rob's dream diner look almost impossible to achieve. Starting with the lodge, Jacob (Joel Oulette) is able to identify that there's "wet rot," a fungus that gets into wood when it's damp. Rob has to replace the infected parts and treat the rest to make sure it doesn't spread. But things get worse when they find a giant water stain on the floor, meaning all the plumbing has to be replaced. Luckily, Cooper (Steve Lund) agrees to have the guys from the fire station help at the lodge, so Rob can, hopefully, make the two-week deadline. But when one of the firefighters gets stomach pain, can't breathe and eventually develops a rash, the question is whether there's possibly something at the lodge that caused the reaction. Sully (Scott Patterson) is feeling guilty about not checking the condition of the lodge before promising the space to Rob. But when Helen (Kate Vernon) comes over to comfort him, she convinces Sully to take a yoga class to ease his mind, as much as possible. On the way back from the class, Helen probes about something Sully's wanted to do that can push him out of his comfort zone. Sully reveals that he's always wanted to try ballroom dancing, and she recommends they look into taking classes together. Meanwhile, Edna (Andrea Menard) is facing her own medical issues. After experiencing possible menopause symptoms, she finally goes to see a doctor about hot flashes, feeling anxious and getting headaches. But when she gets there, the doctor is quite dismissive, saying that she didn't book a physical and she should make an appointment with an OBGYN. Frank (Tom Jackson) is furious about how she was treated, but following that appointment, Edna tells him she's thinking about retiring. Now on to the tense relationship between Cal and Maggie. While Maggie wants to have a conversation with Cal about where they stand, he's more interested in channelling the awkwardness into fixing the lodge. Eventually talking, Maggie says she feels Cal has "some things to work out" before they move in together, but Cal questions whether it's really him that's the problem. At the hospital, following the incident with the firefighter who was working on the lodge, Cal says he thought that they were going to move their relationship forward. And says Maggie isn't being honest to herself about why she doesn't want to move in with him. "I think there's something you're holding back, Maggie," Cal says. "And until you figure that out, I just don't think there's anything left to talk about." Maggie tries to talks to Sully about it, but they're interrupted when Helen, who's coming out of the shower at Sully's place, comes downstairs. Then, while Maggie thought her mom was calling, it was Walter (Peter Outerbridge) on the line. Maggie calls him out for telling her that her father didn't want to have anything to do with her. "I was just trying to protect you, Maggie," he says in response, adding that he thinks she should be moving back to Boston to continue to pursue her career as a surgeon. Maggie stresses that she didn't leave Boston because of Walter, the Crossing is her home. But that conversation was enough to go back to Cal, running to his house in the rain. Maggie tells Cal he was right, she hasn't been honest with herself. "I'm scared of making a mistake," Maggie says. "I'm scared of losing myself." "I spent my entire life trying to be perfect, trying to prove that I was someone worth loving, and I am scared that if we do this that you're going to wake up one day and realize that I'm not what you want." "I know how hard it is for you to let yourself trust someone, " Cal says in response. "I need you to give me a chance. Give us a chance. I love you, Maggie. I just want to make you happy. If you'll let me." And some passionate making out, and a little more, implies that things end up OK between the show's star couple. Speaking of romance, Jacob and Lola (Amalia Williamson) spend more time together, as she helps him with his research on lichens. That's when they share their first kiss. But the shut down mine they were waiting out the storm in seems to collapse to end the episode. Hopefully they're OK when we see the new couple next week.
