Visakhapatnam Metro Rail Project to Begin Construction by October 2025, Confirms AP Minister
Andhra Pradesh Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister Narayana announced that preparations are being made to launch the Visakhapatnam Metro Rail Project by October. He stated that a comprehensive Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been prepared, with plans to construct the metro using a double-decker model.
The minister also said that efforts are in progress to make the Bhogapuram International Airport operational by April next year, and directed officials to ensure timely completion.
On Wednesday, a review meeting was held at the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) office regarding development across the Uttarandhra districts. The meeting included Speaker Chintakayala Ayyanna Patrudu, Minister Kondapalli Srinivas, Mayor Peela Srinivasa Rao, VMRDA Chairman Pranav Gopal, and other public representatives.
Speaking to the media, Minister Narayana said that 15 roads connecting to Bhogapuram Airport would be completed on a priority basis. He mentioned that between 2014 and 2019, the government had proposed 7 lakh TIDCO houses across the state, but the previous administration failed to complete even 2 lakh houses. He assured that these houses would be handed over to beneficiaries by Dussehra.
The review also included discussions on VMRDA's long-term development plans, the Visakhapatnam–Kakinada Petroleum, Chemicals, and Petrochemicals Investment Region (VK PCPIR), and the master plan for the merged mandals.

Development of MIG layouts and new housing layouts
Construction of a semi-ring road from Rambilli in Anakapalli district to Bhogapuram in Vizianagaram district, passing through Visakhapatnam district
The meeting was attended by Vizianagaram MP Bellana Appalanaidu, MLAs Ganta Srinivasa Rao, Bandaru Satyanarayana Murthy, Velagapudi Ramakrishna Babu, Vishnukumar Raju, Vamsikrishna Srinivas, Panchakarla Ramesh Babu, Aditi Gajapathi Raju, Lokam Nagamadhavi, Kolla Lalitha Kumari, and others.

MSRDC Proposes 10-Lane Upgrade For Mumbai-Pune Expressway To Ease Growing Traffic

The move comes as a long-term solution to tackle increasing congestion on one of India's busiest and most expensive expressways. 'This is an upgrade from our earlier proposal to make it an eight-lane facility. The latest plan will cost around Rs 1,420 crore," said Anilkumar Gaikwad, MSRDC Vice-Chairman and Managing Director, on Friday. Gaikwad told The Times of India that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) is being finalised and will be submitted to the state government for approval. The Mumbai-Pune Expressway, India's first and oldest access-controlled expressway, was inaugurated in 2002 and stretches 94.6 km. Built by the MSRDC at an initial cost of about Rs 1.63 lakh crore, the expressway connects Mumbai with Pune — a key educational and industrial hub in Maharashtra. Currently, the expressway sees around 65,000 vehicles on weekdays and over 1 lakh on weekends. With traffic volume growing by nearly 5–6% each year, MSRDC believes that expanding the corridor is essential to keep pace with demand. Presently, a trip between the two cities takes about two hours under normal conditions, but weekend congestion often extends travel time by an hour. The proposed expansion is expected to reduce this delay significantly, offering smoother travel even during peak periods. The total estimated cost for the entire widening project is Rs 14,260 crore, with construction costs alone around Rs 8,440 crore. Interestingly, MSRDC plans to fund the project through toll collections instead of relying on government funds. 'We will bank on toll collection," Gaikwad said, adding that the financing model — either Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) or annuity — will be decided later. The current toll agreement is valid until 2045, and MSRDC may seek an extension if the expansion is approved. Uttam vows to intensify battle against AP's ‘illegal' Banakacherla project
HYDERABAD The Telangana government will intensify its determined fight against the Polavaram (Godavari)-Banakacherla (Krishna-Penna) Link Scheme proposed by Andhra Pradesh to protect Telangana's river water rights,, Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy Reddy said on Friday. He stated that the State Government had written multiple letters to the Centre already highlighting the serious violations by AP and demanding immediate intervention. In a letter to Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil on January 22, he had explained how AP was going ahead with the Banakacherla project to divert Godavari water to Rayalaseema and South Coastal Andhra by proposing a 150 tmc ft capacity reservoir at Bollapalli in Guntur district. In an informal interaction with the media, he pointed out that the project was unveiled by AP during a press conference on December 29 last year without submitting a Detailed Project Report (DPR) or seeking any mandatory approvals. He stressed that AP had not obtained technical clearances from the Central Water Commission (CWC) and approvals from the Godavari River Management Board (GRMB), Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) and the Apex Council, as mandated by the AP Reorganisation Act 2014. 'No project on inter-state rivers could proceed without these approvals. AP is brazenly bypassing all statutory mechanisms,' Mr. Reddy said and accused AP of misusing Sections 46(2) and 46(3) of the APRA 2014 to seek funds from the Union Finance Ministry under the backward regions development clause. He made it clear that these sections could not override Part IX of the Act, which deals with inter-state river water management, requiring technical clearance, inter-state consultations and Apex Council approval before proceeding with any project. He noted that AP's project was also violating the Godavari Water Disputes Tribunal (GWDT) Award of 1980, which apportioned 966 tmc ft water to Telangana out of a total of 1,486 tmc ft. Mr. Reddy alleged that AP was trying to grab unquantified and unallocated 'flood waters' that belong to both the States. 'These so-called 'flood waters' are not extra water that AP can claim. They are subject to equitable sharing and any diversion directly impacts Telangana's drought-prone regions', he said adding that he had mentioned all these aspects in his letters too. Stating that AP had neither shared any proposal with Telangana nor provided any DPR for scrutiny by the relevant boards. He noted that AP had not sent the project's DPR along with its multiple letters to the Union Finance Ministry and the Ministry of Jal Shakti seeking funds and termed it an an attempt to mislead the Centre and push the project without scrutiny. He also faulted the previous Bharat Rashtra Samith (BRS) Government for keeping quiet on the Rayalseema Lift Irrigation Project and expansion of the Pothireddypadu Head Regulator (PRP). Harish Rao rebutted Mr. Uttam Reddy stating that it was the BRS Government that had secured a National Green Tribunal (NGT) stay order on RLIP and it was the Telangana Congress leaders who had kept quiet when late Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy had expanded the capacity of PRP four times officially in 2007.

OHPC signs agreement with WAPCOS for management consultancy services of 600 MW UIPSP
Bhubaneswar, June 6 (UNI) Odisha Hydro Power Corporation Ltd (OHPC) and WAPCOS Ltd on Friday signed an agreement for project management consultancy services for the 600 MW Upper Indravati Pumped Storage Project (UIPSP) at Mukhiguda. The Detailed Project Report for the UIPSP has been prepared by WAPCOS. Essentially, it is a large Energy Storage System that pumps water from the lower to the upper reservoir during periods of surplus power availability in the grid. This water is then released to generate electricity during peak power demand. OHPC is constructing a 600 MW Pumped Storage Project near its existing 600 MW Upper Indravati Hydro Electric Project. 'This collaboration marks a crucial step in advancing Odisha's energy sector while ensuring efficiency and sustainability,' said Deputy Chief Minister K V Singh Deo,who also holds the energy portfolio. He further stated that the proposed PSP will have an underground powerhouse located near the lower reservoir, equipped with four vertical-axis reversible-type Francis hydroelectric units, each with a capacity of 150 MW (i.e., 4 x 150 = 600 MW). The system will operate in both pumping and generating modes at different times of the day by circulating water between the two reservoirs.
