Elton John's New No. 1 Album Is Different From His Past Chart-Toppers

Elton John is back at No. 1 in the United States, as the legendary performer claims another chart-topping title this week thanks to Who Believes in Angels?, a collaborative effort with fellow Grammy winner Brandi Carlile. The brand new full-length arrives as a success across a number of rankings, launching atop several Billboard tallies – and this latest champion is different from his previous rulers.
Who Believes in Angels? launches at No. 1 on both the Top Rock & Alternative Albums and Top Rock Albums charts. In both cases, the set gives John his second leader on each ranking.
The only other time the hitmaker has managed to conquer these rock-based tallies was with Diamonds, a compilation of some of the pianist's biggest and best-known singles. That's certainly a worthy achievement, but seeing a studio album comprised entirely of new material rise to the top — especially one released this late into a career that spans more than half a century — is something else entirely.
John's Diamonds previously hit No. 1 on both the Top Rock & Alternative Albums and Top Rock Albums charts, underlining the continued appeal of his classic catalog. But while a hits collection has a built-in advantage thanks to both name recognition and all-but-guaranteed streaming numbers, it's far more impressive to see an artist climb to the top with brand new music.
Who Believes in Angels? is John's first proper album to lead these two rosters – a stat that might come as a surprise to those who have been following the star's career for years.
Over the years, John has come close to the top of both the Top Rock Albums and Top Rock & Alternative Albums charts with several other releases, but he's often just missed the mark. He's now scored six top 10 placements on each list, and in a few instances, he's been edged out by just a spot or two.
His collaboration with Leon Russell, The Union, stalled at No. 2. Nearly two decades ago, Rocket Man: Number Ones, another hits-packed compilation, peaked at No. 3.
Beyond the rock-centric tallies, Who Believes in Angels? also enjoys a lofty start on several additional Billboard albums charts. It opens at No. 2 on the Top Album Sales list, narrowly missing the peak position. On the Vinyl Albums ranking, the full-length opens at No. 3.
Perhaps most notably, the project breaks into the top 10 on the Billboard 200, settling in at No. 9. That gives both John and Carlile yet another top-tier placement on the all-genre ranking of the most-consumed albums and EPs in the U.S.—and for John, it adds one more impressive feat to an already legendary resume.

Miley Cyrus Says Disney Stopped Her from Singing ‘Hannah Montana' Songs After Series Ended: ‘Not Like I Wanted to'

Miley Cyrus is opening up about her music career after leaving Hannah Montana behind. In a recent interview on The Ringer podcast, the 32-year-old pop star and actress revealed that following the end of the hit Disney Channel series in 2011, she was banned from performing any songs associated with the teen sitcom. 'It's not like I wanted to, I mean performing 'The Best Of Both Worlds' between 'We Can't Stop' and 'Wrecking Ball,' wouldn't have really made sense.' But it wasn't easy being cut off from music so tied to her early identity. 'It was still sad knowing those songs have my voice, my face, and I wasn't allowed to sing them,' she said. That changed in August 2024, when Cyrus was officially inducted as a Disney Legend during a ceremony at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. 'After being inducted as a Disney Legend, I was given permission to perform those songs in the future, which is pretty cool,' she told The Ringer. Hannah Montana debuted in March 2006 and quickly became a cultural phenomenon, premiering to a record-breaking 5.4 million viewers, the highest in Disney Channel's history at the time. Cyrus, then 13 years old, played Miley Stewart, a teenager living a secret double life as a Malibu student by day and global pop star by night. Under her TV alter ego, Cyrus charted 20 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 as Hannah Montana. 'He Could Be the One' became the biggest hit, reaching the top 10 in 2009. The show's theme song, 'The Best of Both Worlds,' also made the chart, reaching No. 92 in 2006. Cyrus also earned three No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200 as Hannah Montana: Hannah Montana, Hannah Montana 2/Meet Miley Cyrus, and Hannah Montana: The Movie soundtrack. In a heartfelt letter posted to her website—prompted by a recent Instagram post encouraging fans to read it—Swift shared some significant personal news. At the core of the letter was the exciting news that she has regained full ownership of all her masters and music, a long-awaited milestone she has been working toward for years. She purchased her masters for roughly $360 million, according to Billboard. Additionally, Swift revealed a major update about her self-titled debut album, Taylor Swift. She has officially completed the re-recording of the entire album, which will be titled "Taylor Swift (Taylor's Version)," which will likely include all 16 original tracks. 'I've already completely re-recorded my entire debut album, and I really love how it sounds now," Swift said. "Those 2 albums can still have their moments to re-emerge when the time is right, if that would be something you guys would be excited about. But if it happens, it won't be from a place of sadness and longing for what I wish I could have. It will just be a celebration now.' While there's no official release date yet, fans were instantly ecstatic to learn that the 35-year-old has added her signature touch to the debut album that first put her on the map back in 2006. Miley Cyrus hid cost of drugs from accountant by disguising them as vintage clothing purchases

Miley Cyrus concealed the cost of drugs from her accountant during the making of her 2015 album by disguising them as high-end vintage clothing purchases. The 32-year-old singer and songwriter, whose battles with drink and drugs have been well-documented, made the admission during an appearance on the Every Single Album podcast. Speaking about the period surrounding her experimental album Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz, Miley said: 'We called (drug purchases) vintage clothes. And every time (my accountant) saw me, she'd be like, 'Where's that, like, $15,000 original John Lennon T-shirt that you bought?' 'It's like, 'Oh, it's upstairs.' So I bought a lot of vintage clothes that year.' The Grammy-winning artist went on to explain to avoid suspicion, she would tell her accountant the garments were 'really delicate' and needed to be stored away to 'protect' them. She added: 'I'm so glad I survived that time in my life. I would definitely not encourage anyone else to go this hard, but the fact that I got through it, I'm very glad I got to do it.' Miley, who rose to prominence as a Disney Channel star before launching a highly successful music career, has long been candid about her relationship with drugs. In a 2013 interview with Rolling Stone, she said: 'Hollywood is a coke town, but weed is so much better. And molly, too. Those are happy drugs – social drugs. They make you want to be with friends. You're out in the open. You're not in a bathroom.' In 2017, she revealed she had gotten sober after rekindling her relationship with then-partner Liam Hemsworth. She told Billboard magazine: 'I haven't smoked weed in three weeks, which is the longest I've ever (gone without it,) I'm not doing drugs, I'm not drinking, I'm completely clean right now!' But in November 2020, Miley acknowledged that she had relapsed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Speaking publicly at the time, she confirmed the setback but said she had resumed sobriety within two weeks. Miley has also recently been in the headlines over a rumoured rift with her country-rock singer father Billy Ray Cyrus, but other reports have said the two have quietly reconciled.
