Brad Marchand a little surprised to be going back to Stanley Cup Final with Panthers
Brad Marchand is heading back to the Stanley Cup Final, but the former Boston Bruins captain admitted Wednesday night it will be a little odd to do so in a Florida Panthers sweater.
Marchand and the Panthers clinched a trip to the Stanley Cup Final on Wednesday night with a 5-3 win over the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals. Marchand had a hand in Florida's comeback victory (the Panthers trailed 2-0 early) with a nice helper on Anton Lundell's second-period goal, which gave Florida a 3-2 lead at the time.
Carolina's Seth Jarvis tied it 3-3 about midway through the third period, but a Carter Verhaeghe goal at a few minutes later and an empty-netter by Sam Bennett in the final minute gave Florida the win and secured it's third straight trip to the Cup Final.

Marchand was traded to Florida in Boston's deadline day fire sale, and is now heading to the biggest stage in hockey for the fourth time of his 16-year career. He won a Stanley Cup with the Bruins in 2011 as a rookie when he tallied 11 goals (including a postseason-high 10 even-strength goals) and eight assists. He also went to the Cup Final with Boston in 2013 and 2019, but the Bruins lost to the Chicago Blackhawks and St. Louis Blues, respectively.
The 37-year-old Marchand admitted Wednesday night in a postgame interview with TNT's Jackie Redmond this latest trip to the Cup Final has an odd -- but welcome -- feeling to it.
"It's special. I've been around for a while and you realize how few opportunities you have to be a part of something special like this. Just enjoying every moment and enjoying the opportunity," began Marchand. "You're right, I definitely didn't expect to be here in this jersey. But I'm very happy I am."

Marchand said celebrating Wednesday had an odd feeling, but it was not because of the uniform he was wearing. The Panthers were happy to enjoy the moment, but their goal isn't to just make it back to the Stanley Cup Final.
"We're excited to be going to the Final, but the job isn't done," said Marchand. "It just feels like we ended any other series and there's still a job to do."
The Bruins received a conditional 2027 second-round pick for Marchand in their March 7 swap with the Panthers. But the conditions of the trade have been met with Marchand's solid play in the postseason, and Boston will now receive a 2027 or 2028 first-round selection from the Panthers.
In his playoff run with the Panthers, Marchand has scored four goals and dished out 10 assists over his 17 games. He's been a huge hit with his new team both on and off the ice, and had endeared himself to Florida fans and his teammates alike.
Panthers fans celebrate wins by tossing plastic rats on the ice, and Panthers players have taken it a step further with Marchand, firing the plastic rodents at their teammate in a playful fashion. Like his new fanbase and teammates, Marchand loves it.
2025 Stanley Cup Final
The Florida Panthers are going for a second straight Stanley Cup Championship, after beating the Edmonton Oilers in seven games in the 2024 Stanley Cup Final.
Hockey fans might be treated to a rematch this summer, as the Oilers currently lead the Dallas Stars, 3-1, in the Western Conference Finals. Game 6 of that series is Thursday night in Dallas.

Tennessee dominates Florida 11-3 in Women's College World Series elimination game
OKLAHOMA CITY -- Alannah Leach had two hits and knocked in four runs, and Tennessee rolled past Florida 11-3 in a Women's College World Series elimination game on Friday night. Tennessee (46-16) pounded out 12 hits and set a record for its highest run total in a World Series game. The seventh-seeded Volunteers advanced to play the loser of Saturday's Texas Tech vs. UCLA game in an elimination game on Sunday. Third-seeded Florida (48-17), a national semifinalist last year, was knocked out in two games. Tennessee lost its World Series opener to Oklahoma on a walk-off home run by Ella Parker on Thursday. Tennessee coach Karen Weekly said her team responded well after the disappointing loss. 'This morning when I walked into breakfast, it was all laughter and noise and joking and smiles, and you never would have known what happened last night,' Weekly said. Todd Chrisley admits he got special treatment in prison over Black inmates: 'We know why I wasn't denied that'
Todd Chrisley is speaking out about the injustices he says he witnessed while incarcerated. The former Chrisley Knows Best star, who was released from prison on Wednesday following a pardon from President Trump, discussed his experience at Pensacola Federal Prison Camp during a press conference on Friday. "I have met some wonderful men. I have listened to some horrific stories about things that have gone on in our system," Chrisley said. "I will continue to fight for all of the guys that I dealt with and that I was blessed to be with at FPC Pensacola. I will continue to expose the injustices that go on there and throughout the Bureau of Prisons." Chrisley went on to claim that the alleged injustices he witnessed were racially motivated. "Being in the prison system, anyone that says that it's a fair shake — it's not," he said. "Because I dealt with young African-American males in the prison that I was in that were not treated the same." The reality star implied that he was afforded better treatment than Black inmates due to white privilege. "They were denied programming. They were denied access to certain things," he said. "I was not denied that, but we know why I wasn't denied that. And so I think that that is a much bigger picture that we all as a society as a whole need to look at: that we are one." A representative for Pensacola Federal Prison Camp did not immediately respond to Entertainment Weekly's request for comment. Chrisley's daughter, Savannah, also appeared at the press conference and said that her family members would dedicate themselves to fighting for prison reform. "We're gonna be in D.C., and Mom and Dad are now along for the ride, because we're not leaving those men and women behind," she said. "There's too much work that needs to be done. There's too much reform that needs to be done." Todd Chrisley and his wife, Julie, were indicted in 2019 for bank fraud and tax evasion, and were eventually convicted in 2022 and sentenced to a combined 19 years in prison. They have maintained their innocence during and after their conviction. At the press conference, Chrisley suggested that his conviction was an example of the flaws in the justice system. "Even though this pardon has happened, I still was convicted of something that I did not do," he claimed. "It could be you. It could be any of you. And somewhere in this room, someone has had a family member who has been affected by this system. I understand the shame that's around it, but I refuse to feed into that because shame is like a cancer that just spreads, and I have no shame."The Chrisleys are set to return to the small screen in an untitled Lifetime reality series, which Savannah said had wrapped filming prior to the pardon but resumed once her parents were freed. While Todd's son, Chase Chrisley, said that he wasn't sure if his parents would want to be involved in future TV endeavors, the family's patriarch implied that he and Julie would appear on a new show in some capacity at the press conference. "We're blessed to have our family back, and we're blessed to be coming back to television, because we do have a much bigger story to tell than we ever have," Todd Chrisley said.
