England and Bristol Bears centre Reed retires
Bristol Bears centre Amber Reed, who was part of England's World Cup-winning squad in 2014, has retired.Reed, who could also play fly-half, won 67 caps for the Red Roses after making her international debut in 2012.The 33-year-old also won Grand Slams, Six Nations titles and the WXV1 with England but was overlooked for this year's Women's Six Nations squad, having not featured since John Mitchell took charge of the side.The Bristol-born centre has spent her entire senior career with her hometown club and her final game was Bears' Premiership Women's Rugby semi-final defeat by eventual champions Gloucester-Hartpury."After 16 seasons and nearly 200 appearances for club and country, it's time for me to hang up my boots and bring an end to my playing career," said Reed."From gracing the school sevens field, all the way to winning the World Cup and everything in between, it's been one helluva ride!"Through every success and failure I've encountered throughout my career, I can say that I've always given 100% for myself, my team and the supporters. As my younger self looking into the future, it fills me with immense happiness that I can step away from the field knowing that I gave it my all every time and I have no regrets."To the fans: Thank you for being incredible. Scotland's Angus Gunn keen to find right club to give him World Cup launchpad
The 29-year-old, who was Steve Clarke's number one at Euro 2024, is currently a free agent after Norwich opted not to extend his four-year stint at Carrow Road. Gunn is weighing up his options for the season ahead and he knows the importance of making the right decision about his future given that Scotland will be aiming to qualify for the World Cup in USA, Mexico and Canada in just over a year. 'Obviously, the transfer window has just opened, so that's just started,' he said, speaking at a media conference after joining up with the Scotland squad for the friendlies against Iceland and Liechtenstein. 'There are a few conversations happening, but I don't want to rush into anything. 'First and foremost, I want to come away and focus on this camp first. Then, I think after that, decisions will be made. 'Obviously, it's definitely a big factor that there's a qualifying campaign coming up for the World Cup in America. That's definitely a big focus for me. It's something that will be in the back of my mind when I make the decision. That's definitely in my thinking. 'There's a lot of factors. Obviously, I'm a bit older now, a bit more experienced and I know the game. I've got a young family as well and I want to look after them. 'At the same time, I've got aspirations in my career and the World Cup is definitely one of them. To reach that would definitely be the pinnacle.' Gunn expressed sadness last month over the nature of his Norwich departure, but he insisted he is now looking ahead with excitement. 'Yes, I'm over it,' he said. 'It was something that I felt personally they could have handled better. But ultimately, I think the decision was probably the right one from both sides for me to move on and go somewhere else in my career. I'm really excited for it.' Gunn was number one throughout the Euro 2024 campaign before a minor injury sustained in October paved the way for 42-year-old Craig Gordon to reclaim the gloves for the last six Scotland matches. The Hearts keeper picked up an injury himself towards the end of the season, meaning Gunn – whose last cap came in September – has a chance to re-establish himself. 'Last season I had a few injuries which kept me out of the squad, so that was frustrating,' he said. 'Obviously it's good to see Craig back playing at Hearts. He picked the injury up in the last part of the season, but he had a good spell in the team. Things change quickly in football, so you never really know. Hopefully I can get the two caps this week and keep moving forward.' Gordon recently extended his contract with Hearts and looks set to continue vying with Gunn for the gloves as he approaches his 43rd birthday. 'It's unbelievable really,' he said of his rival's longevity. 'You don't see many players going that long. It's testament to him and how he's looked after himself and how much hunger he's got to carry on because as you're getting older, the body's going to feel it. 'For him to still have that hunger to keep going, hopefully I've got that in my head going into the latter part of my career.'

A dream come true – Euro 2022 winner Fran Kirby retires from England duty
The 31-year-old retires on the eve of the Lionesses' upcoming European Championship campaign – which begins in July – and finishes her career with 77 caps and 19 goals. Kirby made her senior debut in August 2014 against Sweden and went on to represent England at four major tournaments, as well as featuring for Team GB at the Tokyo Olympics. She claimed bronze at the 2015 World Cup and started in all of England's games at Euro 2022, scoring two goals along the way as the Lionesses lifted their first major trophy on home soil with victory over Germany in the final at Wembley. Her last outing for England came from the bench during their 6-0 win over Portgual on Friday and she announced her decision following the team's 2-1 defeat by Spain on Tuesday. 'After being in the England team since I was 21, it's time to close that chapter of my life,' Kirby wrote on social media. 'I didn't ever want this day to come, but I cannot tell you how proud I am it happened. It's been the biggest honour to represent my country, one that I had only dreamt about as a young girl. 'I've played with incredible players, worked with some incredible managers, played in some amazing tournaments and have some irreplaceable memories. 'My journey has been full of ups and downs, setbacks and achievements. Enough has been said and written about those, but regardless of whatever was thrown at me, I want you all to know that every time I put on that England badge I gave 100 per cent.
