2026 Nissan Murano Review: Expert Insights, Pricing, and Trims
For the most premium Nissan gas-powered SUV, look no further than the 2026 Murano. The style-forward model was first introduced for 2003 and most recently received a redesign for 2025 that delivered updated looks, power, and refinement. Midsize SUV competitors include the Hyundai Santa Fe, Toyota Crown Signia, and Chevrolet Blazer. What's New
Nissan delivered a new fourth-generation Murano for 2025. For the 2026 Murano, we expect the lineup to expand beyond SV, SL, and Platinum trim levels. Look for the return of an entry-level S or a stylish Midnight Edition model. What We Think
After nearly a decade of only minor changes, the 2026 Nissan Murano offers a fresh design, modern features, and its signature premium feel. Borrowing styling cues from the electric Ariya, the updated midsize SUV wears its new look well.
Inside, the five-passenger 2026 Murano comes with upscale materials and an emphasis on comfort. The top trim provides plush, supportive seating—complete with optional massage function, a rare feature in this class.
Controls are generally intuitive, though some climate settings are tucked into the infotainment system. Overall, the 2025 redesign begins to blur the line between Nissan and its luxury sibling, Infiniti.
On the road, the Murano feels more refined than ever. The ride is smooth, and the interior remains impressively quiet at speed. A new nine-speed automatic transmission replaces the previous CVT automatic, offering more composed performance, though acceleration feels markedly less lively than before. Despite the switch to a smaller engine, fuel economy gains are essentially a wash.
Still, the redesigned Murano's strengths—particularly its elevated cabin and refined dynamics—make it a strong contender in the midsize SUV segment. It's a meaningful upgrade over the outgoing model and positions Nissan's crossover to better compete with the segment's best. Performance and MPGs
Every 2026 Murano features a 2.0-liter turbo-four akin to the one found in the Infiniti QX50 and QX55 small SUVs. Output for the Nissan is rated at 241 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque, and power is sent through a nine-speed automatic .
Fuel economy should be the same whether with standard FWD or available AWD, 21/27 mpg city/highway. That's fair for the segment. What's Included With the Midnight Edition?
Nissan Midnight Edition models are the stylish street-level counterparts to the brand's Rock Creek off-roaders. If a 2026 Murano Midnight Edition returns to the lineup, look for it to follow in the footsteps of the previous iteration.
That Midnight Edition was built on the Murano SV and added 20-inch black wheels as well as a black grille, front and rear lower bumper accents, side mirrors, side trim, badges, and license plate finisher. A Midnight Edition badge, splash guards, and illuminated kick plates were also included.
The 2026 Murano already rolls on standard 20-inch wheels, but we'd expect a flashier wheel with any new Midnight Edition regardless of size. Safety Ratings and Features
The 2026 Nissan Murano is a safe SUV; the model gets a 2025 IIHS Top Safety Pick+, not an easy designation to earn. In NHTSA government testing, the 2025 Murano gets a five-star overall rating.
Standard driver assists include: Forward and reverse automatic emergency braking
Lane keeping assist
A rear cross-traffic alert
Blind-spot monitoring with intervention
Adaptive cruise control
Hill start assist
ProPilot Assist 1.1 is standard on the top Murano trims, but this is the earliest version of the self-driving technology and requires hands-on operation (newer versions of ProPilot Assist on other models are hands-free). Cargo Space and Interior Room
Compared to rivals from Toyota and Chevy, the Murano delivers more first-row legroom and standard cargo capacity. The Nissan trails in maximum hold volume, though. Technology
Big screens are standard with the Murano, namely a 12.3-inch driver display and identically sized infotainment interface. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, active noise cancellation, a wireless phone charger, and capacitive-touch climate controls are also included with each SUV.
The Murano's infotainment runs on Google's built-in operating system, giving users access to Google Maps, Google Assistant, and the Google Play Store directly through the infotainment screen. Optional upgrades include ventilated and massaging front seats, heated rear seats, a 10-speaker Bose sound system, and hands-free power liftgate. Value
Recommended Trim
The 2026 Nissan Murano will likely be available with three to five trims this year. Look for the SV, SL, and Platinum models to return, as well as new affordable S and chic Midnight Edition variants to possibly join the family.
The Platinum top trim is a compelling variation, a substantial upgrade relative to the previous model and the Murano we'd choose if we had our way. Pricing for the 2026 Murano Platinum starts at just over $50,000 but feels plenty premium and spacious for that amount of cash. Other Midsize SUVs: Honda Passport
Hyundai Santa Fe
Mazda CX-70

Trump Is Turning the US Into an Electric Vehicle Laggard
(Bloomberg) -- President Donald Trump's efforts to unravel policies supporting electric vehicles threatens to turn the US into a laggard for years to come, according to a new report. Security Concerns Hit Some of the World's 'Most Livable Cities' How E-Scooters Conquered (Most of) Europe As Part of a $45 Billion Push, ICE Prepares for a Vast Expansion of Detention Space Taser-Maker Axon Triggers a NIMBY Backlash in its Hometown JFK AirTrain Cuts Fares 50% This Summer to Lure Riders Off Roads BloombergNEF reduced both its near- and long-term EV outlook for the first time, cutting 14 million battery-powered cars from its sales projections through 2030 due to the US rollback. The researcher now sees the country trailing not only China and Europe, but also the global average adoption rate until 2040. 'Global EV sales are growing, but the national picture is more varied than ever,' BNEF analysts write in the report released Wednesday. Whereas China is expected to account for nearly two-thirds of the almost 22 million plug-in vehicles sold globally this year, in part thanks to government incentives, 'all major EV policies in the US are under fire.' Trump ordered the elimination of subsidies and other measures boosting electric vehicles during his first day back in the White House in January. His administration and the Republican-controlled Congress are heeding his directive by moving to ease national fuel-economy standards, phase out EV tax credits and strip California's ability to set its own emissions limits. BNEF's outlook assumes national gas-mileage and tailpipe regulations will revert back to where they were during Trump's first term, and that the up-to-$7,500 consumer tax credit will end for most EVs after this year. There's potential for further downside to the researcher's outlook for EV sales in the US, depending on the ultimate fate of waivers allowing states to impose more stringent clean-air rules. A coalition of states led by California Attorney General Rob Bonta sued last week to challenge the administration's move to scrap state-level policies. 'If this attempt at revoking the waiver is successful, it would have dire consequences for EV sales in California, and because of the state's oversized influence on the EV market in the country, in whole of the US,' BNEF says. 'Removing all of the supply-side mandates in the country, at the same time as demand incentives, would push down EV sales in the US sharply.' China, by contrast, is expected to keep up its momentum in transitioning to plug-in vehicles, largely due to simple economics: It's the only large market where EVs are cheaper, on average, than comparable combustion cars. Demand also is getting a boost from the government extending subsidies that encourage consumers to trade in older cars for new EVs and hybrids. BNEF predicts the country's electric vehicle market will be larger than the total US car market within the next year. 'China is emerging as a major electric vehicle manufacturing powerhouse,' BNEF says in its report, estimating that the country accounted for just shy of 70% of worldwide EV production last year. China's dominance of EV manufacturing and the battery supply chain contributed to rising trade tensions and increased tariffs since BNEF last published its annual outlook. The European Union imposed duties on imports of battery-electric vehicles from China for five years starting in October, with added tariffs ranging from 35% for MG maker SAIC Motor Corp. to 7.8% for Tesla Inc. 'Policymakers face growing tension between environmental targets and other competing policy priorities, and as a result many automakers have reduced previously announced EV goals or quietly shelved them,' BNEF says in its report, citing walk-backs by manufacturers including Toyota, Ford, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo. In addition to taking measures to protect domestic manufacturers from cheaper EVs imported from China, the EU relaxed its CO2 emissions standards by sparing manufacturers from likely fines this year and allowing companies to meet tougher targets more gradually. As a result of the change, BNEF cut its forecast for electric vehicle sales in affected markets from this year through 2027 by about 19%, or roughly 2.6 million cars. The UK — which left the EU in 2020 and has maintained relative openness to Chinese imports — has emerged as the leading major market for electric vehicles after China. BNEF expects plug-in cars to reach 40% share of the UK market by next year. iOS 26 Will Radically Reshape the Look and Feel of Apple CarPlay. Learn All the New Free Features Coming Soon
Originally called "iOS in the Car," Apple's CarPlay has come a long way in the last decade. It now supports iPhone connections for more than 800 different models of cars and motorcycles. It's also about to go through a massive redesign with a bevy of new features. Apple is updating the CarPlay experience with the newly revealed iOS 26. Apple announced the changes during its annual WWDC event in Cupertino, California, on June 9. Apple's iPhone-compatible automobile operating system is used more than 600 million times per day, according to the tech giant. The entire CarPlay system is getting a refresh, including icons in light and dark modes, widgets to give you "quick and glanceable ways to get information" while you're on the move and live activities like flight statuses. WWDC 2025: Everything Revealed in 10 Minutes "We've also added new features to help keep you connected while driving, like a compact design when you get a call, so you can still see what's on the screen, like your upcoming directions, along with tap backs and pinned conversations in messages," Apple's Emily Schubert said during the WWDC keynote. There are also now vehicle controls in Apple CarPlay, including radio and climate controls. You can use Apple CarPlay to control the climate in your car. Screenshot by CNET Footage from Apple during the keynote also showed you can send emoji reactions to messages while on the go, without navigating away from your driving directions. You can also see things like calendar reminders and smart home controls in widgets on the side of the display. Apple launched CarPlay Ultra last month, bringing more customized features for automakers to include. "It provides information for all of the driver's screens, including real-time content and gauges in the instrument cluster, while reflecting the automaker's look and feel and offering drivers a customizable experience," Apple said in a blog post in May. All the new CarPlay features coming in iOS 26 Here's a roundup of the major new features that will be added to CarPlay with the launch of iOS 26. Liquid Glass design Just like an iPhone with iOS 26, CarPlay will get the same translucent design overhaul Apple is calling Liquid Glass, with buttons that add a feel of depth. CarPlay icons may not have the same moving effect as on your iPhone, but they'll have the same shiny, glass-like appearance. Compact view One of the most welcome new features of CarPlay with iOS 26 is a new view that doesn't interrupt your navigation when phone calls arrive. Instead of taking over the whole screen, incoming calls will now appear in a smaller windows at the bottom, so you'll be able to see turn-by-turn directions. During navigation, phone calls will now pop-up in a much smaller window at the bottom of the display. Apple/Screenshot by Joe Maldonado/CNET New features in Messages Messages on CarPlay with iOS 26 will add the ability to respond with tapbacks like thumbs up, thumbs down, a heart or exclamation marks. It will also let you pin messages to the top of the interface. New incidents to report in Maps Maps will soon add three new incident types to report in CarPlay. Along with the existing accidents, speed checks and hazards, the iOS 26 update will also include roadwork, road closures and traffic. Video streaming while parked The new CarPlay with iOS 26 will let your stream videos to your car's screen from your iPhone using AirPlay. As soon as your car starts moving, the feature should be disabled. Whether or not you'll be able to stream video may depend on your car model. Live Activities and widgets New Live Activities in CarPlay will provide real-time information while you drive. Apple/Screenshot by Joe Maldonado/CNET Using CarPlay with iOS 26, the same widgets you have on your iPhone should work in your car. Widgets are currently only availble via Apple's premium version of the service, CarPlay Ultra. You'll also soon be able to see real-time updates and info from Live Activities like flight trackers. Smart Display Zoom When this new feature is enabled in CarPlay with iOS 26, the CarPlay interface will be automatically resized to best use the available screen space, no matter its size. For example a smaller screen will reduce the size of the icons so that two rows of app icons can fit properly.
