Louisiana veteran gifted service dog and $5,000 grant

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS)—Thanks to the American Warrior Intuitive, a local veteran is getting a new lease on life: a service dog.
Retired master sergeant Eric Griffin was surprised with a $5,000 grant to help car for his his fully trained service animal.

He says this new sense of protection is crucial for veterans living with ptsd and hypervigilance. Griffin believes this partnership is more than a gesture; it's a lifeline to gain a sense of normalcy.
'Very emotional and it means a lot and to see all these people giving their all for people I'm not good at receiving, but it's wonderful, and it's giving me a little fond love for this country,' said service dog recipient, Eric Griffin.
The American Warrior Intuitive has gifted over 40 dogs and millions in aid for veterans.

Commissioner and Vietnam veteran Ken Epperson of District 12 read a special proclamation recognizing the upcoming anniversary and reviewing its history. He explained that on June 14, 1775, General George Washington and the Second Continental Congress established the Continental Army, marking the birth of the United States Army and laying the foundation for the nation's military defense. LSA Deputy of the Year awarded to Caddo Parish Sheriff's deputy 'With the primary objective of defending the Constitution of the United States of America. Not a king, not a monarchy, not an individual. So I want us all to remember that,' Epperson said. Commissioner Epperson also read all the names of current Caddo Parish employees who served. He then listed the many inventions and breakthroughs made by the U.S. Army over the past 250 years, from roads and bridges built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers after the Revolution to medical advancements made during the Civil War to the invention of mosquito repellent, the EpiPen, and Ray-Ban sunglasses. BPCC sees record number of dual enrollment graduates

BOSSIER PARISH, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — A record number of high school students have earned degrees through Bossier Parish Community College's dual-enrollment program. Disney on Ice to debut characters from 'Moana 2' and 'Inside Out 2' The dual enrollment program enables eligible students to earn college credits before they graduate from high school. According to BPCC, 112 high school students from North Louisiana graduated from the college. The most popular programs among these graduates included an associate degree in general studies, electrician technology, emergency medical technician training, nursing assistant, and welding. 'This achievement highlights the incredible opportunities that dual enrollment provides, and we couldn't be prouder, ' said Jamie Hilburn, BPCC's dual enrollment coordinator. While many students across the region participated, the most active engagement for the program came from Bienville, Sabine, Natchitoches, and DeSoto parish schools.
