Welcome to Best of Late Night, a rundown of the previous night's highlights that lets you sleep — and lets us get paid to watch comedy. Here are the 50 best movies on Netflix right now.
Young Blood
A young state assemblyman, Zohran Mamdani, is likely to be the Democratic candidate for mayor of New York City after stunning former Gov. Andrew Cuomo in a primary election on Tuesday.
'My seven roommates are never going to believe this,' Jimmy Fallon imagined the 33-year-old candidate saying on Wednesday's 'Tonight Show.'
'Wow, that's a good age, 'cause he knows the meaning of both the spending cap and 'no cap.'' — JIMMY FALLON
'Between his campaign and his billionaire-backed super PACs, Cuomo raised over $36 million, while Mamdani relied on volunteers and a relentlessly positive campaign based on issues that affect everyday New Yorkers, like freezing the rent, no-cost child care and free buses. Sounds pretty good. Sounds pretty good — and I, for one, cannot wait to get my free bus. I'm gonna paint mine like the Scooby-Doo Mystery Machine and then fight ghost crime.' — STEPHEN COLBERT
'According to experts, with this message, Mamdani generated excitement among minority groups and electrified younger voters, while older voters still run on diesel.' — STEPHEN COLBERT
The Punchiest Punchlines (Cuomo Edition)
'Yesterday was New York City's Democratic mayoral primary, and former Governor Andrew Cuomo conceded to state Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani. On the bright side for Cuomo, at least he doesn't have to move to New York City.' — SETH MEYERS
'Mamdani won decisively in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens, while Andrew Cuomo won Staten Island, the Bronx and the secret sixth borough of Groper's Island.' — STEPHEN COLBERT
'During his concession speech, Cuomo said that Mamdani put together a great campaign and added, 'He touched young people and inspired them and got them to come out and vote.' Cuomo's mistake was waiting until after he was elected to touch young people.' — SETH MEYERS
'Yes, that Andrew Cuomo, the same one who sentenced grannies to death in nursing homes during Covid. I guess the senior vote was important after all.' — DANA PERINO, guest host of 'Gutfeld'
'The same Cuomo who resigned in disgrace and blamed his groping tendencies on being Italian, like he was Super Mario popping Cialis instead of mushrooms.' — DANA PERINO
The Bits Worth Watching
Diego Luna, this week's guest host of 'Jimmy Kimmel Live,' and Guillermo Rodriguez tried to cash in on the surge in Americans moving to Mexico with a new business venture, Gring-Go.
What We're Excited About on Thursday Night
The 'Law & Order: Special Victims Unit' star Mariska Hargitay will talk about her intimate new documentary, 'My Mom Jayne,' on 'Late Night with Seth Meyers.'

The GHOSTBUSTERS Universe Reportedly Expanding With New Movie and Animated Projects in the Works — GeekTyrant

The Ghostbusters franchise isn't slowing down anytime soon. According to a new rumor, Sony is quietly building out a slate of new projects that could significantly expand the world of proton packs and paranormal threats across both live-action and animation. The scoop comes from insider MyTimeToShineHello, who posted on X: 'A new Ghostbusters movie is in development at Sony + they are planning a trilogy of animated films and multiple seasons of an animated show.' While this hasn't been officially confirmed by Sony, it tracks with the studio's recent momentum after Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire and the renewed efforts to grow the franchise beyond just films. Director Gil Kenan, who helmed Frozen Empire and co-wrote it with Jason Reitman, recently gave an update on the animated series that's been brewing over at Netflix. On A Trip to the Movies with Alex Zane, Kenan said: 'It's very exciting, I just watched an entire presentation for the show. I've seen the sets and the environments and I just saw my first glimpse of a world of supernatural characters as realized by our brilliant creative team.' He added: 'The work is being done as we speak. It's in what we call, 'full development.' The scripts are being written and art is being created.' This animated series was originally announced back in June 2022 as a partnership between Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation. Development had been paused while Kenan and Reitman focused on their live-action sequels, but now it sounds like things are fully back in motion. Kenan previously said: 'Jason [Reitman]… we take the responsibility and the joy of being the keepers of the flame of Ghostbusters very seriously… we definitely are continuing the conversation of telling big Ghostbuster stories on the big screen. And stay tuned. There'll be more. There'll be more about that later.' When talking about what he'd like to see in these other projects, he said: "I'd love to explore how other cultures, or at least I'd love to see as a fan, how other cultures create specific threats and specific ways to deal with them in future installments." For fans of the franchise, this is a pretty big deal. Ghostbusters has always been more than just the movies — from The Real Ghostbusters in the '80s to Extreme Ghostbusters in the late '90s, the animated side of the universe was a lot of fun. Kenan and Reitman are obviously aiming to tap into that tradition with a fresh, supernatural world built for a new generation. With multiple animated seasons, a possible animated film trilogy, and another live-action movie reportedly in the works, the Ghostbusters brand is lining up for a serious expansion.

Mel Brooks Producing VERY YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN Series Pilot for FX with Taika Waititi Directing — GeekTyrant

It looks like Mel Brooks' monster is getting a new lease on life and this time it will be on the small screen. FX is reportedly close to ordering a pilot for Very Young Frankenstein , a new comedy series inspired by Brooks' 1974 cult classic Young Frankenstein . Brooks himself has given it his blessing and will serve as executive producer, alongside a creative dream team from FX's What We Do in the Shadows . Stefani Robinson is writing and showrunning the series, with Taika Waititi set to direct the pilot. Garrett Basch, Kevin Salter (Brooks' longtime producing partner), and original Young Frankenstein producer Michael Gruskoff are also on board. 20th Television will produce the series. Details are being kept under wraps, but fans of Shadows might remember when Colin Robinson was turned into a baby and had to grow up again. So, there's a chance this new take could include some wild genre-bending antics in that same spirit. No casting news yet, but the tone and team suggest we're in for something clever and twisted. Young Frankenstein parodies the classic Frankenstein mythos with Gene Wilder playing Frederick Frankenstein (that's 'Fronkensteen'), a descendant of Victor Frankenstein who inherits his infamous grandfather's Transylvania estate. With the help of the bug-eyed Igor (Marty Feldman), Frederick sets out to clear the family name… by building his own monster. Naturally, things go hilariously off the rails. Shot in glorious black and white, the original also featured Peter Boyle as the monster, Cloris Leachman as the haunting Frau Blücher, Teri Garr, Madeline Kahn, and Brooks himself in multiple roles. The film remains one of Brooks' most iconic works, blending horror homage with comedic precision. Very Young Frankenstein is just the latest of Brooks' classics to be reimagined for a modern audience. It will be interesting to see how this turns.

More Local News 'I'm looking forward to being on the campaign trail and showing New Yorkers we can't go backwards,' said Adams during a Fox News interview posted to his campaign's social media account.
