One High School Heroes – K-drama Episode 4 Recap & Review
Hero Mask
Episode 4 of One High School Heroes starts where we left off after Seung-sik strangles Ui-Geum until he is unconscious. Seung-ki gets ready to fight the second victim, Yoon-ki, but suddenly Ui-Geum regains consciousness. He warns Seung-ki that if he strangles him again, he will kill him. The second round of their fight starts, and this time Ui-Geum subdues Seung-sik.
Seeing that Seung-sik is about to lose, his friend and fellow gang leader Sung-wook wants to step in, but Yoon-ki stops him. Yoon-ki tells Ui-Geum that since Ji-hyuk, there were two people left to beat, so the fighting can stop. He says that he will take care of the second person.
Yoon-ki is a skilled fighter in hiding. Sung-wook barely lands punches on him while Yoon-ki shows his superior skills. He ends the fight with a round kick called 'fans' benefits.' Seung-ki had paused the battle with Ui-Geum to watch Sung-wook and Yoon-ki's fight. Once it is done, he returns to the ground, saying he will break both their hands to warn anyone who tries to fight against them in the future.
However, Ui-Geum is not easy to beat. He does not let Seung-ki get the upper hand and finishes the fight by copying Yoon-ki's fan benefits round kick. The onlookers are baffled. Ui-Geum then chokes Seung-ki until he is unconscious, reminding him that he had warned that if he put his hands on his neck again, he would kill him.
Ui-Geum and Yoon-ki leave the band room with the warning that the rogue gang is not allowed to conduct their rogue activities at the school ever again.
Elsewhere, Ui-Geum's mother visits a psychiatrist about her panic attacks. She wants to stop getting the panic attacks, so she begs the doctor to help. The doctor tells her to face the emotions she has been avoiding. At home, Da-bin gets the courage to go into Soo-kyum's room without having a panic attack.
At cram school, Ui-Geum loses concentration as his mind wanders to the fight with Seung-ki. The teacher scolds him and does the same thing his father does, pushing his head back with a finger. Ui-Geum stops the teacher who asks him to leave the classroom if he does not want to learn. Ui-Geum chooses to go. At home, his father scolds him more and orders that they will make an apology to the teacher at the cram school the next day. Ui-Geum reluctantly agrees.
Later, Ui-Geum meets up with Yoon-ki. He wants Ui-Geum to join him in a fight against the school bullies, and his next target is from Ui-Geum's former school. Kim Nam-yeop tortures students at the school, but his crimes are easily covered up because his father is a professor at a medical university. Yoon-ki wants Ui-Geum to join him in bringing education back to its roots by dealing with the school bullies.
A student comes to thank Ui-Geum, saying he has no longer been bullied since dealing with Hong-II. Yoon-ki thinks he should not thank Ui-Geum since he was not doing that out of the goodness of his heart. He was only looking for an avenue to let out the pressure he was getting from his father, since he could not stand up to him.
Later, Ui-Geum's father drags him to a party for potential candidates of a renowned medical school, where his brother had been admitted. He meets Nam-yeop, seated at the centre table with his father and the school dean, among other respectable people.
While Ui-Geum's father openly admires Nam-yeop for his outstanding abilities in academics and sports, Ui-Geum only thinks about the video they saw of him bullying a disabled kid at school. When his father asks him to say hi, Ui-Geum asks about Wu Chengfan. He says that Nam-yeop is not one of those people who invent things to help people with disabilities, but he bullies them. Nam-yeop's father tries to say it is all rumours, but Ui-Geum insists, saying there are videos. Seok-tae takes Ui-Geum away from the table.
Ui-Geum stand up to his father and says he does not want to be like his brother. His mother opens up to the psychiatrist about what happens with Soo-Kyum. It turns out that he committed suicide in his room a month after he was admitted to medical school. Da-bin blames herself. She thinks she saw the signs but ignored them and wishes she had heard her son's cry for help.
After leaving the party, Ui-Gyeom walks to Yoon-ki's house in the rain. He agrees to catch Nam-yeop together. Nam-yeop continues to bully students as usual. At the end of the episode, Yoon-ki and Ui-Gyeom go looking for Nam-yeop wearing brown shorts, hoodies, and red face masks.
The Episode Review
In this episode, Ui-Gyeom and his mother confront the trauma of Soo-kyum's suicide. Da-bin talks to a psychiatrist and tells them what happened to Soo-kyum. She blames herself, which explains her worries whenever Seok-tae pushes Ui-Gyeom too hard. Also, Ui-Gyeom stands up to his father.
True to our deduction in the previous episode, Ui-Gyeom gets into fights not solely about confronting bullies but mostly about releasing the pressure of dealing with his father and his high expectations of him. However, at the end of this episode, he decides to do something he wants to with his new friend Yoon-ki.
Will the new vigilantes, whose only enemy is school bullies, win in the fight to bring education back to its origin? Unlike other bullies they dealt with at school, Nam-yeop has his father's backing. Do you think they will easily get him to stop bullying other students, or have Yoon-ki and Ui-Geum met their strongest rival yet?

Hong Kong activist Joshua Wong faces second charge under national security law
HONG KONG, June 6 (Reuters) - Hong Kong authorities once again arrested prominent activist Joshua Wong on Friday and charged him with conspiracy to collude with a foreign country under a Beijing-imposed national security law. Wong, 28, was originally set to be released in January 2027 from a 56-month jail sentence he is serving under the same law for conspiracy to commit subversion after he participated in an unofficial primary election. Taken to the West Kowloon magistrates' courts, Wong faced a new charge of conspiracy to collude with a foreign country or with external elements to endanger national security. The former student pro-democracy activist, who wore a blue shirt and appeared noticeably thinner than before, replied, "Understand," when the clerk read out the charge and details of the offence. Wong did not apply for bail, and the case was adjourned to August 8. Before returning to custody, he waved, shrugged, and shook his head in the direction of the public gallery. In a statement, Hong Kong's national security police said they had arrested a 28-year-old man on suspicion of the offence, as well as for "dealing with property known or believed to represent proceeds of an indictable offence". A charge sheet seen by Reuters accuses Wong of having conspired with exiled activist Nathan Law and others to ask foreign countries, institutions, organizations, or individuals outside China to impose sanctions or blockades. Such actions against Hong Kong or China, along with other hostile activities targeting them, took place in 2020, between July 1 and November 23, it added. The National Security Law, which punishes offences such as acts of subversion, collusion with foreign forces, and terrorism, with terms of up to life in jail, was imposed by Beijing on the former British colony in 2020. The Chinese and Hong Kong governments say the law is necessary to restore stability following anti-government protests in 2019. But some Western governments have criticised it as being used to suppress free speech and dissent.

Hong Kong activist Joshua Wong charged under Beijing-imposed security law for second time
Prominent Hong Kong activist Joshua Wong on Friday was charged with conspiracy to collude with foreign forces to endanger national security under a Beijing-imposed law that critics say has crushed Hong Kong's once-thriving pro-democracy movement. The prosecution was the second time Wong has been charged under the sweeping national security law. He was already convicted in a separate subversion case linked to an unofficial primary election and is serving a sentence of four years and eight months. The prosecution accused Wong, 28, of conspiring with fellow activist Nathan Law and others to ask foreign countries, institutions, organizations and individuals outside of China to impose sanctions or blockades, or engage in other hostile actions, against Hong Kong and China. They also said he disrupted the formulation and implementation of laws and policies by the Chinese and Hong Kong governments, and that the act was likely to have serious consequences. The alleged offense occurred between July 2020 and November 2020. The prosecution didn't elaborate on the accusations in court. The charge carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment. After hearing the charge in court, Wong, who wore a blue shirt and was visibly thinner, said he 'understood' the charge. The case was adjourned to August. National security police arrested Wong in Stanley, an area in southern Hong Kong, over the national security charge and also on suspicion of 'dealing with property known or believed to represent proceeds of indictable offense," police said in a statement. Wong rose to fame in Hong Kong in 2012 as a high school student leading protests against the introduction of national education in the city's schools. Two years later, he became world famous as a leader of the Occupy Movement. In 2016, Wong co-founded a political party named 'Demosisto' with fellow young activists Law and Agnes Chow. In the 2019 pro-democracy movement, Wong helped seek overseas support for the protests. His activism led Beijing to label him an advocate of Hong Kong's independence who 'begged for interference' by foreign forces. Demosisto disbanded when Beijing imposed the security law in 2020. The Chinese and Hong Kong governments said the law brought back stability to the city.
