Reality TV star Georgia Harrison ‘blown away' at MBE for campaigning efforts

Independent14 hours ago

Reality TV star Georgia Harrison has said she is 'completely blown away' at being made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for services to tackling online privacy and cyber crime awareness.
Over the past couple of years the 30-year-old, who has starred in reality TV shows including The Only Way Is Essex and Love Island, has turned her hand to campaigning on violence against women and girls after becoming a victim of revenge porn.
She told the PA news agency: 'Honestly, I'm completely blown away to be receiving an MBE – it's one of my proudest achievements and something I didn't expect to be coming through the letter box this summer.
'It means the world to have this kind of recognition, not just for me, but for all the survivors who've been through what I have.
'Speaking out after what happened wasn't easy, but I knew it was important.
'I didn't want anyone else to feel as alone or powerless as I did. I've tried to turn something painful into something positive, and this honour is a reminder that we can make change when we use our voices.
'Thank you to everyone who's supported me along the way, to all of the MPs that invited me in to speak with open arms and to all the charities that supported me and my fellow survivors.
'I'll never stop fighting for what's right and I'll always step up when and where I think I can make a positive difference for others.'
In 2021, the TV star waived her right to anonymity amid a trial that saw her ex-partner, Stephen Bear, accused of sharing a secretly recorded sex tape of her to adult content website OnlyFans.
Bear, also a reality TV star, served 10 and a half months of a 21-month sentence after being found guilty of voyeurism and of two counts of disclosing private sexual photographs and films with intent to cause distress.
In April 2023, the month after he was sentenced, Harrison attended a demonstration, held outside Parliament by domestic violence charity Refuge, calling for specific protections for women and girls to be included in the Online Safety Bill.
She also called for social media platforms to be 'held accountable' for online harassment and abuse, and criticised the justice system for failing to 'keep up'.
Later that year, she discussed the Bill in a Downing Street meeting with former technology secretary Michelle Donelan as it returned to the Commons for its final stages.
In recognition of her work advocating for online safety and the prevention of violence against women and girls she won the activist gong at the Glamour Women of the Year Awards 2023.
Reflecting on her campaigning, she told The Sun in October 2023 that she had had 'serious conversations with a couple of Labour MPs' about a bid to represent an Essex constituency.
In 2024, she helped Thames Valley Police launch a campaign about sexual consent titled Consent Conservations.
Harrison explored the prevalence of deepfakes and image-based sexual abuse in an ITV documentary titled Georgia Harrison: Porn, Power, Profit, which was released earlier in the year.
As well as Love Island, she has taken part in reality TV shows including Celebrity Ex On The Beach and Channel 4 reality show Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins, which she won with boxer Lani Daniels.
In April, she announced she was expecting her first child with her partner Jack Stacey.

The Princess of Wales channels Princess Diana at Trooping the Colour

When it comes to the Princess of Wales's style playbook, one sartorial sleight of hand remains failsafe: channelling the last woman to hold the title that is now hers. Catherine frequently draws inspiration from the late Princess Diana, and appears to have done so once again at this year's Trooping the Colour celebrations. The Princess of Wales arrived on the Mall for the parade and Royal Air Force fly-past in an aquamarine dress coat by London-based designer Catherine Walker - the label's 'Bria' style, which features contrast ivory lapels and cuffs. The Princess's co-ordinating aqua hat with elegant floral detail was by Juliette Botterill, tied together with her Irish Guards Regimental Brooch and her Late Majesty The Queen's Bahrain pearl-drop earrings. Watching the ceremony from the dias, sitting beside the King in her role as Colonel of the Irish Guards, Catherine took a central spot in the annual celebration of the monarch's birthday. As well as being characteristically chic and perfectly suited to the occasion, her outfit is strikingly similar to the one Diana wore for Trooping the Colour in 1988 - a green and white-trim dress also made by Catherine Walker, one of the late Princess's favourite designers. By all accounts, Diana's is a great wardrobe to follow - she is still feted as a style icon decades on from her time in public life, during which she attended Trooping the Colour twelve times. Year after year, she delivered on-point looks, but it is her 1988 ensemble that seems etched most strongly in the mind of the current Princess of Wales. Indeed, this is not the first time Catherine appears to have channelled this specific Eighties fashion moment; in 2023, the Princess drew comparisons in a green dress by Singapore-born designer Andrew Gn, worn with a co-ordinating hat by Philip Treacy. To underline the tribute to Diana, Catherine added her late mother-in-law's sapphire and diamond earrings. Catherine often seems to look to Diana's stylish archive of outfits for inspiration, whether she's taking to the ski slopes in Switzerland or attending high-profile engagements. Another striking recent example came last month, when Catherine wore a navy coat dress with white trim by Suzannah London for the naming of HMS Glasgow. The immaculate nautical look was straight out of the Diana style playbook, recalling a similar Catherine Walker ensemble she chose in 1993 for the 50th anniversary of the Battle of the Atlantic. Another style move the two Princesses have in common? Mastering the tricky art of 'mummy and me' dressing. At this year's Trooping the Colour, Princess Charlotte echoed her mother in a dress in a paler shade of turquoise-blue, with matching white trim and tie-waist detail. Her horseshoe brooch, which once belonged to Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, was a gift from Her Late Majesty The Queen, echoing Catherine's earrings. Back in 1988, it was Prince Harry who was dressed to co-ordinate with his mother; the young royal appeared in Diana's arms on the balcony of Buckingham Palace wearing suspenders in the same shade of green as her Catherine Walker dress. As well as looking charming, co-ordinating dressing displays a united, harmonious family front. It can be difficult to carry this off without looking twee, but both Princesses of Wales have shown that donning aligned, complementary looks is more effective than matching directly. Catherine and Charlotte also showed how to pull off an elevated take on family dressing at last year's Trooping the Colour celebrations. The former wore white Jenny Packham design with black trim at the collar, while her daughter wore a navy sailor dress with white piping. It was, as The Telegraph 's Acting Deputy Fashion Director Tamara Abraham wrote at the time: 'almost the reverse of her mother's, but not so matchy-matchy that it looked twee.' Another effective example came at last year's Christmas Morning Service at Sandringham, for which Catherine and Charlotte wore co-ordinating tartan ensembles in shades of navy blue and forest green. A brighter, more summery shade of green was perfect for the pair at this year's Trooping the Colour, striking a good balance between pretty pastels and deeper winter tones. The Duchess of Edinburgh also delved into the green colour palette, opting for a Beulah dress with puffed sleeves and a pillbox hat by Jane Taylor, both in regal shades of emerald. The Queen, meanwhile, wore white for the occasion, echoing her wedding ensemble in a silk crepe dress with silver embroidery by Anna Valentine and a sculptural hat by Philip Treacy. All in all, the annual celebration of the monarch's official birthday provided plenty of uplifting fashion moments on a perfect summer's day in London. The King, along with other members of the royal family, wore black armbands in honour of those killed in the Air India disaster. This poignant tribute was balanced with colours and pageantry provided welcome light amid the darker news cycle.

Meghan and Harry part company with SIX more staff after hiring firm behind Duchess's infamous twerking video to boost their profile

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have parted ways with six more members of their team as their PR machine undergoes another dramatic shake-up just weeks after enlisting the agency behind the Duchess's cringe-worthy twerking video. The latest departures from Team Sussex include Kyle Boulia, their Los Angeles-based deputy press secretary, and Charlie Gipson, who had been serving as the couple's European communications director. Lianne Cashin, formerly head of operations at their Archewell Foundation, has also exited - just a month after a spokesperson described her as 'exceptional' and said she embodied the 'strength and vision' of the Duke and Duchess. They're not alone. Deesha Tank, Archewell's director of communications, a personal assistant, and Meghan's social media manager have all reportedly gone too. The mass exodus comes in the wake of Prince Harry's eyebrow-raising BBC interview, where he launched a fresh attack on his father King Charles and complained of an 'establishment stitch-up' after losing his legal battle over taxpayer-funded police protection in the UK. Sources say the interview didn't go down well behind Palace gates. But insiders claim the writing was already on the wall for some team members following January's damning Vanity Fair exposé, which alleged that several staffers were left needing 'long-term therapy' or took extended breaks after working with Meghan. Prince Harry, meanwhile, was painted as a lonely figure who has failed to make friends across the pond. The social media manager is said to have departed before Meghan released her now-infamous 'twerking' video, which showed the royal couple dancing in a hospital delivery room while waiting for the birth of their daughter, Princess Lilibet. The clip, which dropped on the Duchess's Instagram earlier this month, caused a stir online - with viewers torn between laughter and disbelief. The couple have since hired Method Communications, a slick US-based PR firm, in an effort to revamp their public image - a move widely seen as a sign they were unhappy with their previous media strategy. Joining their rapidly expanding comms empire is Emily Robinson, a former Netflix publicity director who worked on hit shows like The Crown. Meghan has also brought on Sarah Fosmo, who previously worked for Bill Gates, as her first chief of staff, while Harry has promoted long-time aide Miranda Barbot to the same role on his side. Overseeing the overhaul is Meredith Maines, appointed in February as the couple's first-ever chief communications officer. She confirmed the exit of Mr Boulia and Mr Gipson after barely a year in post, saying: 'As the Duke and Duchess's business and philanthropic interests grow, I have made the strategic decision to move toward a more traditional communications structure of specialist agency support. 'Transitioning from a team of two to an agency support staff of eight, operating across five different time zones, will give international media and stakeholders better access, and critically, faster response times to enquiries.' The Duchess, meanwhile, is focusing on growing her As Ever lifestyle brand, although her messaging has appeared inconsistent in recent weeks. She told Fast Company magazine that she wasn't planning to launch new products until early 2026, saying on her podcast she was pressing 'pause' until the business was 'completely stable'. But in a surprise move, she took to Instagram days later to tease that fans' 'favourite' items would be returning this month - along with 'a few new things' she 'can't wait to show off.'

Two-bedroom house goes on sale for £240k with the most 'bizarre' bathroom feature ever

A two-bedroom house has gone on sale for £240,000 - but potential buyers may be puzzled when they enter the bathroom. The property in Levenshulme, Manchester is situated in a quiet area with great transport links to the city centre. And at £240,000 the property situated at the end of a row of terraced houses is a well-priced prospect for potential buyers. However the only bathroom in the home does feature some unusual decor which may leave some to look elsewhere. The bathroom floor is decorated with a children's road map, similar to those seen on rugs usually aimed at those aged three and older. The home was posted on TikTok by @HousingHorrors who noticed the peculiar design in the otherwise unassuming house. He said: 'This house has the most bizarre bathroom carpet I have ever seen. 'It is so weird because you go through the property and everything looks pretty standard. Walls are painted white, grey carpet. 'But wait until you see this bathroom because everything is so boring and beige and then bang they have got this massive kind of roundabout roadworks carpet. This is so nostalgic. 'I am pretty sure they used to have these carpets in primary school but why would you want it in your bathroom. 'I mean fair play to them it is a little bit cool, a little bit quirky. I have never seen anything quite like it but it just feels a little bit out of place. 'But do you know what it is probably the most interesting room in the house because every other room in this house is very beige very boring. I would love to know the reasoning behind them having this. After originally believing the flooring was carpet, The social media personality eventually worked out the flooring was Vinyl. Referring to the popular children's play mats, he added: 'I remember these used to be carpeted.' In conclusion, the TikToker suggested the size and location of the house made it an attractive proposition for buyers, despite the bizarre floor design. 'This is very very unusual. It is so weird because everywhere else in the house is so normal. To be fair, two-bed end of terrace property. For the area, £240k, a lot of people might say it is a little bit expensive but it is actually a relatively nice size for the area.' The listing for the property describes it as a 'fabulous plot' which has benefitted from a brand new modern kitchen. It says the period end terrace is located in one of South Manchester's most sought after locations. Levenshulme features a host of independent shops, cafes and businesses just a ten-minute walk away from the home. The nearby train station also takes passengers to Manchester Piccadilly in around eight minutes. The home comprises of an entrance hall leading to an open plan living room and dining room, which is described as a 'blank canvas ready to put your stamp on'. A brand new modern kitchen boasts a range of wall and base units with ample space for appliances and storage. Upstairs there are two double bedrooms, with the main bedroom stretching the full width of the property. The family bathroom has a three piece suite and shower over the bath. Externally, the property also features a low maintenance yard access for off road parking if desired.
