VVIP Chopper deal case: Delhi court asks DG Prison to trace file of inquiry conducted on allegations of Christian Michel James
New Delhi [India], June 10 (ANI): A Rouse Avenue court on Monday took a very serious view of the fact that the inquiry file on the safety and security of accused Christian Michel James in Tihar Jail is not traceable. In August 2019, a report was filed in the court on the basis of this file. James is a British National and is accused in the VVIP Chopper deal case.
The court has asked DG (Prison) to trace the file, considering the seriousness of the issue. A report was filed on June 6 stating that the inquiry file is not traceable.
The court expressed its concern and said, 'Considering the seriousness of the issues raised by the accused/applicant CM James and the facts which have come on record during recent hearings on the grievance of the applicant, it is matter of serious concern that the case file of the inquiry on the basis of which report dated August 8, 2019 was given, is not traceable.'
'Hence, in the given facts and circumstances, let the DG (Prisons), Tihar Jail be asked to trace and produce the above inquiry file and in case the case file is still not traceable, then, to submit a report regarding the facts and circumstances lead,' Special Judge Sanjay Jindal ordered on June 9.
The court asked the jail authorities to ensure James' safety and security.
'Needless to mention that the jail authorities are bound to take all necessary safeguards for the safety and security of the applicant/UTP Christian Michel James,' the Special Judge said.
The matter has been listed on July 7 for compliance.
On June 6, 2025, a report was filed by Senior Law Officer of Office of DG Prisons, Tihar Jail stating that the original report submitted by DIG (P) as requisitioned by the court was not traceable despite best efforts.
It was further reported that as per reports, a copy of the assessment report has been found and attached with the report filed on June 6, 2025. During the course of consideration, it was explained/reiterated on behalf of Jail Authorities that the case file of the inquiry, on the basis of which the report of August 29, 2019, was given, was not traceable.
The Rouse Avenue court on May 29 summoned the file of inquiry conducted by the DIG Jail in relation to safety and security in Tihar jail in 2019.
The said inquiry was conducted after an alleged attempt on the life of James in Tihar Jail by an inmate.
The court noted that the accused Christian Michel James has stated that the findings of the report are in contradiction of statement of witnesses.
Accused Christian Michel James, through advocate Aljo K Joseph had moved an application on April 30, 2025, requesting reconsideration of the findings of the inquiry report of August 29, 2019, filed by jail authorities.
Earlier, an inquiry report of August 29, 2019, was filed stating that a Detailed inquiry was undertaken, in which it was concluded that there is no life threat to Christian Michel James.
An inquiry was conducted in 2019 after the alleged life attempts on James. An inquiry was initiated following an email received from the British High Commission.
This report was filed during a hearing on the earlier application James had made regarding his safety and security in Tihar Jail. (ANI)

Delhi: Doctor assaulted by patient's relatives at Rohini hospital
New Delhi [India], June 10 (ANI): A female doctor at BSA Hospital in Rohini was allegedly assaulted by four to five female relatives of a patient, following the death of a newborn, police said on Tuesday. The incident occurred around 2 PM on Monday, June 9, when the doctor was heading from the Obstetrics and Gynaecology (OBGY) Outpatient Department to Ward No. 12 for her duties. According to police, she was intercepted in the corridor and physically assaulted by the women, who were attendants (relatives) of a patient named Soniya, a resident of Bakkarwala, who was admitted in Ward No. 11. The accused reportedly pulled the doctor's hair and attempted to tear her clothes. The doctor was later taken for treatment for injuries sustained during the attack, officials said. Preliminary investigations revealed that Soniya was admitted for delivery, and her newborn baby died on the morning of June 9. Enraged by the loss, the attendants allegedly attacked the doctor. A case has been registered at North Rohini police station under sections 221, 132, 121(1), 126(2), 76, and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with relevant provisions of the Medical Services Personnel and Medical Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage to Property) Act, 2008. All five accused women were caught after the incident. Later, they were released after furnishing bonds, the police added. Further details are awaited. (ANI)

Odisha Govt suspends Dharamgarh Sub-Collector caught taking Rs 10 lakh bribe
Bhubaneswar (Odisha) [India], June 10 (ANI): The Odisha government has suspended Dhiman Chakma, the Sub-Collector of Dharamgarh in Kalahandi district. Chakma was caught red-handed on Monday while allegedly accepting a Rs 10 lakh bribe from a local businessman. 'Governor of Odisha in exercise of powers conferred under sub-rule 3 of rule 3 of the All India Services (Discipline & Appeal) Rules, 1969 hereby places the said Shri Dhiman Chakma, IAS (RR-2021) under suspension with immediate effect,' said the order issued by the General Administration Department of the State government. 'It is further ordered that during the period of suspension, the headquarters of Shri Chakma, IAS is fixed at the GA&PG Department, Government of Odisha, Bhubaneswar, and he shall not leave the said headquarters without prior permission of the undersigned,' the order added. On Monday, Odisha Vigilance Department said that during further searches at Chakma's residence, an additional Rs 47 lakh in cash was recovered, and Investigations are ongoing. Chakma, the 2021-batch IAS officer, had allegedly demanded a total of Rs 20 lakh as a bribe, threatening to take action against the businessman's enterprise if the payment was not made, the Odisha Vigilance said in a release. Chakma called the complainant to his official residence in Dharamgarh, where he accepted Rs. 10 lakh as the first instalment, it said. The IAS officer was caught 'red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10 lakh from a local businessman,' the department said in the release. The accused Sub Collector called the complainant to his official government residence at Dharamgarh, received the bribe amount, verified the 26 number of 100-note bundles of different denominations with both his hands, and kept the same inside his residence office table drawer. Both hand wash and table drawer wash gave a positive chemical reaction, the release said. A case has been registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018). More details are awaited as the probe continues. (ANI)

'Detainment of Indian national' at Newark airport raised with US Embassy: Sources
ANI 11 Jun 2025, 00:55 GMT+10 New Delhi [India], June 10 (ANI): A day after the Indian consulate in New York said that it is in touch with local authorities over social media posts claiming an Indian national was facing difficulties in the US, the government has formally raised the matter with the US Embassy in New Delhi, sources said on Tuesday. The sources said India's Embassy in Washington DC has also been in touch with the US authorities to ascertain the details. 'Reference social media post claiming that an Indian national was detained at Newark Airport in New Jersey, the Ministry has formally raised the matter with the US Embassy in New Delhi. Our Embassy in Washington DC and the Indian Consulate in New York have also been in touch with the US authorities to ascertain the details,' a source said. 'We have so far have not received any details about the incident or the circumstances under which he was restrained, the flight he had to board or boarded and his final destination. We continue to follow up on the matter,' the source added. A viral video purportedly showed a person being held on the ground by two individuals. The Indian Consulate General in New York said in a post on Monday that it is in touch with the local authorities. 'We have come across social media posts claiming that an Indian national is facing difficulties at Newark Liberty International Airport. We are in touch with local authorities in this regard. The Consulate remains ever committed to the welfare of Indian Nationals,' the post said. (ANI)
