
NIA chargesheets five Maoists in spl court in two cases
Ranchi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday filed charge sheets before special court in Ranchi against five Maoists in cases related to seizure of arms and ammunition in Lohardaga district and extortion and armed intimidation in Giridih district, it said on Saturday.
Sources in the NIA said, "Two Maoists — Ranthu Oraon and Niraj Singh Kherwar — have been chargesheeted in a case (RC-02/2022/NIA/RNC) related to the seizure of arms and ammunition in Lohardaga district under the IPC, the Arms Act, the Explosive Substance Act and UA(P)A-Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act."
With it, the total number of charge-sheeted persons in the case has touched 25. Five supplementary charge-sheets were filed against 23 persons between August 2023 and May 2025, they added.
Acting on inputs that Maoist ultras, led by regional commander Ravindra Ganjhu, had gathered to plan an attack on security forces in bauxite mining areas to avenge the arrest of their commander Prashant Bose, police, and CRPF personnel had, in February 2022, launched a joint search operation in Bulbul forest area of Lohardaga. An encounter took place between security forces and the Maoists at Harkatta Toli and Bangla pat, after which forces extensively searched the area and seized a large quantity of arms and ammunition, sources added.
In another case (RC-01/2023/NIA/RNC), the NIA chargesheeted Maoist regional committee member Krishna Hansda, Ramdayal Mahto, and Abhijit Korah. Hansda has been chargesheeted under the UA(P) Act, 1967, and the Arms Act, 1959, Mahto under the CLA and the UA(P)A, and Korah under the IPC, criminal law amendment (CLA) and UA(P)A. All three were found to be involved in extortions, armed intimidations, and forced recruitment at Parasnath in Giridih district of Jharkhand.

Two arrested for attacking former serviceman in Bathinda
The Bathinda police arrested two criminals for attacking an ex-serviceman Ranvir Singh at Bhai Bakhtaur village in the district. Ranvir, who is being treated at Shaheed Bhai Mani Singh Civil Hospital, told reporters that he was attacked for objecting to the activities of drug traffickers. As per the police, the main accused Kuldeep Singh has two criminal cases of drug trafficking and another two cases under Excise Act. Other accused Gurpreet Singh is facing a case under Arms Act in Ferozepur. They have been booked under Section 109 (attempt to murder), 126 (2) (wrongful restraint) and other sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) by the Kotfatta police authorities. Superintendent of police (rural) Heena Gupta said that the victim and accused belonged to the same village and they had an old mutual enmity. 'Both parties clashed earlier too and the matter was registered in the police records as well. Ranvir was attacked by the accused last evening in which the victim suffered multiple injuries in his legs,' she added.

Amritsar: Extortion module with BKI links busted, 2 arrested
The Punjab Police on Sunday claimed to have dismantled a terror and extortion module linked to Jeevan Fauji, an operative of Pakistan's ISI-backed Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), with the arrest of two of his associates. The accused have been identified as Karajpreet Singh alias Karaj, 23, of Vairowal in Tarn Taran and Gurlal Singh alias Harman, 23, of Goindwal Sahib in Tarn Taran. Punjab director general of police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said Fauji has been running an extortion racket, targeting individuals in Punjab's border districts. He had provided a .30 bore pistol to Karajpreet and Gurlal, and directed them to fire at a furniture shop in Amritsar to extort money from the relative of the owner based in Canada. The weapon, along with a live cartridge, was recovered from the accused's possession. The motorcycle used in the crime has also been seized. Sharing operational details, Amritsar police commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said both the accused were arrested during an intelligence-led operation from Tarn Taran and Fazilka. He said during a follow-up recovery operation in Sultanwind, accused Gurlal Singh attempted to open fire at the police party. Police retaliated, resulting in a bullet injury to Gurlal's left leg, he said, adding that the injured accused was immediately shifted to the civil hospital in Amritsar, where he is undergoing treatment. A case under Sections 109 (attempt to murder), 324(4) (mischief that causes loss or damage between ₹20,000 and ₹1,00,000) and 3(5) (criminal act is done by several persons in furtherance of the common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act was registered.

NIA raids 15 places in Delhi, UP, 6 other states
New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) carried out a massive search operation at 15 locations in eight states late on Saturday in connection with a Pakistan-linked espionage case. Searches were reportedly conducted at the premises of suspects linked with Pakistan Intelligence Operatives (PIOs) in the states of Delhi, Maharashtra (Mumbai), Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Assam and West Bengal. During the searches, NIA teams found a several electronic gadgets and sensitive financial documents, along with other incriminating materials. These are being thoroughly investigated for clues to the espionage network being operated by agents based in Pakistan as part of an anti-India terror conspiracy. According to NIA investigations, the suspects targeted in the searches were acting as financial conduits for conducting espionage operations in India and had ties to Pakistani operatives. The case was registered by NIA on May 20 after the arrest of an accused person who had been providing PIOs with sensitive information since 2023 and had received funds through various conduits in India in lieu of leaking classified information related to national security.
