Will Zerodha go for an IPO? Here's what Nithin Kamath said
Zerodha co-founder and CEO Nithin Kamath has ruled out any plans for an initial public offering (IPO), even as the company prepares for a temporary slowdown in its core broking business and eyes a long-term transformation into a full-scale financial services conglomerate, including a foray into banking, according to a report from CNBC TV18. ADVERTISEMENT Kamath said Zerodha has enough capital to execute its growth plans independently. 'We continue to believe there's no reason to IPO. Being listed on exchanges is tough for a company like us,' he said, making it clear that the firm will remain privately held for the foreseeable future. Kamath admitted that the broking business is likely to witness a 10–20 percent decline in the near term, attributing the weakness to slower market activity in Q1 FY26. However, he maintained that the company remains confident of achieving Rs 10,000 crore in revenue by the end of FY26, without increasing its brokerage rates. Despite the expected dip in trading volumes, Kamath said Zerodha is well-positioned due to its consistent profitability and financial strength. The company reported a 62% jump in profit to Rs 4,700 crore in FY24, while revenue rose 21% to Rs 8,320 crore. Additionally, Zerodha holds Rs 1,000 crore in unrealised gains, further strengthening its balance sheet.'Given the profitability of the last three years, our net worth is almost 40% of the customer funds that we manage. It makes us one of the safest brokers to trade with,' Kamath ahead, Kamath reaffirmed the company's broader ambition to evolve into a diversified financial services powerhouse. Over the next decade, Zerodha aims to transition into a full-fledged financial conglomerate, and the roadmap includes eventual entry into banking, pending a regulatory nod for a banking licence. ADVERTISEMENT Zerodha, which revolutionised retail investing in India through its discount broking model, is now the country's second-largest stock broker by active client base. The company continues to maintain a lean, profitable, and conservative approach to growth, with a clear preference for independence over public listing. Public sector banks outshine Private lenders in Q4FY25 profit, driven by business expansion: CareEdge Report
New Delhi [India], June 4 (ANI): The government-owned banks have reported higher profits than their private sector counterparts in the fourth quarter of the financial year 2025, according to a recent report by CareEdge Ratings. The report shows that Scheduled Commercial Banks (SCBs) collectively witnessed a moderate improvement in their financial performance in Q4FY25. The report said 'Net profit for SCBs increased by 4.3 per cent year-on-year to Rs 0.93 lakh crore in the quarter, driven by business expansion.... Conversely, Private Sector Banks (PVBs) experienced a decline of 4.7 per cent, reaching Rs 0.42 lakh crore in Q4FY25'. Their Net Interest Income (NII), the difference between interest earned and interest paid, rose 3.6 per cent year-on-year (YoY) to reach Rs 2.09 lakh crore, supported by steady loan growth. However, this was partially offset by rising deposit costs, which impacted margins. The Net Interest Margin (NIM) for SCBs declined 21 basis points (bps) YoY to 2.99 per cent, mainly due to slower growth in high-yield loan segments, increased deposit rates, and slower growth in low-cost CASA deposits. Despite pressure on margins, net profit for SCBs increased by 4.3 per cent YoY to Rs 0.93 lakh crore in the quarter. This improvement came on the back of business expansion, lower provisioning requirements, and higher income from other sources. Among SCBs, Public Sector Banks (PSBs) showed impressive growth, with their net profit rising 13.1 per cent YoY to Rs 0.51 lakh crore. This surge in profit is attributed to a low base in the previous year, better asset quality, gains from treasury operations, and controlled operating expenses. In contrast, Private Sector Banks (PVBs) saw a 4.7 per cent decline in net profit, bringing their total to Rs 0.42 lakh crore in Q4FY25. The fall was largely due to losses posted by one major private bank, which faced accounting mismatches, difficulties in the microfinance segment, and higher provisioning needs. However, if this particular bank's performance is excluded, the overall profit of PVBs would have actually grown 5.4 per cent YoY, reaching Rs 0.46 lakh crore, showing relatively healthy growth. The banking sector's asset quality also improved in Q4. The Net Non-Performing Asset (NNPA) ratio of SCBs dropped to an all-time low of 0.5 per cent, compared to 0.6 per cent a year ago Overall, the report suggested that public sector banks have emerged stronger in the latest quarter, supported by improvements in profitability and asset quality, while private banks faced pressure due to isolated issues in select institutions. UPI Trumps Visa In Just 9 Years, Is World's Leading Real-Time Payment System Now
Last Updated: In May 2025, UPI transaction value was 12 times the combined total of all card payments, processing Rs 25 lakh crore in transactions during the month India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has achieved a significant milestone, emerging as a leading digital payment platform within just nine years of its launch. Originally introduced as a cashless alternative, UPI has now surpassed Visa, one of the oldest and largest digital payment networks, in transaction volume. Its success has extended beyond India, with the platform being adopted in several countries worldwide. UPI has now become the world's largest retail real-time payment system. On June 1, it processed 64.4 crore transactions, and on June 2, this figure surpassed 65 crore. In comparison, Visa's daily transaction volume in the financial year 2024 was 63.9 crore. Thus, UPI's daily transactions have now exceeded those of Visa. In May, UPI's average daily transactions were 60.20 crore, rising to 67.4 crore in the March quarter. Earlier in May, daily transactions were around 63 crore, which later increased to 64–65 crore. UPI has not only surpassed Visa in transaction volume but is also growing at four times the rate. UPI's monthly transaction growth stands at 5-7%, with an annual growth of 40%, compared to Visa's 10% yearly growth. If this pace continues, UPI's daily transactions are expected to overtake Visa's within the next 2 to 3 months. The government has set a target to increase UPI's daily transactions to 1 billion. While UPI has surpassed both Visa and MasterCard in transaction volume, it leads by an even wider margin in terms of value. In May 2025, UPI transactions were 12 times higher in value than the combined total of all card transactions. During this period, transactions worth Rs 25 lakh crore were processed through UPI. In India, 85% of all digital transactions now take place via UPI. First Published: June 04, 2025, 18:00 IST
