Motherwell secure top-flight survival with dramatic victory over Dundee
Tawanda Maswanhise headed a stoppage-time winner as 10-man Motherwell secured William Hill Premiership safety with a 2-1 victory at Dundee.
The substitute sealed a second-half comeback despite Johnny Koutroumbis receiving a VAR-assisted red card in the 80th minute.
Dundee had taken a half-time lead through a brilliant strike from Antonio Portales, who soon had a second goal disallowed.
But Tom Sparrow levelled with Motherwell's first shot on target in the 59th minute and the visitors showed ambition after going down to 10 men.
They came close on several occasions before Maswanhise rose to head Dom Thompson's back-post cross into the top corner in the first minute of time added on.
The win moved the Steelmen 10 points above second-bottom Ross County with three games left while Dundee remain in a precarious position, two points ahead of the Staggies.
Aston Oxborough was back in the Motherwell goal for the first time since breaking a bone in his hand in early January and he made his mark early on with an excellent stop from Oluwaseun Adewumi before getting up to save Ziyad Larkeche's follow-up.
The goalkeeper then pushed away Joe Shaughnessy's header but he was motionless as Portales volleyed into the top corner from 16 yards in the 31st minute after a long throw.
It was the Mexican defender's first league goal of the season and he looked like he had doubled his tally after another long throw.
Portales hit an equally-impressive strike into the same part of the net with his left foot but the goal was disallowed by the VAR team for offside against Clark Robertson in the build-up.
Motherwell were lacking a cutting edge and Callum Slattery failed to hit the target from their only two chances of note in the first half, hitting the first over the bar and being tackled by Shaughnessy as he weighed up a shot.
Well boss Michael Wimmer brought on Maswanhise at the interval but there was little immediate improvement in the visitors' threat and Oxborough saved from Lyall Cameron.
But Motherwell levelled as Sparrow got his second goal in as many games. Lennon Miller's run into the box made the difference and Sparrow steered the ball into the roof of the net when the ball broke.
Josh Mulligan fired over from the edge of the Motherwell box and Cameron turned the ball just past his own goal following Maswanhise's square ball as both sides looked for a winner.
The game seemed to have tipped in Dundee's favour when referee Kevin Clancy was called to the monitor by video assistant Callum Scott to re-examine a late tackle from Koutroumbis on Larkeche.
Clancy had not awarded a free-kick but he booked the Australian before then upgrading the punishment to a red after studying the footage.
Despite the numerical disadvantage, Motherwell looked the more threatening side in the closing stages.
Substitute Ewan Wilson had a shot turned past the post by Trevor Carson and Dan Casey headed off the bar from the resulting corner.
Maswanhise then stunned the home support and could have added to Motherwell's lead on the counter-attack before being denied by Carson and seeing Casey knock the rebound wide with the goal gaping.

James Maddison pays emotional tribute to Ange Postecoglou after Tottenham exit
Tottenham have sacked manager Ange Postecoglou just 16 days after winning the Europa League and James Maddison has shared a tribute to the Australian on social media James Maddison has paid a touching tribute to Ange Postecoglou after he was sacked as Tottenham manager, despite winning the Europa League. Postecoglou spent two seasons in charge of Spurs, guiding them to a fifth placed finish in his first Premier League campaign. However, their league form was awful last season as Tottenham finished just one place above the relegation zone and suffered 22 defeats. They did beat Manchester United in the Europa League final, though, to win their first piece of silverware since 2008 and qualify for next season's Champions League. Despite that victory, Spurs decided to axe Postecoglou and are now looking for a new manager. The likes of Brentford boss Thomas Frank, Fulham's Marco Silva and Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola are among the candidates who could replace him. It remains to be seen who ultimately becomes Spurs' next manager, but a number of players have penned emotional farewell messages to Postecoglou. Maddison, who was one of Postecoglou's first signings at the club, wrote on social media: "Gaffer, where to start. Firstly, thank you for bringing me to this wonderful club that I now call my home. "Your instant belief in me to not only sign me but make me the clubs vice captain & part of the leadership group from the get go is something I'll always be thankful for. "Secondly for the Europa league campaign that started in our stadium on gameweek one and finished perfectly with that special night in Bilbao. You led us to victory and we're European champions and in this clubs history books because of you and your winning mentality. "Lastly and most importantly is how you are as a man and a person. Your unwavering self belief and strong mindset is infectious and a massive reason in why you were the man to end this clubs 17 year drought for a trophy. "A family man with great morales & I have honestly learnt so much from you. More than you will probably ever know. All the very best. Madders". Club captain Son Heung-min also shared a similar message on social media, branding Postecoglou a "Tottenham Hotspur legend forever". He wrote: "Gaffer. You've changed the trajectory of this club. "You believed in yourself, and us, since day one and never wavered for a second. Even when others did. You knew what we were capable of all along. You did it your way. And your way brought this club the best night it's had in decades. We will have those memories for life. "You trusted me with the captaincy. One of the highest honours of my career. It's been an incredible privilege to learn from your leadership up close, I am a better player and a better person because of you. Ange Postecoglou, you are a Tottenham Hotspur legend forever. Thank you, mate." Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content. Manny Pacquiao delivers brutal Jake Paul verdict ahead of boxing legend's return
Paul has received a fair bit of stick as he prepares to make his return to the ring later this month against former middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr Boxing icon Manny Pacquiao doubts that a win for Jake Paul against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr will "legitimise" the American as a boxer. Paul and Chavez Jr will go head-to-head in Anaheim on June 28. The 'Problem Child' comes into the showdown off the back of a dominant win over former heavyweight world champion Mike Tyson back in November. Chavez Jr claimed a win over Uriah Hall in his last outing last July. Since making his professional debut back in 2020, Paul has taken the sport of boxing by storm. With a professional record of 11-1, the 28-year-old has defeated the likes of Ben Askren, Tyron Woodley, Anderson Silva and Nate Diaz. His only loss in the ring came against rival Tommy Fury two years ago. The social media star-turned-boxer has been criticised over the years for largely taking on former MMA fighters. That said, he does face a level-up in opposition against Chavez Jr - who is a former middleweight champion. A win over the Mexican could earn Paul a showdown with some top names in the near future. Many big stars within the sport of boxing have weighed in and offered their verdict on the outcome of the upcoming fight. One man who has shared his thoughts is Pacquiao - who does not believe a win for Paul will do wonders for his career as he looks to climb up the ranks. When asked whether a win over Chavez Jr will "legitimise" Paul as boxer, Pacquiao told Fight Hub TV: "It's hard to comment on that fight. But it is up to the fans as to how they analyse it and judge it," before adding: "I do not think so." Despite Pacquiao's concerns, Shawn Porter is tipping Paul to get the job done on fight night after being left amused by Chavez Jr in training. 'I got Jake Paul by KO," he said. 'He doesn't have a gas tank. That means you're not working and training out of the gym. I saw the in gym stuff and you scratch your head like 'that was it for the day?' 'One day he came into the gym he shadow boxed, I don't know if he made it a round on the bag, then he packed up and left … I've seen some short stuff. I don't want to disrespect but it will make you scratch your head. The other fighters were laughing like 'that was it? Why did he show up?'' After the fight was announced, Paul was quick to take to social media and vowed to knock Chavez Jr out. "Five years ago, I stepped into the ring for my pro debut after one amateur fight, and every fight since has been a step towards becoming world champion," said Paul. "I just defeated the baddest man on the planet and broke multiple records, and now I'm going against a former world champion with 54 wins who Canelo could barely beat. Chávez Jr. is Mexican, but I, El Gallo De Dorado, mexi-CAN knock him tf out. On Saturday, June 28, live on DAZN pay-per-view, I will defeat Julio and make Chávez Sr. proud in ways Jr. never has. Viva La Puerto Rico."

Jake Paul's opponent 'laughed out of the gym' by boxing rival ahead of fight
Boxing legend Shawn Porter has backed Jake Paul to beat Julio Cesar Chavez Jr after he was left amused by what he saw from the Mexican in training. Paul is scheduled to make his boxing return on June 28 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, against the former WBC middleweight champion. The 'Problem Child' has not fought since he cruised to a points victory over Mike Tyson back in November. Chavez Jr has been fairly inactive since losing the middleweight world title back in 2012. With a professional record of 54-6-1-1, the 39-year-old has fought the likes of Daniel Jacobs, Canelo Alvarez and Andy Lee. He comes into the cruiserweight dust-up off the back of a win against ex-UFC star Uriah Hall last July. While many are expecting a tough night at the office for Paul, Porter has confidently predicted that the 28-year-old will get the victory later this month. Speaking on The Porter Way Podcast, he said. 'I got Jake Paul by KO.' The boxing icon then explained how previously seeing Chavez Jr in the gym helped him come to that conclusion. 'He doesn't have a gas tank. That means you're not working and training out of the gym. I saw the in gym stuff and you scratch your head like 'that was it for the day?' He said. 'One day he came into the gym he shadow boxed, I don't know if he made it a round on the bag, then he packed up and left … I've seen some short stuff. I don't want to disrespect but it will make you scratch your head. The other fighters were laughing like 'that was it? Why did he show up?'' With just a few weeks to go until the clash, Paul is confident that he will "embarrass" Chavez Jr. "I'm gonna shock the world once again and prove how good I am, how powerful I am," the 28-year-old said at the launch press conference. "This is his toughest fight to date, and I'm going to embarrass him and make him quit like he always does." He added: "I don't want any excuses, and when I beat this man all the boxing media, like you guys always do, are going to discredit it. But I'm gonna expose him and I'm gonna embarrass him. He's the embarrassment of Mexico. Mexico doesn't claim him. "He's going to get exposed on June 28, and then the boxing media will have all these excuses but I don't want them to be having these excuses. They say he's training hard, they say this is the most focused he's ever been, good. As he should be, because people don't realise how good I actually am, and when he feels those first few punches he's going to want to quit and go back to his stool."
