4 Chechen officers killed in car bombing in Russian-occupied part of Kherson Oblast, Ukraine's HUR claims
Four Chechen officers from Russian-backed Akhmat unit were killed in a car bombing near the occupied city of Skadovsk in Kherson Oblast on May 20, Ukraine's military intelligence agency (HUR) claimed on May 22.
According to HUR, the car exploded between Skadovsk and Antonivka in the occupied part of Kherson Oblast. Skadovsk, a city with a pre-war population of 17,000, lies on the Black Sea coast. Russia has occupied it since March 2022.
The first blast was followed by more explosions, as the officers were allegedly transporting ammunition that detonated, HUR said.
While Ukrainian intelligence did not explicitly claim responsibility for the incident, it said that "there will be just retribution for every war crime committed against the Ukrainian people."
The Kyiv Independent could not verify these claims.
Russian officials, their proxies, and collaborators have been routinely targeted in both occupied parts of Ukraine and inside Russia.
Kyiv does not typically comment on the attacks or claim responsibility.

Russian Drone Barrage Kills 3 in Ukraine's Second-Largest City
An overnight Russian drone barrage that targeted Kharkiv, Ukraine, on Wednesday killed three people, set cars and buildings on fire and sent exhausted residents running to bomb shelters, according to the local authorities. Russia has been increasing the scale of missile and drone attacks for months, with nightly attacks on various regions and cities in Ukraine. On Tuesday, it hit Kyiv, the capital, with one of the most intensive drone barrages of the war. On Wednesday, Ukraine's Air Force reported that its air defense units had shot down 49 out of 85 drones launched by Russia during the overnight assault on Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-largest city. Russian forces also launched an Iskander-M ballistic missile from Russia's Kursk region, according to the Ukrainian Air Force. Most of the damage from the overnight assault was reported in Kharkiv, but the barrage also affected the Donetsk region, near the front line, and the Odesa region, the air force said. It confirmed strikes at 14 locations. In addition to the three people killed in the drone attack on Kharkiv, 64 others were wounded, including nine children, according to the local police. The drones struck a trolley bus depot, a private house and several multistory residential buildings. Fires broke out in apartments, as well as in parked vehicles and on a children's playground. Ukraine does not report strikes on military sites, so it was unclear whether any were hit in the assault. The strike on the Odesa region destroyed and damaged houses, cars and civilian boats, the local authorities said.

Russian attacks kill 4, injure 73 across Ukraine over past day
At least four people were killed and 73 injured over the past day as Russian forces launched drone and missile attacks across multiple regions of Ukraine, authorities said on June 11. Ukraine's Air Force reported that Russia deployed 85 attack drones, including Shahed-type unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and decoy drones, along with one Iskander-M ballistic missile launched from Russia's Kursk Oblast. The main targets were the Kharkiv, Donetsk, and Odesa oblasts. Ukrainian air defenses reportedly shot down 40 drones overnight, while nine drones disappeared from radars or were intercepted by electronic warfare.
