Cyriel Dessers minimum Rangers transfer fee revealed as AEK set to spend big on statement signing

The Greeks mean business after takeover by Marios Iliopoulos but new Ibrox regime determined to turn a profit on Dessers Greek Giants AEK are preparing to push the boat out to land Rangers hitman Cyriel Dessers. The enigmatic Ibrox striker has blasted 51 goals in two years in Glasgow but remains a divisive figure among the Light Blue legions. ‌ Now Record Sport understands AEK are keen to offer him a fresh start in the Greek capital - and are willing to spend big. ‌ The Yellow and Blacks were taken over by shipping magnate Marios Iliopoulos last year and he's determined to make a statement signing this summer. They've identified Gers' 30-year-old Nigeria international as the man they want to spearhead their big push to recapture the Super League title they last won in 2023. But they will likely have to start the bidding at the £5million mark as Rangers' new American owners prepare to dig their heels in. The previous Ibrox regime spent £4.5million when they signed the former Feyenoord forward from Italian outfit Cremonese in 2023 and new sporting director Kevin Thelwell believes his record of scoring a goal-every-other game in Glasgow justifies a return on that investment. Dessers has been the subject of interest in recent windows, with his agent Stijn Franics revealing earlier this year that he had as many as TEN clubs sniffing about his signature in January. None could come up with the cash Gers were looking for and he stayed on to finish the campaign in Glasgow only one shy of the 30 mark. ‌ Selling Dessers would free up some fresh funds for new boss Russell Martin to spend. Andrew Cavenagh and his partners from the San Francisco 49ers have vowed to inject £20m of fresh funds into the Ibrox coffers, with CEO Patrick Stewart promising the new gaffer a 'decent amount' would be ring fenced for recruitment purposes. ‌ But Martin has been told he will have to move players on if he wants to raise additional funds for what is likely to be a considerable rebuild this summer. Record Sport broke the news last week that Leicester City defender Conor Coady could be the first new face in bolster Gers' backline. Ib Rox chiefs have already made contact with the Foxes as they look to kick off the Martin revolution with the experienced ex-England's capture. We also revealed how Rangers are in the hunt for £4 million-rated Israeli striker Dor Turgeman, who could be the man to replace Dessers. Talks with his club Maccabi Tel Aviv are on going as Rangers look to land the 21-year-old hit-man. Russell Wilson pays heartbreaking tribute to his father on anniversary of his tragic death at 55

New York Giants quarterback Russell Wilson honored his late father on the 15th anniversary of his tragic passing. Wilson, who signed with the Giants in the offseason, posted a picture of his dad - Harrison Wilson III - on his Instagram story. '15 Years Ago we lost you. We miss you every day Dad. Keep shining down on me. Love you! Still can see your smile today,' the 36-year-old quarterback posted. Wilson's father tragically passed away on June 9, 2010 due to complications from diabetes at just the age of 55. His death came one day after Russell was picked in the fourth round of the 2010 MLB Draft by the Colorado Rockies. '(My dad dying) was one of the hardest days of my life,' Wilson said (via The Denver Post). 'It was the highest of highs next to the lowest of lows, all in 24 hours. And how the Colorado Rockies organization took hold of me, took care of me was (incredible). '(Longtime scouting director and current Rockies general manager) Billy Schmidt, (scout) Jay Matthews and some other great people in this community really took me under their wing, and it really meant a lot to me along the way.' Wilson would spend some time in spring training with Colorado and played in their minor league system in the summer. However, the desire to finish out his college football career still remained. But after finishing top-15 nationally in passing yards with NC State, coach Tom O'Brien felt that Wilson wasn't as committed to playing football after signing with the Rockies. The coach said that if Wilson did return, that there wasn't a guarantee that he'd be starting. With no NFL teams interested in drafting him - and O'Brien no longer wanting him - Wilson was released from his scholarship at NC State and looked to make a transfer. On an episode of the podcast 'Not Just Football with Cam Heyward' from last August, Wilson said, 'My dad used to always tell me when I was young, I was about seven, eight years old, 'Hey son, you need to check out this school, you know, Wisconsin.'' So, when Wilson looked to make a move, he transferred to Wisconsin and the rest his history. He excelled with the Badgers, was selected in the third-round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks, and became one of the teams all-time greatest players. In spite of his father's passing, Wilson manages to stay positive through his support system - especially his family, including his wife Ciara and his children. 'When [my dad] passed away, I remember the next morning hearing like, "The sun still comes up in the morning"... No matter what we go through in life,' Wilson said during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show. 'Especially when you're 1-of-32 guys... why would I be negative?'

Belfast Giants honour legendary head coach Adam Keefe with jersey retirement at testimonial

At a testimonial game in Keefe's honour, celebrating his 14 years of service to the Giants, in front of his family – including brother Sheldon, head coach of the NHL's New Jersey Devils – his jersey was raised to the rafters at the SSE Arena. It is the highest honour that can be bestowed in hockey and a wholly deserved one for Keefe, the team's most successful coach and an individual who is described as the "heartbeat" of the organisation. And now nobody will ever wear the No.47 jersey ever again as, after a heartfelt speech by Giants chairman Robert Fitzpatrick, the banner was lofted above the West End net where it will forever stay. The jersey raising ceremony was followed by the testimonial, which took the form of a round-robin tournament between former team-mates and players that Keefe has coached split into four teams named after Keefe's former teams. Current Belfast stars such as captain Mark Cooper, David Goodwin, Ben Lake and Jackson Whistle all featured, while fellow retired jerseys Rob Stewart, Colin Shields and Graeme Walton also took part, with Todd Kelman and Shane Johnson taking their place as coaches alongside Sheldon Keefe. Joining the organisation in 2011 as a hard-nosed forward and quickly establishing himself as captain in only his second season in Belfast, Keefe would win two Elite League titles with the Giants as a player but it is as coach that his legacy has been taken to another level. In his seven seasons in charge, Keefe has delivered ten trophies to the Giants out of a possible 19, including the Grand Slam in 2023 as his all-conquering side swept all before them to secure League, Challenge Cup and Play-Off glory. Last season the Brampton, Ontario native led the Giants to their fourth League title under his stewardship, winning a dramatic final day race to clinch the crown, as well as a fifth Cup, and is now preparing to take the team into the Champions League for the fourth time next season. Not just the team's coach, Keefe has now built his life in Northern Ireland having married wife Colleen, with the couple welcoming their first daughter Cora in 2021, with Tara following in 2023.
