Fedrigoni acquires stake in packaging tech company Papkot
The Fedrigoni Group, an Italy-based speciality paper manufacturing for packaging, has acquired a minority stake in Papkot, a startup known for developing the first large-scale paper coating technology that mimics the properties of plastic.
This acquisition is part of Fedrigoni's corporate venture capital programme aimed at identifying and scaling industry-changing startups.
The Fedrigoni Group CEO Marco Nespolo said: 'This investment has enormous potential for Fedrigoni.
'We will have the opportunity to acquire disruptive technology in plastic-to-fibre that will allow us to increasingly support our customers in their efforts to develop monomaterial and fully recyclable packaging.
'Furthermore, Fedrigoni will play a key role in accelerating the industrialisation phase, which is essential for the scalability of the Papkot business model.'
Papkot's advanced barrier technology is claimed to replace silicon and cellulose with a nanostructured material, effectively eliminating plastic from single-use packaging.
The collaboration between Fedrigoni and Papkot is set to accelerate the global deployment of this technology.
Founded in 2020 by CEO Manuel Milliery, Papkot has research and development hubs in France and China and manufacturing partnerships in the US, France, and China, Papkot already caters to global food and consumer goods brands.
The company's technology boasts 'high' resistance to substances such as water, grease, oil, and glycerol while also offering transparency and other custom surface properties essential for packaging.
Papkot asserts that its coatings are fully recyclable and devoid of harmful substances, including per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances.
Its proprietary technology has a wide array of applications, ranging from disposable food packaging and fire-retardant paper to transparent materials and disposable cups.
The coatings are said to have undergone extensive validation on a variety of paper substrates, both virgin and recycled.
Papkot is also conducting industrial trials to enhance compatibility with the varied requirements of converters and brand owners.
Papkot CEO Manuel Milliery said: 'From 2020, we have a mission to eliminate plastic from packaging and from our daily lives. I welcome our new strategic investor and partner.
'With Fedrigoni, we are committed to sustainability, high standards, attention to detail and continuous improvement.
'The injection of new capital and the group's global network will allow us to boost our international growth path and investment in research and development.'
In February last year, Fedrigoni Group acquired specific assets from the US-based company Mohawk Fine Papers.
"Fedrigoni acquires stake in packaging tech company Papkot" was originally created and published by Packaging Gateway, a GlobalData owned brand.

The BNDES and FINEP partnership aims to promote investments to increase production, research and development as well as innovation in the processing of strategic minerals, such as graphite. The first shipment of natural flake graphite concentrates from the Santa Cruz Graphite Mine in Bahia, Brazil was shipped on June 5, 2025 to a North American client. The next orders are being prepared. Santa Cruz Phase 1 Operational Update. VANCOUVER, British Columbia, June 16, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- South Star Battery Metals Corp. ('South Star' or the 'Company') (TSXV: STS) (OTCQB: STSBF), is pleased to announce that it was selected by the R$5B (US$895M) Transformation of Strategic Minerals initiative sponsored by the BNDES and FINEP. The initiative targets increased production and transformation of minerals crucial for energy transition and decarbonization, focusing on developing supply chains for graphite, lithium, rare earth elements, and other strategic minerals in Brazil. The initiative is designed to accelerate the production and transformation of critical minerals essential for the global energy transition and decarbonization, with a strategic focus on building supply chains for priority resources. South Star presented a work program and conceptual business plan for Santa Cruz Phase 2 and 3 expansions as well as the downstream transformation of graphite in Brazil for industrial and energy transition sectors. The Company will now submit a comprehensive business plan detailing market analysis, management, milestones, budgets, marketing strategy, operations plan, partnerships and socio-environmental impacts for increasing production with a phased, modular approach. South Star will work in partnership with BNDES and FINEP to assess the most appropriate potential financial structures for future funding, which could include credit facilities, equity participation, and grants to invest in productive capacity, research, development, and innovation ('RD&I'). In addition, the Company is pleased to announce that the maiden shipment of graphite concentrates from Santa Cruz left the mine on June 5th, 2025 and is enroute to North America. This significant milestone marks the transition of South Star into commercial production and underscores its commitment to establishing a reliable, scalable global supply chain with integrated graphite production in the Americas. Trump says US-UK deal ‘done' as steel tariffs still up in air
Donald Trump and Sir Keir Starmer have finalised a US-UK deal that will slash trade barriers on goods from both countries, but leaves the future of tariffs on British steel up in the air. The Prime Minister said the move marked a 'very important day' for both sides as the US president announced the agreement was 'done' in a joint appearance on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Canada. The deal will grant British carmakers a reprieve by the end of June as levies drop from 25% to 10%, while the aerospace sector will face no import taxes. But tariffs for the steel industry, which is of key economic importance to the UK, will stand at 25% for now rather than falling to zero as originally agreed. This is less than the US global rate of 50% for steel and aluminium. The Prime Minister described the pact as a 'sign of strength' in the transatlantic relationship, while Mr Trump praised Sir Keir as a 'friend' who had done a 'great job' securing the deal that eluded leaders before him. Following the hastily arranged meeting, the two leaders posed for pictures outside the G7 venue with the signed documents, which the US president dropped before Sir Keir picked them up. Mr Trump also mistakenly referred to the pact as a 'trade agreement with the European Union.' In an impromptu media spray, the US president was asked whether steel tariffs would be eliminated, to which he replied: 'We're gonna let you have that information in a little while.' The Department for Business and Trade said the two leaders had pledged to 'make progress towards 0% tariffs on core steel products as agreed'. Asked whether Britain would be shielded from future tariffs, Mr Trump said the UK was protected 'because I like them'. 'The UK is very well protected, you know why? Because I like them. That's their ultimate protection,' he said. The PM told the US President: 'Donald, thank you very much… A really important agreement. And so this is a very good day for both of our countries, a real sign of strength.' The terms of the deal were agreed in May, but neither Washington nor London had yet taken the necessary steps to reduce tariffs. Reports have since suggested the US could also push for the NHS to pay more for American drugs in exchange for softened tariffs, with White House sources telling the Telegraph the service would be expected to pay higher prices. Downing Street insisted the Government will 'only ever sign trade agreements that align with the UK's national interests' but did not rule out discussing the issue with Washington. The Prime Minister was also insistent that a nuclear submarine deal between the UK, US and Australia, called Aukus, is 'very important' to both the United States and Britain. He said it was proceeding despite Washington launching a review into the pact, which is worth around £176 billion and believed to be aimed at countering China. He said: 'We're proceeding with that, it's a really important deal to both of us. 'I think the president is doing a review, we did a review when we came into government, and that makes good sense to me.' Sir Keir and his fellow world leaders are locked in a week of intense diplomacy amid the spiralling conflict in the Middle East and the war in Ukraine. The Prime Minister joined Italian Premier Giorgia Meloni, French President Emmanuel Macron, Mr Carney and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz for a glass of wine and informal discussions on Sunday night. Downing Street dismissed suggestions that the get-together had been a 'Trump-handling' exercise to prove the summit against the US president's unpredictability as leaders seek to put on a united front in the face of heightened global instability. On Monday, splits opened up in the response to Russia, which Mr Trump suggested should not have been kicked out of the former G8 following its annexation of Crimea in 2014. The US leader also signalled his reluctance to impose further American sanctions on Moscow despite a European push to heap more pressure on Vladimir Putin as he resists calls for an unconditional ceasefire in Ukraine. Standing alongside Sir Keir, who had earlier said G7 allies would seek to ratchet up measures against the Kremlin, Mr Trump said sanctions were 'not that easy' and would cost Washington 'a tremendous amount of money'. Asked whether Washington supported European efforts to impose further measures, he told reporters ahead of a bilateral meeting with the UK Prime Minister: 'Well Europe is saying that, but they haven't done it yet. 'Let's see them do it first.' Asked why he wanted to wait to impose sanctions, Mr Trump said: 'Because I'm waiting to see whether or not a deal is done… and don't forget, you know, sanctions cost us a lot of money.'

FORTUNE UNVEILS 2025 SOUTHEAST ASIA 500
2nd annual Fortune list has Singapore's Trafigura at No. 1, as the energy sector dominates; Malaysia's NationGate claims fastest growing by revenue Ranks of female CEOs at Southeast Asia 500 companies increases to nearly 40, up 28% from last year Indonesia has the most companies, 109, on the Southeast Asia 500 but Singapore companies lead in revenue, profits, and assets SINGAPORE, June 16, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Fortune today unveils the 2025 Southeast Asia 500 rankings, the second annual list of the largest companies in the region, ranked by revenue for the 2024 fiscal year. Fortune's focus on Southeast Asia comes as the region emerges as a resilient growth engine for the global economy, playing an increasingly important role in global supply chains, capturing manufacturing capacity shifting from China due to heightened tariffs and trade tensions. The seven countries in last year's inaugural Southeast Asia 500 list—Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Cambodia—return in 2025, and continue to make their mark on the region's economy. Indonesia leads with 109 companies, while Thailand follows with 100. Malaysia has 92 companies on the list, surpassing Singapore's 81. Vietnam's presence on the list has grown to 76, while the Philippines contributes 40 and Cambodia rounds out the list with two. Singapore-headquartered commodities trader Trafigura earned the No. 1 spot on the Fortune Southeast Asia 500 for a second year, generating more than $243 billion in revenue in 2024, followed by Thailand's PTT (No. 2), Indonesia's Pertamina (No. 3) and Singapore's food and agribusiness powerhouses—Wilmar (No. 4) and Olam (No. 5). The top five companies generated nearly $516 billion in revenue, or 28% of all 500 companies combined. Together, the top 10 generated $660 billion—36% of the list's total revenue—while the top 20 accounted for $836 billion, nearly half the combined revenue of all 500 companies. Notably, Singapore-based companies generated $637 billion in 2024, underscoring the city-state's role as a regional business hub and accounting for just over a third of the Southeast Asia 500's total revenue. Collectively, companies on the 2025 list generated $1.82 trillion in revenue in 2024, up from $1.79 trillion the year before. The minimum revenue threshold to be included on the 2025 list was $349.4 million. "Fortune's interest in the region reflects Southeast Asia's growing importance as an engine of global growth," says Clay Chandler, Executive Editor, Asia. "The region has become a crucial manufacturing and export hub, which is drawing significant capital flows. This momentum has been further fueled by Trump-era tariffs, which have reshaped global trade dynamics and driven a shift towards Southeast Asia." Energy – whether resource extraction, power generation, or electrical transmission—is the dominant sector on the 2025 list, accounting for almost a third of its total revenue. Thai oil refiner and energy company, Bangchak, breaks into this year's top 20 with a 47% jump in revenue. Financial firms represent Southeast Asia's second-largest sector. Significantly, thirteen banks and financial firms are among the top 20 most profitable companies with Singapore's DBS leading—both in terms of revenue and earnings—for a second year. In his introduction to the new list in the June/July issue of Fortune Asia magazine, editor, Asia, Nick Gordon notes, the Fortune Southeast Asia 500 provides "a snapshot of a region ready to take advantage of global supply chain shifts and booming industries like mining, EVs, and AI—even as U.S. tariff policy threatens to roll back some of last year's gains." Fast-growers in revenue terms included newcomers to the list—Malaysian precision manufacturing company NationGate, Indonesian mining and energy firm, Petrindo Jaya Kreasi and Vietnam's transport infrastructure and automotive services company, Tasco JSC, as well as returning companies such as the Philippines' online gaming firm, Digiplus Interactive, and travel and transportation companies like Singapore aviation catering and logistics firm SATS, Changi Airport Group and Airports of Thailand. In 2024, the top 20 fast-growers captured strong tailwinds from rebounding tourism, resource demand (coal, nickel, energy), digital transformation, and industrial growth in Southeast Asia. In a positive sign for female leadership in the region, Fortune's analysts noted there are 37 female CEOs leading Southeast Asia 500 companies, up from 29 reported last year. There are also 37 women holding the position of chairman. This growth in diversity, alongside the ten CEOs in their 30s, underscores the region's evolving leadership landscape. The average age of the chief executives leading the 500 companies is 58. In total, the 2025 Southeast Asia 500 companies employ more than 6.3 million people.
