Shooting at Baton Rouge apartment complex leaves 1 hurt, officials say
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — One person is in critical condition after a reported shooting in Baton Rouge on Tuesday, March 18.
According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, around 4:45 p.m., officers were called to the 12000 block of Newcastle Avenue about a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found a man with a gunshot wound.
Emergency medical services reported taking the man to a local hospital in critical condition.
No further information was shared. Louisiana First News will continue to provide updates as they become available.
Anyone with information regarding the shooting is urged to contact BRPD at 225-389-2000 or Crime Stoppers at 225-344-7867.

Scandal-plagued Kanye, who has been widely criticised in recent years for repeated antisemitic remarks and inflammatory behaviour, is one of the few public figures to voice support for Combs. Ahead of his fellow rapper's trial, he posted messages on social media advocating for Combs' release. In February, West sparked further backlash after he promoted and sold T-shirts emblazoned with swastikas — an incident he publicised in a Super Bowl advertisement. 11 arrested after St. Helena Parish jail inmate's overdose death
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Eleven people were arrested in connection with the fentanyl-related death of an inmate in St. Helena Parish. Inmate Rogers B. Vernon, 40, died from an overdose in April. The St. Helena Parish Sheriff's Office said the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office was asked to assist in the investigation. Investigators learned that contraband had been brought into the jail. Deputies said 10 inmates and one civilian were arrested in the case. 'The St. Helena Parish Sheriff's Office would like to thank Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office, who, in cooperation with our deputies, worked tirelessly in assisting with this investigation. For the safety of those housed at our jail, additional measures have been implemented to prevent contraband from entering our facility. We would also like to extend our condolences to the family of Mr. Vernon- our prayers are with you all,' the sheriff's office said. Brandon Burge, 38, was charged with two counts of distribution of Schedule II CDS and one count each of introduction of contraband and second-degree murder. ICE says Club World Cup attendees should carry proof of citizenship, sparking concerns
The Trump administration's anti-immigrant crackdown is casting a pall over the FIFA Club World Cup soccer tournament kicking off in Florida this weekend. The Club World Cup is an international tournament that features some of the world's top professional soccer clubs. The United States is hosting it this year, with the first game scheduled for Saturday in Miami Gardens. On Tuesday, U.S. Customs and Border Protection tweeted that it will be 'suited and booted and ready to provide security for the first round of games.' It later deleted the tweet without explanation. And ICE told NBC News 6 in Miami that all non-American citizens will need to carry proof of their legal status. When asked to clarify that comment, an ICE spokesperson told The Miami Herald in a statement: 'As is customary for an event of this magnitude with national security implications, ICE will be working alongside our Department of Homeland Security and Department of Justice partners to help ensure the safety and security of the event.' 'Keeping President Trump's promise to deport illegal aliens is something the administration takes seriously,' a White House spokesperson told the Journal. The apparent plan to confirm attendees' legal status at a soccer match seems like a similar attempt by the Trump administration to cast a net in a place where immigrants are likely to be. And creating uncertainty around the event surely won't help with reports on slow-moving ticket sales for the tournament.
