Nagpur solar capital? Waaree, Reliance, B'luru firm seek land for solar panel projects

Time of India4 hours ago

Nagpur: The solar power equipment manufacturing sector is set to expand in the city with more players entering the fray. After Avaada Electro began production last month, three more companies are set to start operations at Butibori.
Reliance Infrastructure has put up a request before Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) to acquire over 1,000 acres of land. Waaree Energies, which has been allotted 300 acres in Butibori Industrial Estate of MIDC, has applied for an additional 700 acres, said sources. A Bengaluru-based company, Powerin Urja, has also put up a request for 200 acres near the city.
MIDC has initiated the process of acquiring land on behalf of the companies, said sources.
The three companies plan to manufacture solar panels, a key component for generating solar power. The developments indicate Nagpur will soon emerge as a hub for solar power equipment manufacturing, said sources.
Last month, Avaada Electro, the first in the sector to start operations, began manufacturing solar panels and emerged as the first to make 720Wp solar panels in the country. The company also plans to manufacture solar cells by October.

Making cells in Nagpur will eliminate dependence on China, said sources.
Ashish Kale, chairman of Association of Industrial Development (AID), said this is expected to draw more players to Nagpur and open opportunities for local industries, especially in light of the rising demand for alternative energy.
"Avaada has started production in record time. With this, other companies are expected to follow suit. Moreover, incentives offered by the state govt are much more lucrative compared to other states, on account of refunds available on state goods and service tax (SGST)," said industrial consultant Julfesh Shah.

Donald Trump to extend TikTok sale deadline for third time, says White House

US President Donald Trump will extend a June 19 deadline for China-based ByteDance to divest the US assets of short video app TikTok for 90 days despite a law that mandated a sale or shutdown absent significant progress, the White House said on Tuesday. Trump had already twice granted a reprieve from enforcement of a congressionally mandated ban on TikTok that was supposed to take effect in January. "President Trump will sign an additional executive order this week to keep TikTok up and running," White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Tuesday. That would extend the deadline to mid-September. "President Trump does not want TikTok to go dark," she added, saying the administration will spend the next three months making sure the sale closes so that Americans can keep using TikTok with the assurance that their data is safe and secure. Trump said in May he would extend the June 19 deadline after the app helped him with young voters in the 2024 election. Earlier on Tuesday, he had told reporters on Air Force One he expected to again extend the deadline. "Probably, yeah," Trump said when asked about extending the deadline. "Probably have to get China approval but I think we'll get it. I think President Xi will ultimately approve it." The law required TikTok to stop operating by January 19 unless ByteDance had completed divesting the app's US assets or demonstrated significant progress toward a sale. Trump began his second term as president on January 20 and opted not to enforce it. He first extended the deadline to early April, and then again last month to June 19. In March, Trump said he would be willing to reduce tariffs on China to get a deal done with TikTok's Chinese parent ByteDance to sell the short video app used by 170 million Americans. A deal had been in the works this spring that would spin off TikTok's US operations into a new US-based firm and majority-owned and operated by US investors, but it was put on hold after China indicated it would not approve it following Trump's announcements of steep tariffs on Chinese goods. Democratic senators argue that Trump has no legal authority to extend the deadline, and suggest that the deal under consideration would not meet legal requirements.

Oil prices extend rise as Iran-Israel conflict enters sixth day

Oil prices ticked up in early trading on Wednesday after ending the previous session up more than 4% on worries that the Iran-Israel conflict could disrupt supplies. Brent crude futures rose 19 cents, or 0.25%, to $76.64 a barrel by 0029 GMT. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures rose 23 cents, or 0.31%, to $75.07 per barrel. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Play War Thunder now for free War Thunder Play Now Undo U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday called for Iran's "unconditional surrender" as the Iran-Israel air war entered a sixth day. The U.S. military is deploying more fighter aircraft to the region to bolster its forces, three officials said on Tuesday. Analysts said the market was largely worried about supply disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz , which carries a fifth of the world's seaborne oil. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations had warned on Monday that electronic interference is affecting ships' navigation systems. Iran is OPEC 's third-largest producer extracting about 3.3 million barrels per day (bpd) of crude oil, but analysts say other members of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries could use their spare capacity to make up for a drop in Iranian output. Markets are also looking ahead to a second day of U.S. Federal Reserve discussions on Wednesday, in which the central bank is expected to leave its benchmark overnight interest rate in the 4.25%-4.50% range. However, the conflict in the Middle East and the risk of slowing global growth could push the Fed to potentially cut rates by 25 basis points in July, sooner than the current market expectation of September, said Tony Sycamore, market analyst with IG. "The situation in the Middle East could become a catalyst for the Fed to sound more dovish, as it did following the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack," Sycamore said. Lower interest rates generally boost economic growth and demand for oil. Confounding the decision for the Fed, however, is that the Middle East conflict also creates a new source of inflation via surging oil prices. U.S. crude and gasoline stocks fell last week while distillate inventories rose, market sources said, citing American Petroleum Institute figures on Tuesday.

3 city girls score 100 percentile in MHT-CET for sciences

Pune: Fourteen students from the state have scored a perfect 100 percentile in the Maharashtra Technical Common Entrance Test (MHT-CET) for pharmacy and agriculture undergraduate courses, whose results were declared on Tuesday. According to the list released by the CET cell, city girls have secured top ranks. Shreya Yadav, Siddhi Manjabapu Badhe and Snehal Nivrutti Diwate are among the 14 students who have scored 100 percentile. The next step for successful students is the counselling process likely to start in late June. There will be three rounds of counselling, where students will get seats based on their choices, category, and marks they obtained. Many CET toppers also performed exceptionally well in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and wish to pursue medicine. Anshika Shah of Mumbai has decided to pursue medical education despite securing 100 percentile in CET. Her interest in pursuing medicine stems from her aunt and uncle who are in the medical field. The MHT-CET exam for the physics, chemistry, and biology (PCB) group examination was held from April 22 to 30. Of the 301,072 registered students, 282,734 took the test. This year, the number of meritorious students scoring between 90 to 100 percentile has decreased by 1,390 compared to last year. The 100 percentile, which was achieved by 17 students last year, has been reduced to 14 this year. The number of students scoring 80 to 89.99 has also decreased by 1,451 students. In addition to the CET results, the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has also released the schedule for its recruitment exams for 2023, which is expected to attract thousands of government job aspirants across the state.
