TAMMUN: Israeli troops killed five Palestinians in the occupied West Bank village of Tammun Thursday, in a raid the military described as targeting buildings suspected of being used to plan terror attacks.
"The occupation forces killed five young men after besieging a house in the centre of the village," Tammun mayor Samir Qteishat told AFP.
"The (Israeli) army took four bodies, and we found a fifth martyr, the charred body, after the (Israeli) forces left," he added.
The Israeli military meanwhile said it targeted "two buildings suspected of being used for planning terror attacks from Tubas and Tamun".
It said "soldiers identified armed terrorists who barricaded themselves in a building.
Following an exchange of fire, five terrorists were eliminated, and an additional terrorist was apprehended".
The West Bank has seen an upsurge in violence since the beginning of the Gaza war, sparked by Palestinian militant group Hamas's October 7, 2023 attack on Israel.
On Wednesday, a shooting attack in the centre of the West Bank killed a pregnant Israeli woman and left another Israeli wounded.
Raids were ongoing Thursday and roads blocked after Israel's military chief vowed to find the perpetrators of the attack.
Israel's military in January launched an ongoing, large-scale operation in the West Bank that has displaced at least 38,000 people, according to the United Nations.
The operation, which Israel says aims to eradicate Palestinian armed groups, has primarily targeted refugee camps in the northern West Bank -- where Tammun is located.
Israeli troops and settlers have killed at least 934 Palestinians in the West Bank since the start of the Gaza war, according to health ministry figures.
Palestinian attacks and clashes during military raids have killed at least 34 Israelis, including soldiers, over the same period, according to Israeli figures.
Israel has occupied the West Bank since 1967, and Israeli settlements in the Palestinian territory are considered illegal under international law.

Israel Intercepts Over 100 UAVs Sent By Iran, Says IDF

The Israel Defence Forces on Monday said that Iran sent over 100 UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles), which they intercepted. "Iran sent more than 100 UAVs at Israel. We intercepted them," the IDF said in a post on X. Meanwhile, Iranian security forces located a three-story Israeli drone factory inside Iran, as per The Times of Israel, quoting semi-official IRGC-linked Tasnim news agency. According to the report, Tehran believes other sites are present in the country, and security forces are operating against them. In Israel's initial strikes on Friday, it used explosive-carrying quadcopter drones, rockets, and other sophisticated equipment located inside Iran for precision attacks on Iranian nuclear scientists, military leaders, anti-aircraft batteries, and surface-to-surface missiles. The Wall Street Journal reported Sunday that they were smuggled into the country, and not manufactured there, as per The Times of Israel. As per IDF, Iran is targeting all Israelis indiscriminately. "All Israelis are targets for the Iranian regime. All Israelis are heroes to us." Earlier, the IDF said, "Hamas just triggered sirens in southern Israel after a projectile was launched from southern Gaza. Reminder: We are still in a multi-front war." The Israeli Air Forces struck an Iranian refueling aircraft at Mashhad Airport in eastern Iran, approximately 2,300km from Israel. "The IAF struck an Iranian refueling aircraft at Mashhad Airport in eastern Iran, approximately 2,300 kilometers from Israel. The IAF is operating to establish aerial superiority over Iranian airspace. This marks the longest-range strike conducted since the beginning of Operation Rising Lion," the IDF said in a post on X. As per the Times of Israel, Israel appears to be striking Parchin, according to Iranian media. The Mehr News Agency posted a video showing air defense systems activating in the area in response to strikes. The IDF said it is striking surface-to-surface missile launch sites in central Iran. The IDF Home Front Command told Israelis to remain close to shelters, ahead of an expected missile barrage. That instruction remains in force. TV stations in Israel speculate that the air force is seeking to prevent the anticipated Iranian missile attack, as per The Times of Israel.

Who is Arturo Gamboa? Armed man at Kings Day protest fired at by peacekeeper; bystander killed

AP A peacekeeper at a "No Kings" protest in Salt Lake City opened fire on a man who raised a rifle at the crowd, but accidentally shot and killed a bystander, police said on Sunday. The incident happened on Saturday evening during nationwide "No Kings" protests, where demonstrators rallied against what they called president Donald Trump's authoritarian actions. While most protests remained peaceful, violence broke out in Salt Lake City when a man, identified as Arturo Gamboa, 24, pulled out a rifle near the protestors. According to Salt Lake City police chief Brian Redd, two men wearing neon green vests, believed to be part of the peacekeeping team, approached Gamboa with their handguns drawn. Witnesses said Gamboa raised his rifle and moved towards the crowd. One of the peacekeepers then fired three shots, hitting Gamboa and a bystander, Arthur Folasa Ah Loo, 39. Ah Loo was taken to hospital but later died from his injuries. Gamboa, who was treated for minor injuries, was arrested and charged with murder. Police accused him of creating the dangerous situation that led to Ah Loo's death. The gunfire caused panic, forcing hundreds of protestors to flee, hide behind barriers and seek shelter in nearby buildings. Police recovered an AR-15 style rifle, a gas mask, and a backpack at the scene. Authorities are still investigating why Gamboa brought the rifle to the protest and how the peacekeepers were organised or trained for the event. In another incident in Riverside, California, a driver struck a woman participating in a separate "No Kings" demonstration and fled. The woman was hospitalised with serious injuries but is stable. Police are still searching for the driver. The Utah chapter of the 50501 Movement, one of the groups behind the protests, condemned Gamboa's actions and thanked first responders and their safety team for acting quickly. They did not respond to questions about the peacekeeping team's organisation or training.

West Asia conflict, oil spike put investors on edge

New York: Israel and Iran launched fresh attacks on each other into Sunday, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu saying Israeli strikes would intensify as Tehran called off nuclear talks that Washington had held out as the only way to halt the bombing. Oil prices rose 7% on Friday, as Israel and Iran traded strikes, and investors will be watching closely to see how the price reacts when markets open later. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like If You Eat Ginger Everyday for 1 Month This is What Happens Tips and Tricks Undo "So far we are at a stage of 'controlled confrontation'", said Lombard Odier's chief economist Samy Chaar, where it is too soon to call for real and persistent economic damage despite high risk. On Saturday, Israel appeared to have also hit Iran's oil and gas industry for the first time, with Iranian state media reporting a blaze at a gas field. Israel's air offensive against Iran that began early on Friday, killing commanders and scientists and bombing nuclear sites in a stated bid to stop Tehran building an atomic weapon, knocked risky assets, including stocks, on Friday. It also lifted oil prices and prompted a rush into gold and the dollar, which resumed its role as a safe-haven asset for the first time in months. Oil prices at close to six-month highs could pose a risk to the inflation outlook . Live Events
