'I snapped up £13 AirPod alternatives from Amazon'
They're cheap and cheerful and I wouldn't be without them now
I used to be one of those people who couldn't go anywhere without my AirPods - the sleek case, the instant connection, the subtle flex of popping them in as I wandered round Sainsburys. But after losing my second pair in just over a year, I couldn't face the thought of having to pay £140 for yet another pair.
Having previously purchased some Amazon "cheapies" for my kids, I decided if I can't be trusted with expensive ones anymore, I'll have to do the same. I went on Amazon, found some that looked the same sort of style from a brand I've never hear of and snapped them up then and there.
At £12.99 they came with no fancy packaging and a pretty basic looking spec, so I wasn't expecting too much from them. But months later, I'm still using them - and I'm not missing my AirPods at all.
The YHFvesv Wireless Earbuds feature upgraded Bluetooth 5.3 technology that offers a surprisingly fast and stable connection. They were easy enough to pair with my phone first time and they reconnect after charging.
The battery life is pretty sound too. I can get about 6 (ish) hours out of them, but I do tend to find the case needs to be charged more often than my Apple AirPod case ever did.
I'm not really one for technical specs, but according to Amazon these earbuds have "dynamic drivers deliver rich sound with deep bass, while ENC noise reduction and four built-in microphones provide clear calls by filtering out background noise."
They do sound good - a decent amount of bass when listening to music and crisp, sharp sound when I'm enjoying a podcast or watching an app. They also feature smart touch controls for music, calls and volume which can be activated with a single tap on either ear.
Luckily - and surprisingly given my ability to break and lose things - I haven't had to see how well they handle water yet. But according to Amazon they have an IPX8 waterproof rating to protect against rain and sweat.
So they look good, sound great and cost me just £12.99. I could lose and replace ten pairs of them and still be quids in. I will definitely be taking a least one pair on holiday with me this year. I even purchased a little case with a clip on it in an attempt to keep them close at hand.
Of course, these aren't the only alternatives to pricey earbuds. There are plenty to choose from for under £20.
Amazon has lots of other similarly priced options, including the soundcore by Anker P20i True Wireless Earbuds. Usually £29.99, they are currently reduced to £16.99 - offering big bass sounds and more than 60,000 customer reviews.
Over at Argos, the Belkin SoundForm Rhythm True Wireless In-Ear Earbuds have 20% - taking the price down to £19.99. Popular with buyers on a budget, shoppers have called them "a good pair of earbuds" with "great sound."
For shoppers who are happy to spend a little more, the JLab GO Air Pop In-Ear True Wireless Earbuds are £24.99. Available in a range of trendy colours, these little beauties have garnered more an 3000 reviews on the website.
Alternatively, Very has £15 off the JBuds Mini True Wireless Earbuds. Offering big bass in a tiny package, buyers have called them "good quality" and "value for money". They are currently reduced from £39 to £24.
Customers who have already snapped up the YHFvesv Wireless Earbuds seemed just as impressed with them as I am. One buyer said: "Amazing pair of airpods! Worth the money very light, look like Apple airpods and the sound quality is really good, they also sit comfortably in your ear. Battery also lasts ages without needing charge. Not too big in size and instant pairing. Such a good buy!"
Another added: "These earbuds are a game-changer! From the moment I put them in, I was blown away by the crystal-clear audio and rich, deep bass. They fit incredibly well, staying secure even during my most intense workouts, and are so comfortable I often forget I'm wearing them."
A third was just as impressed, saying: "Easy to connect to phone and looks just like Apple Airpods! They fit nicely in the ears and the size is perfect for on the go travel. They have good battery life. Amazing for the price!"
With 90% of all reviews on Amazon giving a five-star rating, not many buyers had anything negative to say. One did raise some concerns however, saying: "Battery life is short in comparison to others I have owned. Sound quality and volume are good. Charging case also doesn't hold as much charge as previous ones I've owned."
Another glowing review summed it up, saying: "I cannot believe the quality & sound for the price, absolutely brilliant. They look similar to a £200+ pair of Airpods, without the hefty price tag. I will definitely recommend to friends & will purchase as gifts."

'Dodgy' Fire Sticks users issued warning by Amazon over 'hidden dangers' - after report claims illegal streamers are 'costing broadcasters and sports bodies billions per year
Amazon have warned of a the 'hidden dangers' of using 'dodgy' Fire Sticks to illegally stream live sport. A report published last week by Enders Analysis claimed that 'industrial scale theft of video services, especially live sport, is in the ascendance.' Enders accused major technology companies of 'ambivalence and inertia' in tackling piracy of live sporting events. The report claimed that the Amazon Fire Stick has been a 'piracy enabler', alleging the device has been used to access illegal streams. One common way of accessing illegal streams is by using devices like the Amazon Fire Stick - an entirely legal piece of technology in its original form. But the stick can be easily modified (or 'jailbroken') to allow users to access apps which show pirated sports content. The report stated that around 59 per cent in the UK who own Fire Sticks have used them for these illicit purposes in the past 12 months. Amazon, who are also a broadcaster of live sport, claimed to the Sun that it has made changes to its Fire TV devices to make it more difficult to stream pirated content. The company has also issued a warning to those using pirated content, highlighting the risk of using apps from unknown sources. 'Pirated content violates our policies regarding intellectual property rights, and compromises the security and privacy of our customers,' a spokesperson told the Sun. 'We work with industry partners and relevant authorities to combat piracy and protect customers from the risks associated with pirated content. 'Our Appstore prohibits apps that infringe upon the rights of third parties and we warn customers of the risks associated with installing or using apps from unknown sources.' Following repeated alerts from the Premier League, there has been a major focus on tackling illegal streaming. This has led to a string of arrests, including one man based in Halifax earlier this year, with Sonny Kanda jailed for two years after cheating legitimate providers out of more than £108,000 across an 18-month period between 2020 and 2022. Sky and DAZN are said to be two of multiple other companies worried about the soaring rise in the rate of TV piracy. So many people are watching these illegal streams that it is now comparable to stealing on an 'industrial scale', according to Enders. The report went on to state that a single high-profile event, such as a live football match, can draw 'tens of thousands' of viewers away from legitimate streams and towards pirated content. Research in 2023 by the Intellectual Property Office claimed that nearly four million people in the UK had illegally streamed live sport in the previous year. Meanwhile, in France, Arcom, a regulatory body, released a study that said the sports sector had lost €240m (£200m) from audi-visual privacy. Fans will argue that this phenomenon is due to the exponential rise in monthly subscription fees for streaming services. In the 2023-24 season, it is estimated that fans had to pay around £870 each year in TV subscriptions if they wished to see all televised Premier League games. Assuming not every UK household is full of sports fanatics alone, their TV bill would be much higher. Cinema, documentary, and children's TV packages would add to this £870 fee, meaning some homes would see their bill run well over £1000. Meanwhile, the argument of major broadcasting companies - like Sky, TNT or DAZN - is that they pay huge sums of money to broadcast live football and other sporting events. People pay for a monthly subscription to access these services, so when viewers are redirected to free illegal sites, these big companies lose money.

Those looking for a bundle, will be able to get the Switch 2 with Mario Kart World for £429.99. Currently, pre-order deals are proving hard to come by and going in and out of stock by the hour. Amazon did drop a surprise restock on the model so it could be worth refreshing before Thursday. The best stock as we speak is Very - the Mario Kart World and Switch 2 console is available to order now. It's not the only gaming deal on our radar this week, rivals at Sony have launched a 'Days of Play Sale ' which includes discounts on its newest console - the PS5 Pro. This runs next week on June 11. The Switch 2 will come with a flurry of enhancements compared to the OLED and Lite models. Launching back on April 2, Nintendo said it brings 'new ways to play games'. It has a larger 7.9-inch LCD screen and displays in full HD at 1080p. The console will also have a redesigned dock with 4K and HDR support, and the Joy-Con 2 controllers will offer mouse controls and magnetic attachment. Plus, the Switch 2 will support new features like GameChat, a voice chat and screen sharing service, and DLSS and ray tracing for improved graphics - for those who wondered how it compared to older models. Other features where it differs to other Nintendo Switch models include its shorter battery life and a higher price point, which is worth flagging with shoppers.
