A 70-year-old golfer is in intensive care at a Chicago-area hospital after an SUV hit him as he played at a 9-hole municipal golf course just 10 minutes from downtown.
The victim was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, and authorities said he was still there on Tuesday.
According to a story at CBS Chicago, the incident took place around 5:30 p.m. on Monday evening at Billy Caldwell Golf Course, which is located in the Chicago neighborhood of Edgebrook.

CHICAGO (AP) — A Chicago police officer was unintentionally shot and killed by her partner after they chased a suspect into an apartment and encountered another person with a rifle, officials said. Krystal Rivera, 36, a four-year veteran of the department, is survived by a 10-year-old daughter. The partner was the only person who fired a weapon, and the 'gunfire unintentionally struck Officer Rivera,' city police said in a statement Friday. An autopsy showed she was shot in the back. Rivera died at a hospital late Thursday, less than an hour after being shot. Colleagues had brought her to the hospital in a squad car that crashed and caught on fire due to a malfunction, according to Police Superintendent Larry Snelling. She was then transported in another squad car. The person who allegedly brandished the rifle was taken into custody, police said. They did not immediately say what charges the person would face. The shooting occurred just before 10 p.m. on Thursday as Rivera's tactical unit conducted a stop on someone suspected of having a weapon. A chase ensued that ended in the apartment. Investigators later found three weapons at the scene, police said. Snelling called Rivera 'young, vibrant and a hard worker.' Her mother told The Chicago Sun-Times that she had dreamed of being a police officer since she was young. 'For me, it's a privilege,' Rivera told the Sun-Times when she graduated from the academy in 2021. 'I come from a family of serving. To help people in need, that's my calling.'

Chicago weekend shootings leave 4 people hurt, according to police
At least four people were wounded in weekend shootings across the city, according to Chicago police. The ages of the victims range from 34 to 72. Shootings from Friday In the first shooting of the weekend, officers responded to a call of a person shot around 10:18 p.m. in the 3300 block of West Walnut Street. Upon arrival, they found a 47-year-old man on the ground with a gunshot wound to the arm and abdomen. He was treated by fire crews and taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition. While on scene, they received another report of a person shot in an alley. There, officers found a 43-year-old man shot in the 3300 block of West Lake Street. He suffered a gunshot wound to the right torso and abdomen. Fire crews also treated him before he was taken to Mt. Sinai in critical condition. The victims did not provide any further details about the shootings. Then, at around 11:30 p.m. in the 5300 block of West Belmont Avenue, a 72-year-old man was parking his vehicle when an unknown armed man attempted to remove property through his car window. The victim opened his car door, and a struggle ensued between the two. During this, the gun fell to the ground and discharged, hitting the victim in the leg. The armed man left the scene. The victim self-transported to Community First Hospital in good condition. In other shootings from 5 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday: Shootings from Saturday At 2:48 a.m. in the 8300 block of South Sangamon Street, a 34-year-old man was standing by his car in the street when two armed, unknown males approached and removed property from the victim. The gunmen then shot at the victim in the side of the torso and fled the scene in a dark SUV. The victim was treated by fire crews and taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition. Unless otherwise noted, no arrests were made in either incident. The wife of former Illinois House Speaker Mike Madigan is pleading with a federal judge before his sentencing next week. Shirley Madigan sent a video about her husband, who was convicted on corruption charges, that she hopes will be played in open court. In the video, she explained that she wouldn't know what to do without him around. "I really don't exist without him. I wish I could say that I do, but I don't know what I will do without Michael. I would probably have to find some place to live, and I probably would have to find care," she said. Mike Madigan was convicted of bribery conspiracy, bribery, and wire fraud charges in February, but was acquitted of several other charges after a four-month trial accusing him of running a years-long criminal enterprise to enrich himself and his political allies. He was convicted on 10 counts and acquitted on seven others, while jurors were deadlocked on six other counts against him. The jury also was unable to reach a unanimous verdict on all six charges against his co-defendant, Michael McClain. The verdict was reached after more than 60 hours of deliberations over 11 days. Madigan and McClain faced a 23-count indictment in federal court in Chicago on charges of racketeering conspiracy, bribery, wire fraud, and attempted extortion. They were accused of conspiring with utility companies ComEd and AT&T to provide no-show jobs to Madigan's allies in exchange for the speaker's help on legislation. Prosecutors also accused Madigan of pressuring real estate developers to hire his private law firm, which specializes in property tax appeals. His sentencing is scheduled for June 13.
