Apalachee High School campus closed Monday in connection to weapon detection system
Apalachee High School's campus is closed Monday, Jan. 13, and students are scheduled to have a digital learning day.
The Barrow County School System sent out the update Saturday night. It says the closure will allow staff time to familiarize themselves with the new weapon detection system there.
The board of education voted unanimous Thursday to purchase and install the OpenGate Weapons Detection System at all of the county's three high schools.

Members called an emergency, executive session to do that after deputies say a 14-year-old Apalachee High School student managed to get a gun into the school Wednesday.
That gun crime happened four months after the deadly shooting rampage at that school.
Since then, parents have been pushing for security upgrades.
Those at Thursday's meeting applauded the decision to buy weapon detectors but criticized the board for not doing it sooner.

In an update sent to AHS families Saturday night, the school system said students who drive or ride in cars to school should arrive 15 minutes earlier than usual to get used to the system.
It says everyone should be prepared to walk through the devices upon entry and at various times throughout the day.
The remaining two high schools will get detectors in the coming days and weeks, the district says. Staff there will need training as well. The district is using a phased in approach due to training and shipment availability.

Shooting suspect in custody for deadly Paulding County road rage incident
A Cobb County man is currently behind bars after a road rage incident turned deadly in Paulding County. Collins Pruitt was later arrested and charged with voluntary manslaughter. According to the sheriff's office, deputies were called to respond to a shooting near Ridge Road and Cohran Store Road on Monday afternoon. The Paulding County Sheriff's Office said the victim of the shooting, later identified as Shawn Christopher Brannon of Piedmont, Ala., drove himself to a Paulding County fire station. Detectives found Pruitt at his home in Cobb County, where he was taken into custody without incident. Due to the circumstances of the situation, the sheriff's office said the 'shooting did not meet the legal threshold for a murder charge,' so Pruitt faces a single count of voluntary manslaughter, which is a felony. GA officer accused of illegally sharing data with suspect tied to drug investigation
An officer was arrested and charged following an investigation last month, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. [DOWNLOAD: Free WSB-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] Last month, the GBI was contacted by Soddy Daisy police in Tennessee regarding an illegal drug investigation that occurred in Hamilton County, Tenn. Investigators said they uncovered information pointing to related to illegal activity in Georgia. That's when the GBI launched a criminal investigation. GBI agents said Kenneth Rankin, 52, an officer with the Georgia Department of Community Supervision, illegally shared data with a suspect tied to a Tennessee drug investigation. According to the GDCS website, the agency is responsible for overseeing felony and juvenile offenders on probation or parole. They support parolees and probationers as they re-enter society.
