The Phantom 3500 is the latest transonic aircraft in development, offering an unconventional take on modern private air travel.

Developed by Otto Aviation in California, the Phantom 3500 is designed to cruise through the skies at altitudes of 51,000 feet while delivering a smooth, fuel-efficient ride for four to six passengers.
It swaps traditional windows for ultra-realistic high-definition screens, offering passengers panoramic virtual views in a sleek, seamless cabin.
Why no windows? According to engineers, they're a structural nightmare.
Windows add weight, weaken the fuselage, and disrupt the airflow around the aircraft, all of which reduce fuel efficiency.
By removing them, Otto has created a near-perfect aerodynamic body that glides through the air with minimal resistance.
The Phantom 3500 is all about laminar flow, a scientific term for smooth, uninterrupted airflow over the fuselage.
This is achieved with a precision-shaped carbon-fibre hull that reduces drag, burns less fuel, and extends range.
The company estimates fuel savings of up to 35 per cent compared to traditional jets, with emissions potentially slashed by 80 per cent.
Instead of feeling boxed into a metal tube, passengers will step into an 800-cubic-foot luxury cabin wrapped in digital 'windows'.
High-definition screens span both walls and the ceiling, showing real-time footage from outside the aircraft.
It's more immersive than a regular porthole – and a lot bigger too.
The jet will be powered by twin turbofan engines and features short, wide wings for greater lift and versatility.
It's expected to fly 3,200 nautical miles on a single tank and can use shorter runways than many current business jets – meaning access to smaller, regional airfields.
The Phantom 3500 isn't alone in pushing the boundaries of flight.
Across the Atlantic, Venus Aerospace is working on the Stargazer, a hypersonic aircraft that could travel at speeds of Mach 4 and beyond.
Backed by NASA, it's aiming to shrink the London-to-New York journey to just over an hour, with a commercial debut also targeted for the 2030s.
The Stargazer uses a rocket-based propulsion system and a revolutionary new nozzle design to reach speeds of up to Mach 9.
It's being billed as the first reusable hypersonic aircraft that could make two-hour global travel a reality.
Between Otto's transonic windowless jet and Venus Aerospace's hypersonic speedster, the future of flight is shaping up to be faster, cleaner, and far more stylish.
With the Phantom 3500, jet-setters may soon be swapping window seats for a high-tech view that's better than the real thing – all while flying smoother, higher, and greener than ever before.

It was left dangling precariously with its rear left wheel elevated off the ground. A group of Good Samaritans found it in the precarious spot and pulled over to help. The SUV's driver was found apparently unable to reverse the car onto the icy roadside or get out of the vehicle safely. A woman, named only as Ms Deng by local media, filmed the rescue effort as she and her friends stopped to help. They had been on a trip to a lake as they drove up the mountain - and pulled over when they spotted the dangling car. The video begins with a look at just how fraught the situation is as the passersby approach the trapped vehicle. They begin to try and heave the car back to safety as more and more motorists park nearby to lend a hand. In a heart-stopping moment, one of the rescue party removes a suitcase from the back of the car - risking shifting more weight onto the car's front tyres. A rumble of thunder can be heard as the rescue mission becomes increasingly tense. According to reports, the two unnamed people inside the vehicle were unharmed in the bone-chilling ordeal. Authorities have warned motorists to be aware of weather conditions and to maintain a safe distance when driving, News X has reported. They also urge road users to park properly on the viewing platforms. The Duku Highway sits on what was historically known as the Silk Road. It is as well known for its stunning views and landscapes as it is for its dangerous driving conditions. Back in 2021, another car rolled off a cliff edge on the same highway. While several family members were able to leap out of the car in time, but one woman inside was unable to escape in time. The Yugo 45 was a small car that was built in the former Yugoslavia and picked up the unfortunate moniker over the years. Allan, who lives just outside York, is the proud owner of a 1988 Zastava Yugo 45. The model was first available in 1981 and cost around £3,000 at the time. It's cheap price meant it undercut it main rivals like the Austin Mini Metro, Ford Fiesta and the Vauxhall Nova. It was known for its low quality construction, safety concerns and reliability issues, making it the cheapest car between 1981 and 1991. However, this affordability still did not enable the Yugo to become a successful or popular car for the long run. In the initial years it was available in the UK, Zastava sold around 3,000 models every year, going on to sell tens of thousands, largely due to the low cost. Around 794,428 Yugos in total were produced, but only a fraction of these were sold in Britain. By 2018, just 19 remained on the road, according to official registrations data. The car might not be such a rare sight on British roads for too much longer. Mike Brewer Predicts a £10,000 Future for the Audi TT The return of the vehicle comes as part of a project by Serbian university professor, Dr Alekasandar Bjelić, who hopes to bring the car back to the market for 2027. Dr Bjelić is linked to the automotive industry in Germany, and unveiled his 1:5-scale vision for what the Yugo could look like soon. This new design for the Yugo was debuted at the Car Design Event 2025 in Munich. It included stylish compact car features such as slim LED lights on the front and rear, along with large alloy wheels. A fully working prototype of the new Yugo is expected to be shown at the Belgrade Expo in 2027. On top of that, Bjelić said it would be initially sold as an "affordable" two-door model, adding that there is potential for "different body versions" to follow. Affordability of the new Yugo is hoped to be facilitated by introducing the vehicle a petrol engine, and choice of manual or automatic gearboxes. Allan told This is Money: 'It would be great if the name does return - I think it's a brilliant idea. 'Look at what Renault has done recently with the 5. Even when they've turned it electric it's been a huge success. 'The new Yugo could do the same. It looks really quirky and will be totally different to the cars on the market at the moment.' Despite the car being branded as the 'worst car in history' Allan still believes the car can be a success. He said that if the vehicle manages to keep the same characteristics of the original then drivers will appreciate it as a cheap form of motoring, but added that will depend on just how well built it is. Allan added that the car manages to attract lots of attention whenever he goes out in it, which he admitted isn't that often. He added that while you don't see them on the roads anymore, everyone still remembers them and wants to tell him about friends or family who owned one. Asked if the original Yugo warranted the dreadful reputation it had gained, he said that in the 1980s he probably would have agreed with that assessment but now that he was the owner of one he could appreciate it for what it is. He said that the car offered a no frills, basic form of transport and that people expected too much from them. Despite saying it was clunky and poorly built he said he still loved his model. The interior décor of Allan's car is caramel with him saying it looked like a Caramac bar, adding it's 'glorious but in an awful way'. BADLY MADE The Yugo was notoriously badly made with the bodykit simply riveted onto the bottom of the bumper, meaning that it flaps around if its picking up speed. Not that it can go fast. Allan said it can reach 70mph at a push but it only has a four-speed gearbox. Although he added while it's comfortable doing 60mph it's best not to go much faster and warned you wouldn't want to hit anything. UK imports of the car stopped in 1991 due to the start of the Yugoslav civil war, with dealers at the time offloading models for just £2,795, around £8,600 today. By then it had become renowned for being rudimentary, poorly engineered and ugly. Just how bad the car was, was outlined in the book "The Yugo: The Rise and Fall of the Worst Car in History' by Jason Vuic. He wrote: 'Six months after its American introduction in 1985, the Yugo had become a punch line; within a year, it was a staple of late-night comedy.' Allan, who works in the motor trade buying and selling cars, is also a keen collector, preferring motors with a bit of a difference. Among his collection is a Skoda Estelle, a couple of Metros, two Rover 75s, a Talbot Alpine, a Peugeot 106, a Vauxhall Cavalier and a Citroen BX. In total, he said he had about 25 cars to his name but the Yugo remained one of his favourites. Crypto ETNs can be bought and sold and work by tracking the performance of cryptoassets like Bitcoin and Ethereum. It means people are exposed to its changing value without needing to hold the asset themselves. Currently, just professional investors are allowed to buy and sell the investment product after the FCA granted them access last year. However, he added: "We want to rebalance our approach to risk and lifting the ban would allow people to make the choice on whether such a high-risk investment is right for them given they could lose all their money.' In April, Chancellor Rachel Reeves said she wanted the UK to be a 'world leader in digital assets' and announced plans to make crypto firms subject to regulation in the same way as traditional finance companies. How do people invest in crypto? In the UK, you cannot invest in cryptocurrency funds through stocks and shares ISAs, general investment accounts, or pensions due to regulations. If you want to invest in Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies, you'll need to use specialist trading platforms like Coin Bureau or PlanB. These platforms allow you to own crypto as a financial asset, though some accounts may not let you spend it. Crypto businesses in the UK must register with the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). Plus, there's no guarantee you can convert your cryptocurrency back to cash—it depends on market demand and supply. Charges and fees: Crypto investments often come with high fees, which can eat into your returns. These fees are often higher than those for regulated investments. Marketing hype: Some firms exaggerate potential returns or downplay the risks involved. Be cautious of flashy promotions.
