Hundreds rally for birthday surprise for Springfield boy battling cancer
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) — A 5-year-old boy battling cancer received a special surprise when hundreds of people turned out for a parade in his front yard.
For the Fulk family and their son, Larkin, this is a birthday for the books.
'It was amazing, I mean, the support for our little boy from just all over, I just can't say enough to the people who went above and beyond for him,' said Lewis Fulk, Larkin's dad.
Last year, 5-year-old Larkin was diagnosed with leukemia, and has been fighting alongside his parents and two brothers.
Due to his condition leaving him immunocompromised, his family needed to get creative for his birthday party. Soon enough, their invitation for a 'drive-thru birthday party' spread like wildfire across social media.
'The post seriously said, 'Can I get anyone to come to Kenton Ridge parking lot to drive by for Larkin?' And people started saying yes, and it snowballed tremendously,' said Julia Fulk, Larkin's mom. 'I don't think any of us are prepared for what we're about to see.'
Ahead of the parade, the community gathered at the staging area down the road. It was a surprise not only for Larkin, but for the full Fulk family, who had no clue what was about to come down the road and right into their front yard.
The parade itself lasted over an hour, with hundreds of cars, motorbikes, police cruisers, semi trucks, fire trucks and countless others. Passengers hung out of car windows with signs, blasting silly string and gifting cards and presents.
'There were more strangers there than people that we knew, so it just says a lot about our community,' said Julia Fulk.
And Larkin was happiest of all.
'Thank you everyone,' said Larkin.

Horror Comedy ‘Clown In A Cornfield' Arrives On Streaming This Week
Frendo the Clown in a scene from "Clown in a Cornfield." Clown in a Cornfield — a horror comedy from the director of Tucker & Dale vs. Evil — is coming to digital streaming this week. Directed by Eli Craig, Clown in a Cornfield opened in theaters on May 9. The summary for the movie reads, 'In Clown in a Cornfield, Quinn (Katie Douglas) and her father (Aaron Abrams) have just moved to the quiet town of Kettle Springs, hoping for a fresh start. Instead, she discovers a fractured community that has fallen on hard times after the treasured Baypen Corn Syrup Factory burned down. 'As the locals bicker amongst themselves and tensions boil over, a sinister, grinning figure emerges from the cornfields to cleanse the town of its burdens, one bloody victim at a time. Welcome to Kettle Springs. The real fun starts when Frendo the Clown comes out to play.' Clown in a Cornfield is based on Adam Cesare's book of the same name. The movie also stars Kevin Durand, Carson MacCormack, Cassandra Potenza, Verity Marks, Ayo Solanke, Vincent Muller and Will Sasso. As confirmed by a listing on Prime Video, Clown in a Cornfield arrived on digital streaming via premium video on demand on Tuesday, June 11. In addition to Prime Video, Clown in a Cornfield will be available for purchase for PVOD for $24.99 on such digital platforms as Apple TV, Fandango at Home and YouTube. Since PVOD rentals are typically $5 less than purchase prices, viewers can expect to rent Clown in a Cornfield for 48 hours for $19.99. Naturally, with the word 'clown' in the title of Clown in a Cornfield, Eli Craig knew that it would make fans think of the murderous Art the Clown from director Damien Leone's Terrifier horror hits. As such, Craig made a conscious decision to avoid the unrated horror and gore route of Leone's movies by trusting his own instincts by creating a line that he — and Frendo the Clown — should not cross. 'My gut is the line and sometimes I go to the point where I feel like I'm testing my own gut, where I can't really watch something myself,' Craig said in a Zoom conversation prior to the release of Clown in a Cornfield. "With Terrifier 3, I had to watch the film in little segments to study it and I realized, 'Oh wow, Damien Leone is a master.' I wanted to look at how he was doing in-camera special effects. [At the same time] I had to disassociate what I was seeing to process it. I had to think about the process of how he did stuff so I wouldn't puke.' However, Craig, added, he made sure to take full advantage of what an R rating allowed. 'I feel like I've hit the mark where most people are going to go, 'Ooh!' and start turning away, but then I'm done,' Craig explained. 'I have these moments that may be a little shocking, but there's just a touch of humor in it as well that makes it tolerable. 'I want to have the kills be quite real and a little bit shocking, gritty and brutal, but also have a touch of playfulness to them,' Craig added. 'They're not brutal to the point of being sickening, though. That's the line for me. I'm not interested in making a sickening movie. I want to make a fun movie that has kills in it.' Clown in a Cornfield has earned $7.2 million in domestic ticket sales and more than $532,000 internationally for a worldwide box office gross of $7.7 million to date. Craig said the production budget for the film was 'significantly less' than $10 million. The film also earned a 74% 'fresh' rating from Rotten Tomatoes critics based on 136 reviews, while audiences gave it a 59% 'rotten' score on RT's Popcornmeter based on 500-plus verified user ratings. King Charles' Cancer Is Incurable, Bombshell Report Suggests
King Charles' will die 'with' but not 'of' cancer, a bombshell report claimed Saturday. The report essentially confirms long-standing rumors that the king's cancer is considered manageable but ultimately incurable, which is the case for many older individuals afflicted by the disease. Charles is 76. The report will be unwelcome in the palace, as it will reignite speculation that the king's health is in a delicate state, rumors that were brought to fever pitch when Prince Harry said in a recent BBC interview that he didn't know how long his father had left to live. Charles' aides have consistently briefed reporters that he is, broadly speaking, winning his battle against cancer and the king himself recently said he was on 'the other side' of the health crisis. The king is back to essentially running a full diary after being diagnosed with cancer last year, albeit with some modifications. The report, by the respected royal writer and associate editor of the U.K. Daily Telegraph, Camilla Tominey, also claimed that Charles will never move into Buckingham Palace due to his health struggles. 'The talk now is that he may die 'with' cancer, but not 'of' cancer following a rigorous treatment program,' she wrote. A spokesperson for the king declined to comment. Tominey who was the first to break the news about Prince Harry and Meghan dating and also about the latter's row with Kate Middleton. The report added that planning for Charles' 80th birthday in 2028, while 'very tentative,' is going ahead. Tominey also claimed that Charles and Harry could be publicly reunited at the Invictus Games, in Birmingham in 2027, with palace aides quietly investigating whether the event could provide a suitable backdrop for a long-awaited reconciliation. It is understood officials hope any reconciliation would include Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. The king last saw the children in 2022. Harry has said he can't bring his family safely to the U.K. and hinted some powerful palace figures want him dead. Intriguingly, Tominey suggests that a reconciliation might be considered because of the negative impact the narrative of estrangement is having on the king's reputation. She writes: 'There is an awareness that the impasse cannot continue forever, not least if it starts to reflect badly on the king.' Prince Harry said, in a bitter interview with the BBC following a comprehensive legal defeat on his security arrangements, that he does not know how long his cancer-hit father has left to live because the king won't speak to him. Harry also said he won't bring his family to the U.K., blamed his father for his security being reduced after leaving the royal family, and said he had 'forgiven' those family members who had hurt him. He added: 'Some members of my family will never forgive me for writing a book but I would love reconciliation with my family.' Appearing emotional, the prince added: 'I don't know how much longer my father has. He won't speak to me because of this security stuff.' 'There is a lot of control and ability in my father's hands. Ultimately, this whole thing could be resolved through him,' Harry said. 'There's no point in continuing to fight anymore. As I said, life is precious. I don't know how much longer my father has. He won't speak to me because of this security stuff, but it would be nice to reconcile.'
