Ex-Hab Signs Two-Year Deal In Sweden
American-born Finnish right winger Jesse Ylönen, 25, has signed a two-year contract with Djurgården IF, the Stockholm-based SHL club announced on Tuesday.
'It's an honor to get the chance in such a legendary team,' said Ylönen. 'I know how much hockey means in Stockholm. I've heard that they have the best fans and the loudest arena in the league.'
'This is a really exciting player who has played a number of seasons in North America and a number of games with Montreal,' said Djurgården sports director Niklas Wikegård. 'Jesse is only 25 years old and, like the entire club, is in a phase where he wants to get better. We do not see him as a finished product, but as a player who we believe can take his game to the next level with good training and under good leadership.'
Ylönen was born in Scottsdale, Ariz. in 1999 while his father, Juha Ylönen, was a player for the Phoenix Coyotes. He was raised in the Helsinki suburb of Espoo, where he played for the local Blues club, before playing three Liiga seasons for the Lahti Pelicans, recording 57 points in 130 regular-season and playoff games.
Ylönen was chosen in the second round, 58th overall, by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. Between 2021 and 2024, he played in 111 NHL games for the Habs, recording 29 points and 14 penalty minutes, but spent the majority of the time with the AHL's Laval Rocket.
Ylönen split the 2024-25 season between the Tampa Bay Lightning and Nashville Predators organizations, but did not play any NHL games with either team.
Ylönen joins a Djurgården team that just earned a promotion from the HockeyAllsvenskan and is in the process of building a competitive SHL roster. The team will have the consensus top-two ranked European draft prospects in 18-year-olds Anton Frondell and Victor Eklund, as well as veteran center Marcus Krüger, who was a two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Chicago Blackhawks.
'Exciting times await Djurgården and I look forward to being a part of it,' said Ylönen.

Russia may 'consider' ceasefire if Ukraine stops mobilization, arms deliveries, ambassador says
Russia is prepared to consider a ceasefire in its war against Ukraine, but only if Kyiv stops receiving Western weapons and halts mobilization, Vasily Nebenzya, Russia's envoy to the United Nations, said on May 30, according to the Russian state news agency TASS. "In principle, we are ready to consider the possibility of establishing a ceasefire, which would subsequently allow for a sustainable resolution of the root causes of the conflict," Nebenzya said at a U.N. Security Council meeting. Russia, a permanent member of the U.N. Security Council, convened the meeting to accuse European nations of undermining peace efforts. The Russian ambassador said that any ceasefire would require Western governments to end their support for Ukraine's armed forces. "During the ceasefire, it is essential that Western countries stop supplying weapons to the Kyiv regime (the Ukrainian government) and that Ukraine halt its mobilization," Nebenzya said. The statement comes just days ahead of the next round of peace talks in Istanbul on June 2. Despite the stated offer, Nebenzya also pledged that Moscow would "continue and intensify military operations for as long as necessary." Ukraine swiftly rejected the demand as disingenuous. Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha called the remarks a "slap in the face to all who advocate for peace," including countries like China and Brazil, which have pressed both sides to end the war. "When the entire world insists that it is time to stop the killing immediately and engage in meaningful diplomacy, Russia uses the highest fora to spew such belligerent rhetoric," Sybiha wrote on X. "We insist that the pressure on Moscow be increased already now. They do not understand normal attitude or diplomatic language; it is time to speak to them in the language of sanctions and increased support for Ukraine." Despite growing global calls for a truce, Russia has so far rejected Ukraine's U.S.-backed proposal for a full and unconditional ceasefire. The Kremlin has instead escalated its aerial assaults across Ukrainian territory and is reportedly preparing a new summer offensive. Moscow is expected to present a draft "ceasefire memorandum" at the June 2 talks in Istanbul. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on May 29 that the proposal would be delivered by Kremlin aide Vladimir Medinsky, who led Russia's delegation at the previous round of talks. President Volodymyr Zelensky's Chief of Staff Andriy Yermak said on May 29 that Kyiv is open to the talks but insists that Russia share the memorandum ahead of the meeting. According to Reuters, Moscow's demands for ending the war include Ukraine's withdrawal from four partially occupied regions, a pledge to abandon NATO ambitions, and the lifting of key Western sanctions — conditions Kyiv and its allies have categorically rejected. Trump Plans New Immigration Office Linked to Racist Far-Right Plan
President Trump is making remigration, a racist plan popular among the European far right, a reality, according to Reuters. The State Department on Thursday announced its plans to establish an 'Office of Remigration,' assuming it is approved by Congress, on July 1. The term 'remigration' is a white supremacist concept pushed by Austrian neo-Nazi Martin Sellner that posits that all immigrants and 'non-assimilated citizens' be forcibly removed, with the goal of establishing a white ethnostate. 'The Office of Remigration will serve as the [Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration]'s hub for immigration issues and repatriation tracking,' the plan the State Department submitted to Congress reads. 'It will provide a policy platform for interagency coordination with DHS and other agencies on removals/repatriations, and for intra-agency policy work to advance the President's immigration agenda.' This isn't the first time Trump has floated remigration. 'As President I will immediately end the migrant invasion of America,' he wrote on X in September. 'We will stop all migrant flights, end all illegal entries, terminate the Kamala phone app for smuggling illegals (CBP One App), revoke deportation immunity, suspend refugee resettlement, and return Kamala's illegal migrants to their home countries (also known as remigration).' His deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller, another proponent of right-wing white supremacist policy, backed him up. 'THE TRUMP PLAN TO END THE INVASION OF SMALL TOWN AMERICA: REMIGRATION!' he wrote at the time. While remigration isn't a household term in the U.S., it's taken off in certain European political circles. The first 'Remigration Summit' took place earlier this month in Milan featuring multiple far-right leaders and chants of 'Save our nation, remigration.' 'It's outrageous,' Wendy Via, CEO and president of the Global Project Against Hate and Extremism, told Wired. 'There is no hiding from the fact that the ultimate goal of 'remigration' is purely about ethnic cleansing. It is a terrible day for our country when 'remigration' proponents are crediting the US and Trump's administration for normalizing the term.' Those on the far right, particularly Sellner himself, think that the U.S. has been well on its way toward establishing remigration for some time now. 'There are differences between Europe and the USA, but the common line is the same: preserving the cultural continuity by stopping replacement migration. Reversing the flows with border security, mass repatriations, and incentives to leave,' Sellner told Wired. Trump's immigration crackdown, his extrajudicial disappearances of students based on their beliefs, and his invocation of the 1798 Alien Enemies Act—which asserts that the country is being invaded by immigrants—are all obvious indicators of remigration already occurring here. 'Remigration is in fact already taking place in the US,' white nationalist author Cyan Quinn, who attended the Remigration Summit, told Wired. 'The first flight of 64 self-deportees following President Trump's stipend announcement have already arrived home safely in Honduras and Columbia.'
