Golf fans left stunned by insane US Open course preparations at Oakmont: 'Surely there is a more efficient way?'
Golf fans were left stunned on Monday as they got a glimpse of the tedious US Open preparations at Oakmont.
Venezuelan PGA Tour pro Jhonattan Vegas shared a video of the rough being cut, and fans couldn't believe that the job was done by a large army of employees pushing around lawn mowers by hand.
'These are the mowers they use... Is this AI?,' one replied on X.
'Am I the only one that find's this video rolling on the floor laughing my a** off funny,' a second added.
'Neighbors at 7:30am,' a third cracked.
And a fourth said: 'surely there is a more efficient way of doing this.'

Vegas himself called the rough 'unplayable,' with the mowers appearing to take little off in the video he posted.
However, that's actually intentional.
Oakmont Grounds Superintendent Mike McCormick previously explained on the The Fried Egg Golf Podcast that the course actually uses custom mowers to cut the rough higher.
The reasoning for that, he said, was to make the course more difficult and prevent the ball from laying on top of the grass when it's hit into the rough.
Oakmont, located outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is known to be notoriously difficult and that should remain the case as the world's best golfers descend upon this year's US Open.
Vegas last competed in the US Open in 2021, managing to make the cut and finishing tied for 57th.
Before that, he missed the cut in 2019.
Bryson DeChambeau will be looking to defend his US Open title from last year when the tournament begins this week.
Wyndham Clark (2023), Matt Fitzpatrick (2022) and Jon Rahm (2021) are all recent winners as well.

Texans officially sign RB Nick Chubb to one-year deal
June 9 - Nick Chubb officially has a new home as the Houston Texans announced the signing of the free agent running back on Tuesday. According to The Athletic, Chubb agreed to a one-year deal with Houston worth at least $2.5 million and up to $5 million. While Chubb, 29, could have landed a more lucrative offer from other teams, reports indicated that Chubb would rather agree to an incentive-laden contract to join Texans star Joe Mixon in the backfield. Mixon comes off his second Pro Bowl season, during which he ran for 1,016 yards and 11 touchdowns in his first season with Houston. A second-round pick in 2018, Chubb spent his first seven years in the NFL with the Cleveland Browns, including four that saw him rush for at least 1,000 yards. Capitals F T.J. Oshie, 38, retires after decorated career
June 9 - Olympic hero and longtime NHL forward T.J. Oshie announced his retirement Monday after a 16-year NHL career. Oshie, who did not play in 2024-25 due to a back injury, split his 1,010 career games between the St. Louis Blues (2008-15) and Washington Capitals (2015-24). The Blues selected him in the first round of the 2005 draft, 24th overall. He helped the Capitals win their first and only Stanley Cup in 2018, tallying eight goals (six on the power play) and 13 assists across 24 playoff games. "I would like to thank the Washington Capitals and the St. Louis Blues for giving me the opportunity to play the game I love, all of my teammates who battled with me every night, my coaches who challenged me to be better every day, and the athletic trainers and equipment staff who got me ready to play," Oshie said in a statement via the NHL Players Association. "I also want to thank the fans your energy and passion made every game memorable, and it was an honor to play in front of you." Oshie tallied 695 points in his career (302 goals, 393 assists) and managed double-digit goals in all but one of his 16 seasons. His high-water mark came in 2016-17, when he had 33 goals in 68 games for the Capitals. Oshie was voted to one All-Star Game, representing the Capitals in the 2019-20 season. Injuries limited him to 44 games in 2021-22, 58 in 2022-23 and 52 in 2023-24. A native of Washington State, Oshie is also known for his heroics during the 2014 Winter Olympics. The U.S. went to a shootout against Russia in the preliminary round. International rules allowed for players to be re-used limitlessly in the shootout, and Oshie was used six times -- including five shots in a row.
