
Jordan announces public holiday on June 26 for Islamic New Year
Prime Minister Jafar Hassan has announced that Thursday, June 26, 2025 — corresponding to the first of Muharram, 1447 Hijri — will be an official public holiday in observance of the Islamic New Year.
According to an official circular issued on Tuesday, all ministries, public institutions, government-owned companies, universities, municipalities, joint service councils, and the Greater Amman Municipality will suspend work on the day.
Exceptions will apply to institutions whose nature of work requires otherwise.
The Prime Minister also called on all public bodies to contribute to highlighting the significance of the Islamic New Year and to mark the occasion in a manner befitting its importance.
