59-0! NAIA champion LSU Shreveport is the first college baseball team on record to go unbeaten
LSU Shreveport became the first college baseball team on record to go unbeaten, finishing 59-0 when it won the NAIA championship in Lewiston, Idaho.
The Pilots' perfect season ended with a 13-7 victory over Southeastern (Florida) on Friday night and gave the 10,000-student school in northwest Louisiana its first national title in any sport.
For 25 years LSU Shreveport has been one of the top programs in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, which governs sports at 241 mostly small colleges across the country.
The Pilots have appeared in the NAIA national tournament every year since 2005 and the NAIA World Series in 2021, 2022 and 2025. They're 270-49 in six seasons under coach Brad Neffendorf, including 142-13 in Red River Athletic Conference play.
LSU Shreveport played only four games decided by one run this season, ranked second in the NAIA with 11.3 runs per game and third with a .361 batting average. The Pilots' 2.38 ERA was more than a run better than the next-closest team, and they led the nation with a .982 fielding percentage.
Josh Gibson, at .436, was one of three players on the team to bat better than .400, and Isaac Rohde struck out an NAIA-leading 146 and had a 2.09 ERA while going 16-0.
The Pilots broke the NAIA-record winning percentage of .935, set when Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) went 43-3 in 1996.
The NCAA top single-season winning percentages are .914 by Arizona State (64-6 in 1972) in Division I, .939 by Savannah State of Georgia (46-3 in 2000) in Division II and .978 by Trinity of Connecticut (45-1 in 2008) in Division III.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Drew Rasmussen extended his MLB-leading scoreless streak to 23 innings with five innings of one-hit ball and the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Texas Rangers 5-1 on Tuesday night. Rasmussen (5-4) allowed only a single to Jake Burger in the third inning and struck out eight in a game that was delayed for less that 20 minutes due to rain in the third in front of an announced crowd of 9,131 at George M. Caminero homered in the eighth, his fifth long ball in the last six games, to complete the scoring for Tampa Bay. Burger had two of Texas' four hits, including an RBI single in the seventh inning. The Rays' third baseman instinctively took off for home when Rangers catcher Kyle Higashioka released a throw to catch Jake Mangum stealing second. Because Caminero took off before Higashioka's throw passed shortstop Corey Seager, he was credited with the rare steal of home. Mariners slugger Cal Raleigh leads MLB in homers and is on pace to set a season record for catchers
SEATTLE (AP) — Just before Big Dumper put a thump into a soaring flyball, a smattering of 'MVP! MVP!' chants broke out from behind home plate Sunday. Given the way Cal Raleigh's season has started, perhaps the Mariners' catcher is wholly deserving of such high praise. With a solo shot during Seattle's latest victory, a 2-1 win over the Minnesota Twins, Raleigh upped his total to a major league-leading 23 home runs. 'He's having an excellent season, not only offensively but also defensively,' teammate Randy Arozarena said, with bench coach Manny Acta translating. 'What he's doing right now, it's great because he's carrying our offense pretty much.' That's no exaggeration on Arozarena's part. And what Raleigh is doing is also unprecedented. The 28-year-old backstop from North Carolina with the funny nickname became the first catcher in major league history to reach 20 home runs before the end of May. His 22 home runs entering June tied for the second-most in Mariners history behind only Ken Griffey Jr., who had 24 in 1997. 'He just continues to grow and mature in this game,' said Mariners manager Dan Wilson, a former catcher who was on that Seattle team in 1997. 'And the pace that he's on right now with home runs — and he's not just hitting home runs, he's still just hitting the ball hard. 'You add that to what he does behind the plate in a game like this — whew, he's a real special player and he's doing it all right now.' Short-handed Dallas plays Eastern Conference-leading Union to scoreless draw
FRISCO, Texas (AP) — Maarten Paes had two saves after defender Lalas Abubakar drew a red card in the 39th minute, helping short-handed FC Dallas earn a point in a scoreless draw with the Eastern Conference-leading Philadelphia Union on Saturday night. Dallas (4-6-6) was forced to play a man down after Abubakar was tagged with two yellow cards in an eight-minute span. Paes earned his second clean sheet in his 14th start this season and his 23rd in 106 career starts with Dallas. Andrew Rick saved the only shot he faced in his seventh start and third shutout this season. He had one clean sheet in six starts as a rookie last year. Neither keeper was tested in the first half.
