West Midlands Kabaddi matches seen by millions
The Kabaddi World Cup will go to its final stages this weekend with events including Sunday's final sold out - and an audience of millions are expected to stream the matches online.Taking place in the West Midlands, it is the first time the tournament has been held outside Asia with matches this week taking place in Coventry, Wolverhampton, Walsall and Birmingham.Prem Singh, chief executive of the British Kabaddi League, said the audience on the Indian subcontinent alone had been more than 40m, with events shown on social media and other platforms."The atmosphere has been brilliant, the spirit of sportsmanship has been amazing – unbelievable so far," he said.
The main achievement had been bringing communities together, he said."The whole spirit is about that it's different, diverse communities of the West Midlands and the UK celebrating a sporting culture," he said.England's Kabaddi team had seen Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Chinese and white players all come together with a chance to wear an England kit, Mr Singh said, adding: "That's huge."
Those young people taking part were the role models of the future, he said."For us in this country, south Asians have very little chance to represent England at an international sport, whereas here we are - the majority of players are south Asian and every time they do a good tackle they kiss the badge."Just having a south Asian and diverse community wearing an England top or a Scotland top – that's the real story and that's the success."
Mr Singh said it had been "wonderful" that authorities including Birmingham City Council, Walsall, Coventry and Wolverhampton had come together."We're so thankful for people who have been working with us, especially Wolverhampton council," he said."He added Wolverhampton's council had done "an amazing job", saying: "Everybody from the drivers, who drive the minibuses to bring the teams here, to the operational staff – we couldn't be happier with the help and guidance that we've got."

Mark Nicholas: India 'get an awful lot right' with cricket governance
A 13-strong World Cricket Connects Advisory Board has been formed ahead of this year's discussions, which take place over the weekend of June 7-8, and includes former India captain Sourav Ganguly. Themes including the state of the game, franchise cricket, women's cricket and 'is cricket cool?' will be up for discussion at Lord's, with panellists from a range of backgrounds invited to take part. It comes amid a continuing shift of the global balance of cricketing power towards India and the BCCI in recent years, boosted by the behemoth that is the IPL. Nicholas feels the nation's administration is a force for good – but echoed the views of one of India's finest cricketing brains as he weighed up their influence. 'Ravi Shastri made a good point at the start of last year's event,' he said. 'He said that that for too long, imperialism ruled and England and Australia didn't do a good enough job for the game – and now India mustn't fall into that trap. 'It was quite interesting to hear that from him as he is very pro-Indian, as you would expect him to be, he has a fantastic cricket mind, and you could see he was speaking from deep in his heart. 'In general, India get an awful lot right in the way they are looking after cricket at the moment. 'In fairness to them, India play a lot of Tests and Virat Kohli, in particular, has been a massive supporter of Test cricket. India often get either misunderstood or misrepresented.' On the field, an India side missing Kohli, who recently retired from Test cricket alongside fellow top order stalwart Rohit Sharma, are preparing for a five-match series in England this summer. It is one former Hampshire batter Nicholas is relishing – and he believes the hosts will be confident of success. 'The Indian team is in transition with a new captain, the news Jasprit Bumrah is unlikely to play all five Tests, no Mohammad Shami, Rohit Sharma retiring and Virat Kohli, one of the greatest players of all time, gone as well,' he said. 'It will be interesting. England have a real opportunity to win that series and, to be honest, I would be surprised if England don't win that series. 'But England's seam attack needs to be a bit better. The trick will be how well England bowl.'

Graham Hume's return helps reignite Waringstown's League title challenge against Instonians
The Irish international has been suffering with an elbow injury but was back to his best, dismissing Neil Rock, Cade Carmichael and Andrew White in his first two overs to leave the Shaw's Bridge side reeling on 13 for three. Shane Dadswell cleared the ropes three times in an enterprising 35, but two wickets apiece for Daniel van der Merwe, James Cameron-Dow and Greg Thompson saw Instonians bundled out for just 81. Sam (41) and Morgan Topping (19) knocked off 59 of those in an opening partnership to all but seal the win, with Sam top-scoring with 41 (4 fours, 1 six). Muckamore's replacement professional Madhav Kaushik hit the ground running with a match-winning half century at North Down to give the Moylena side their first points of the campaign. The Indian cleared the ropes four times and hit four fours in a 25-ball 54 to help Muckamore to 151 for seven – runs too for Jamie Magowan (25) and Jason van der Merwe (20) – while Ally Shields claimed four wickets. In a tense chase, Ryan Haire's 31 gave the Comber side a shout, but his dismissal with 22 needed off two overs proved decisive as Muckamore won by 17 runs. Templepatrick are still searching for their first win of the season after they crashed to a 70-run loss at CSNI. Marc Ellison hit six fours and two sixes in a top-score of 58 from 52 balls as the Stormont side made 156 for five, with 26 apiece for Sean Davey and Adam Leckey. Charlie Swart top-scored with 41 (five fours, one six), but received little support as they were bowled out for 86. Teenagers Harry Dyer (4-7), Finn Lutton (3-17), and Seb Yeates (2-5) doing the damage. Meanwhile, in the NW T20 Cup, the four group winners who will play in the Faughan Valley Cup Semi-Finals have been decided. Newbuildings captain Ross Hunter took five wickets, including a hat-trick as his side beat Bready, while Donemana finished unbeaten after a 20-run win over Killyclooney that saw the McClintock twins each hitting five sixes and Anuj Jotin taking four wickets. Andy Millar's half century ensured Eglinton progressed, while holders Brigade got the 11 runs they needed from the final over – boundaries for Josh Wilson and James Smallwoods breaking Coleraine hearts in a thrilling two-wicket win off the penultimate ball.
